DESCRIPTION:GUIDELINES:\n\n\nAll submissions should be double spaced in 12 point Times New Roman font\, manuscript format\, and submitted as .docx files (unless specified otherwise*). \n\n\nInclude a short bio no longer than 250 words in the third person. This could be who you are\, where you’re from\, what you like to do\, or where you’ve been published before. If you have a connection to Jacksonville\, FL\, please mention it. \n\n\nYou may submit up to four works. Simultaneous submissions are fine\, but let us know immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere. We require first publishing rights as well as the option to anthologize. \n\n\nFICTION & CREATIVE NONFICTION\n\n\nSubmissions should not exceed 3000 words and cannot be excerpts from novels or larger works. \n\n\nPOETRY\n\n\nSubmissions should not exceed six pages. \n\n\nSubmissions should be single-spaced.

SUMMARY:PFN - Thin Air Magazine's Fourth Annual Bird in Your Hands Prize
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce the fourth annual Bird in Your Hands Prize: a contest that centers and celebrates BIPOC voices. This is a no-fee contest accepting poetry\, fiction\, and nonfiction in any form under 500 words. The winner of the contest will be awarded $500\, published in Issue 30 of Thin Air Magazine\, and interviewed for Thin Air Online. The winner and runners-up will also be invited to read their work at the Northern Arizona Book Festival held in April 2024. First and second runners-up will be awarded an honorarium. The deadline for submission is 11:59pm (MST) on Sunday\, November 5\, 2023. \nFirst and second runners-up will also be awarded an honorarium. \nThis contest is open to new\, upcoming\, and established BIPOC writers alike. Simultaneous submissions are allowed\, and we carry no expectations for the content or tone of submissions. All submitted works must be previously unpublished. \nFormatting Specifications:\nPlease use Times New Roman\, 12pt.\, double-spaced\, 1 inch margins for all submissions except poetry\, which should remain single-spaced.\nPlease include page numbers and a word count at the top of your manuscript.\nPlease do not put your name in your manuscript.\nIf unique formatting is critical to the submission\, you may upload it as is (but please note that we may have to collaborate to translate your formatting onto the physical restraints of our pages).

We’ve all heard the phrase\, “that’s one for the ages\,” which suggests a strange\, extraordinary\, fantastical\, or confounding event\, situation\, or tale that astounds and leaves us amazed. \nEditors of Speckled Trout Review welcome submissions of unpublished poetry (nothing previously published in an electronic publication of any kind or in print) for its Fall 2023 (5.2) print issue. Poets can paste up to 4 poems pertaining to the theme\, followed by a 50-word writer’s biography and mailing address\, in the body of an e-mail to speckledtroutreview@hotmail.com.
