The Briar Cliff Review Annual Contests
Welcome to our Annual Fiction, Poetry and Creative Nonfiction contest. First-place winners will receive $1,000 in each of the three categories and will be published in the next edition of The Briar Cliff Review. The contest runs annually from Aug. 1 to Nov. 1.

Entry fee is $20 per story/creative nonfiction piece or three poems.

Short story/creative nonfiction word limit is 5,000. These should be typed, and double-spaced on 8 1/2 x 11 paper.

Poetry should be single-spaced, with clear indications of stanza breaks, and printed on 8 1/2 x 11 paper. No more than one poem per page. Submit up to three poems.

For snail mail submissions only: Send cover sheet with title(s), author’s name, address and email (the cover letter is not needed for online submissions). Place the title, but no name on the actual manuscript.

Winning pieces are accepted on the basis of first-time rights.

Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but notify us immediately upon acceptance elsewhere.

All entrants will receive a copy of the next edition of The Briar Cliff Review.

Previous year’s winner is ineligible.

Friends, family, and students of Briar Cliff Review editors are ineligible to enter the contest. Former students or student editors must wait five years after graduating from Briar Cliff before entering.
