The 2023 CBC Short Story Prize is now open for submissions!

WHAT: You can submit original, unpublished fiction that is up to 2,500 words. There is no minimum word requirement.

WHEN: The 2023 competition is open for submissions from Sept. 1, 2022 to Oct. 31, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

WHO: All Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.

HOW: While the competition is active, submit online through Submittable. A fee of $25.00 (taxes included) for administration purposes is required for each entry.

WHAT YOU CAN WIN: The 2023 CBC Short Story Prize winner will receive $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, have their work published on CBC Books and win a two-week writing residency at Artscape Gibraltar Point. Four finalists will each receive $1,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts and have their work published on CBC Books.

Submissions are read by a panel of established writers and editors from across the country. The shortlist and winner will be decided by a jury comprised of three prominent Canadian writers.
