Most events are installed on their deadline date, unless there is a long submission window or unless it's a rolling submission.
P=Poetry, N=Nonfiction, F=Fiction
Note: to be fully transparent, this is an unpaid anthology. 100% of the proceeds will go to Planned Parenthood.
We are seeking submissions from storytellers, both emerging and more established, for our third and final life-story anthology, Clarity: Stories About The Moment That Changed It All. The purpose of this anthology is to lift up the voices and shine a light on the talent of the incredible international community of storytellers. Sad, funny, serious and anything in between; we are looking for whatever tone speaks to you. The story must be true, and it must have happened to you directly. We want to hear your unique point of view.
What kinds of stories are we looking for in Clarity?
Tell us about how you:
Are you new to storytelling/writing? We LOVE newcomers! We are looking for promise over polish and are happy to work with writers to shape their story if it works for our anthology.
Notes: We love poetry, but this is not a poetry anthology. We are looking for prose writing only. We also love stories from people who have gone through difficult times. However, we have a hard and fast rule of stories “from a scar not a wound.” If this story is still happening, it is important, but this is not the place for it to be shared.
Submission Guidelines
Dates: All submissions must be in by Monday, September 18th, 2023, by 11:59 PM CST.
Fee: There is no fee to submit a story in response to this call; writers are simply asked to adhere to all of the requirements set out here.
Word count: Stories must be between 1200 and 1500 words.
Original stories only: The story you submit cannot have been published electronically or in print previously, including self-published stories or those published on a blog or public forum. See here for guidelines on what counts as “published.”
No multiple submissions: Please do not submit more than one story to the anthology.
Personal experience only: We only accept stories about your personal experience. We love cultural teachings and family stories that have been passed down. All forms of storytelling are beautiful. However, we are only looking for your personal experience in this anthology.
No simultaneous submissions: Please do not submit the story to any other anthology or magazine while it is being considered for publication in Escape. We will respond to all submissions to the call; if your story is not selected, you are free to submit your story elsewhere. We don’t want to own your story. We simply want to avoid a lengthy negotiation with another outlet.
How to Submit: Email your story in something approximating standard manuscript format to erodgers@pathfinderscollective.org or jkredlo@pathfinderscollective.org. In the body of the email, please provide the title of the story, the word count, and your name and contact information. Please include a personal biography of 100 words maximum.
We will respond to all submissions. If you have not heard back from us within two months after the close of submissions, or if you have any questions or concerns about the submissions call, please email erodgers@pathfinderscollective.org or jkredlo@pathfinderscollective.org.
