PF – Demos Rising Anthology: Historical and Modern Day Injustices and Breakthroughs
In order to submit, you must have bought a book (in any format) from the Fly on the Wall shop in 2022. (This will also qualify you to enter a manuscript to us in Autumn, so definitely worth doing!) Email over the book receipt with your submission.
In an era of ‘post-truth’, ‘fake news’ and misinformation, the right to protest, the right to a democratic society, feel more urgent than ever. For anthology ‘Demos Rising’, we will raise the voices of international writers and artists, across genres and oceans, to draw attention to worldwide injustices and celebrate the power of words to bring about change.
We will release the title in October 2022 and donate 5% of the profits to Amnesty International UK.
We want you to create a piece on an issue which you are passionate about, whether that be human rights or animal rights. We seek nuance, perspective and authenticity. Whilst ‘Demos Rising’ is inherently political in its aims, and this naturally lends itself to powerful and fierce interpretations and approaches, we also welcome interpretations of uprising which brim with possibility, celebration and humour.
You could write about democracy – what it means to you, what breeds without it, or you could write about a specific human rights emergency. We want the anthology to cover historical and modern day injustices and breakthroughs.
What has the power of protest brought about so far?
Newspapers are a great place to gain inspiration, as is the Amnesty International Website.
What genres are we looking for?
Poetry (up to 70 lines)
Short Stories (up to 5k words)
Flash Fiction (up to 1k words)
Submit your third person biography (up to 100 words), a short cover letter (just say why you want to submit to us and hello!) and up to three pieces in each category as listed above.
The submissions emails is flyonthewallpress@hotmail.com
We will respond to everyone by mid June.
If selected, you will receive a free copy of the anthology, discounts on further copies and the chance to perform at either a virtual or UK-based launch.
