FN – Fourteen Hills Seeking Submissions about: Local Legends and Hometown Horror

As we are particularly interested in submissions from writers of color and writers from marginalized and underrepresented communities, submissions to our Special Feature will be free to BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and other marginalized and underrepresented writers and artists for the remainder of the submission period. 

Submissions only accepted via Submittable

Tell us your experiences with local legends/myths or create your own hometown horrors! It can be from Bigfoot to Indigenous myths to any eldritch horror, as long as its lore is tethered to the history of a town.

Fiction 

Fiction submissions can be 1 short story or novel excerpt (maximum 25 pages, though our sweet spot is 2,000-4,000 words) OR up to 3 flash fiction stories (maximum 1000 words each). 

Nonfiction

Creative nonfiction submissions should be 1 piece of long-form creative nonfiction (maximum 25 pages, though our sweet spot is 2,000-4,000 words) OR up to 3 flash/lyrical pieces (up to 1,000 words each).

Submission file(s) must be in .doc, .docx, or .rtf format (Microsoft Word, Open Office, or Pages).

Cover letter section should include contact information, a third-person author biography (3–5 sentences in length), and any other relevant information.

If your submission is accepted for publication in the journal, you will receive two free copies of the issue your work appears in and a year’s subscription.
