FN – Stonecrop Review Call for Submissions. Theme: “Flora”

Issue 5 – Flora

From weeds pushing their way up through cracks in the pavement to wildflowers planted along roadsides, from potted plants on your balcony to trees providing shade in the park, plants can shape urban landscapes. They can provide oases of calm in a bustling city; yet their roots can also wreak havoc as they crack open roads or disrupt pipelines. A fruit tree might be a delicious treat, or a messy nightmare. We can’t wait to read your stories about the plants you experience in your city! The submission period for this issue is 1 December 2021–28 February 2022.

Note: please do not send submissions outside of the submission windows, they will be deleted.

General submission guidelines

Please note: we are fine with simultaneous submissions, just let us know in your email and inform us if your piece gets published elsewhere in the mean time. We are only interested in pieces that have not previously been published elsewhere. If your piece has been significantly revised (e.g. a short blog post has been expanded into a longer essay) we may consider it, but please let us know in your email and send a link to the previous publication. If you are not successful in this submission window, we encourage you to submit again, but please submit a different piece!

Creative Non-Fiction and Fiction

We’re looking for creative pieces that include your voice, so no nonfiction (e.g. scientific papers, biographies etc).

• We welcome pieces of between 500 to 5000 words in length
• Please submit word documents in 12 pt, Time New Roman, double spaced
• Please use your name as the name of the file e.g. Leonard_Dubkin.doc
• Include a short 50 word, third-person biography and a photo of yourself with your submission
• Depending on the length of your piece we will accept up to 3 submissions per submission period, as long as the total word count does not exceed 5000 words
