SUMMARY:PN - Call for Submissions to Friends Journal. Theme: "Farming and Food"
DESCRIPTION:We’d like to open up the issue to the spirituality of food: how do we produce it\, how do we consume it? Food is also the heart of communal human behavior: how do we share it in our Quaker and outward communities? Friends have long been involved in farming: how is that occupation faring? And how should we be involved in the sourcing of food? \nQuick Facts: \n\nFeatures run 1200-2500 words\nSubmissions close February 20\, 2023.\nQuestions? Email editors@friendsjournal.org\n\nSome ideas for articles: \n\nHow have Quaker farms adapted to changing food production? Are there any new or experimental models emerging within Quaker farming? We’re not just looking at plant agriculture but also cattle raising\, cheese-making\, and other food products that Friends produce. How are farmers adjusting to climate change?\nFood security and community initiatives in urban areas and towns. This could include work with local food banks\, community-owned food coops\, and community fridges.\nEducational centers and Quaker schools that grow their own food. Also: individuals who garden and grow their own food.\nHow do our meeting potlucks and food festivals create community\, both within our Friends meeting and with neighbors?\nHow do we ensure our food choices reflect our testimonies? Do we or should we prioritize locally grown food or food which takes up a smaller carbon footprint?\nAs humans with bodies\, what is our relation to food? How do body image concerns and eating disorders affect our lives?\nMore metaphorically\, an article could look at food for the spirit: how do we nourish ourselves with arts\, poetry\, reading\, etc

SUMMARY:PFN - Musing Publications Magazine Seeks Submissions on the Theme: "Bloom and Blossom"
DESCRIPTION:At Musing Publications we aim to uplift voices of writers and artists from all backgrounds. Our main goal is to publish works from underrepresented communities – writers/artists that are women\, people of color\, disabled and LGBTQ+ identifying. \nThe theme of our Spring issue is Bloom & Blossom! \nAbout our theme: Spring is a time for the flourish of creativity. A time to breathe new life into the Earth. A time for us to plant our seeds and begin to grow. Through each season of our lives\, we blossom; we bloom. The world may shift all around us\, tearing up our soil and roots. Yet\, through all of it\, we grow. We grow upwards – towards the sunlight that nourishes us and gives us the hope of a new Spring. The theme of Bloom & Blossom is all about the resurgence of life\, growth\, and the creativity we feel as the days start to get longer and our flowers begin to open up again. We want to hear from you what it means to Bloom & Blossom this Spring. \nWhat we’re looking for: We want your poetry\, short stories\, essays – any medium you choose to express yourself in is welcome!  For poetry submissions\, please submit up to three poems. Short stories should be 2000 words or less and essays should be 1000 words or less.
