PFN – NOR Annual Editor Prizes For Fiction, Nonfiction and Poetry

December 15, 2021 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

$21

Entry fee comes with 1-year subscription.

We accept literary submissions in any genre.  We do not reprint previously published work, book reviews, or unsolicited translations. Our submission periods are September 15th to December 15th, and January 15th to April 15th.

We recommend considering the page count of your work before submitting. Since NOR is a relatively thin volume, a prose piece of more than 20 pages will have to work hard to find a place.

Simultaneous submissions are fine, but please let us know in your cover letter and inform us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.

Please submit only once per reading period in each genre unless we request more work.

We truly appreciate your interest in our magazine and we hope you will subscribe!

FORMAT:

Poems should be individually typed, either single- or double-spaced, on one side of the page. (Please do not send more than six poems in a single submission.) Prose should be typed, double-spaced on one side. Cross-genre work or any work that is unusually formatted is welcome, but please be aware that our page width and font size are restricted. If you are submitting through our online system, we prefer Microsoft Word documents (.doc or .docx).

RESPONSE TIME:

Approximately 2 – 4 months

WITHDRAWAL:

Prose: please click “remove” on the submission manager to delete the entire document.

Poetry: please click “activity” on the submission to add a note indicating which poem you would like withdrawn from consideration.

The Editors’ Prize For Nonfiction

You may submit one essay per submission. Prose should be typed, double-spaced, and be no longer than 20 pages.

Winner receives a $1000 Prize and publication in New Ohio Review 31.

Submissions for this contest are “Concealed,” meaning that NOR staffers and the judge will not know the identity of the submitter. Please exclude your contact information from your actual submission–including name, email address, and mailing address.

Pieces that are not selected will still be considered for publication in print and online.

The NORward Prize  For Poetry

We love the work of our poetry contributors and think they can help us find the next great NOR poem. For this reason, we are happy to announce the 3rd annual “NORward Prize.”

This prize will be judged by a group of our past poetry contributors.

The winner will receive a $1,000 Prize and publication in New Ohio Review 31.

Additionally, any poem that receives a first-place vote from one of our judges is guaranteed to be published on newohioreview.org. These will be “Honorable Mentions in the NORward Prize.”

Pieces that are not selected by our judges will still be considered for publication in our print issues (and our online editions).

The contest will be judged “concealed,” meaning NOR staffers and contest judges will not know the identities of the entrants. Please exclude your contact information from your actual submission–including name, email address, and mailing address.

You may submit up to 6 single-spaced pages of poetry per submission entry.

Good luck.
