A NOVEL APPROACH will help you START & FINISH your NOVEL or MEMOIR

while TEACHING YOU THE ESSENTIAL CREATIVE WRITING SKILLS.

(Both FIRST DRAFT & SECOND DRAFT options are available.)

Fiction or Memoir FIRST DRAFT

FIRST DRAFT is available in two formats:

(InClass)

A Novel Approach supplies the discipline and positive support to produce the FIRST DRAFT of a manuscript in 3000 word increments, every two weeks, for ten months. (We do not expect you to write in July and August!)

You post your writing on a secure website where only your facilitator and classmates can read and make positive comments.

You also MEET every two weeks with your classmates in a GROUP to share your new writing and develop these fundamental skills of writing a book-length project:

  • creating story,
  • developing interesting characters,
  • defining narrative arcs and emotional transformations,
  • designing scenes,
  • exploring story structure options,
  • deciding on points of view,
  • and much more…

It emphasizes the completion of the first draft of a novel or memoir and rewards you with enhanced writing and critiquing skills as the writing year progresses.

And all in the company of like-minded writers.

A Novel Approach (Fiction and Memoir) will be offered in OSHAWA and NEWMARKET starting in September, 2017.

Maximum class size: 8

(OnLine Mentorship)

A Novel Approach is also available as an OnLine Mentorship format that accentuates the completion of a First Draft. This year-long workshop provides structure, accountability and instruction so you finish the first draft of your book via email correspondence and bi-weekly Skype and telephone discussions. This option does not include lesson plans, although many aspects of the creative writing craft are addressed throughout the year during manuscript feedback and the monthly Skype sessions.

Our OnLine Mentorship has several starting dates throughout the year.

SECOND DRAFT

A NOVEL APPROACH to FICTION or MEMOIR (Second Draft) is designed to help you prepare your manuscript (and yourself) for the rigours of the publication process.

(This workshop is also ideal for authors who have already tried rewrites and are unhappy with the results, or who have received feedback from an agent or editor who has suggested new approaches or rewrites.)

A NOVEL APPROACH SECOND DRAFT IS A 3 PART PROCESS:
(Time Span: 6 to 9 months)

PART 1: Obtain a SUBSTANTIVE EDIT of your Manuscript to find out what is working well and what could be even better.
PART 2: PLAN your REWRITE and FINISH it within 6 months on a biweekly schedule with your Substantive Editor
PART 3: Learn how to NAVIGATE the PUBLISHING MARKETPLACE with CONFIDENCE in an intensive 9 week workshop.

Rewrites are handled via email with your facilitator and by regular telephone, Skype or in-person meetings. Silent writing days are offered every second Thursday (morning or evening) throughout the rewrite process.

NOTE: Registration closes on July 31st. 2017.
Manuscripts must be submitted by August 31st, 2017.
Substantive manuscript review meetings are held in August, September and October.

Some of our writers have gone on to be published, to win awards and contests, and even to obtain multiple book publishing contracts.
