PFN – Call for Submissions to The FruitSlice: A Queer Quarterly. Theme: “I Am in Love With You (no homo): Platonic Romance and Chosen Bonds”

January 31, 2024 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Note: Submissions are restricted to LGBTQ+ creators.

We want to delve deep into the world of connections and emotions that defy conventional boundaries. Our theme for this issue is an exploration of the multifaceted bonds we form, focusing on both platonic romance and the significance of chosen bonds.

In a world where romantic love often takes center stage, we aim to shed light on the profound, complex, and sometimes misunderstood relationships that exist outside the realm of traditional romance. We invite you to explore the intricacies of intense, non-romantic connections that can rival even the most passionate love stories. Who says romcoms are just for lovers? Why can’t we buy our friends flowers or chase them down in the airport? We believe that every friendship is its own epic tale. I know that at least for me, my romantic partners have a high bar to meet because my friends love me so well.

We are looking at the powerful ties we establish with friends who become family, mentors who guide us, and kindred spirits who feel like soulmates. These connections often transcend societal norms, creating a unique tapestry of love, support, and shared experiences.

As with all our themes, we encourage diverse interpretations.

Reflect on the friendships and chosen family members who have profoundly impacted your life. Explore the dynamics of relationships that challenge societal expectations and norms. Contemplate the moments of connection that have left a lasting imprint on your heart. Your interpretation of this theme can take many forms: essays, poetry, short stories, artwork, or any creative medium that resonates with you.

We’re excited to witness your exploration. Your contributions will help us celebrate the power of love, connection, and community in all its beautiful manifestations.
