DESCRIPTION:Retirement – Lifespan Vol. 10\n\n\nSubmissions for Retirement Lifespan Vol. 10 HAVE OPENED \nSubmissions close 29th February 2024. \nFrom 2021 through to mid-2024\, Pure Slush has been conducting a 12-volume anthology series\, looking across the Lifespan. \nThis is a unique opportunity to contribute works taking characters across the arc of their whole lives\, whether prose or poetry\, fiction or non-fiction. \nOr alternately\, to create unlinked works. \nSubmit to one … or a few … or many … or all. \nYour Retirement submission must be: \n\noriginal\, so previously unpublished online or in print (so that includes authors’ websites and blogs)\n150 word minimum limit for fiction and non-fiction\, stories and essays / maximum 1000 words. (That’s for each story / essay: maximum number of prose pieces you can submit is 3.)\n80 word minimum limit for poetry / maximum 1000 words. (That’s for each poem: maximum number of poems you can submit is 5.)\nmust include something about retirement / semi-retirement / stopping employment.\n\nYou must be minimum 18 years of age to submit. \nWe prefer submissions to be made through Submittable (scroll below to click here) and much prefer Word.docx to PDFs or other alternatives. \nTo submit\, click here. Please include the word RETIREMENT\, plus your name and the title of your submission\, and the word count. (Please note: word counts do not include titles or your name.) \nPLEASE NOTE: if you are submitting more than one poem\, story or essay\, we really prefer they are all included on one document. So if you have 5 poems or 3 stories to submit\, please include them on one document\, and thus make one submission\, rather than 5 submissions (one for each poem) or 3 submissions (one for each story).

SUMMARY:PFN - Wordrunner eChapbooks Anthology Series Seeking Submissions. Theme: Displacement
DESCRIPTION:GUIDELINES FOR ANTHOLOGY SUBMISSIONS:\nWe are especially interested in historical fiction for our next issue. The theme is: DISPLACEMENT. This can be anything from physical displacement (moving\, emigrating\, exile) to estrangement or emotional or spiritual shifts. We want emotional complexity and nuanced characters in prose pieces\, as well as precise and telling language. \nFor poetry: Surprise and delight us with fresh language and boundary-breaking daring. Show us something we have never seen before\, but have always felt is true. Uncover or discover a new mode of expression\, inextricably wed to its message. \nSubmit up to three poems (no longer than a page each) or three flash fictions (500 to 1\,000 words each)\, or one short story\, novel or CNF/memoir excerpt\, or a personal essay (up to 5\,000 words). There are separate categories for each genre (poetry\, fiction\, nonfiction). \nWork should not have been previously published. No AI-generated or assisted writing\, please. \nSubmit ONE FILE (Word doc or docx\, RTF or ODT)\, which includes title (or titles\, if poems or multiple flash fictions) in the file name (but do NOT include the author’s name anywhere in the manuscript).

SUMMARY:F- Call for Submissions to Bridge House Annual Anthology. Theme: Good News...?
DESCRIPTION:Our title is Good News….? The work “gospel” really means good news. But is what we regard as good news always good news? Even the loveliness of Christmas and the birth of the special baby is tinged with sadness; the beautiful Coventry carol isn’t about the little baby Jesus but about one of the children who was going to be slaughtered because Herod thought a new king had arrived. \nMany of the Jews who survived the Holocaust fled to Israel … only to be plunged into another conflict that has flared up time and time again. And look what’s happening now. \nGreat\, World War II ended in 1945. In 1947 the Indian sub-continent was torn apart. \nOn 20 April 1889 a woman was delighted to have given birth to a baby boy she named Adolf. Her husband would be pleased. Only he grew up to be abused by a step-father and in turn did his own abusing. Big time. \nYes\, the technology for electric vehicles is improving all the time. Except that many electronic parts come from the Ukraine and most of the lithium for the batteries comes from Afghanistan. And what of the carbon footprint that making them creates? \nIt seems we can’t do right for doing wrong. \nThere may be a sense of “be careful what you wish for”. \nOr: is the good news a trace of hope in a bleak time? Perhaps those elements of our lives for which we should be grateful? \nAnother thought: good news doesn’t sell newspapers. Therefore there are a lot of good news stories that don’t get told. Can you unearth one? \nPerhaps even what looks like bad news is actually good. \n\nHow to Submit\n\n\nPlease name your file as your story antholgy  e.g.  Finding the Butterfleis Good news ….?\n\nTry to avoid having the word “Good News” in your title but if you must make sure there are other words.   \n\n\nTexts should be:\n\nBetween 1\,000 and 5\,000 words \nPreviously unpublished \nDouble-spaced (Please do not put an extra double-space between paragraphs but do indent new paragraphs – use the Word paragraph settings to set this up) \nIn a regular font – e.g. Times New Roman or Arial\, 12 point \n\nYour name should not appear anywhere on your text. \nPlease use the header and footer function in Word to create headers and footers. Include the title of your story and the anthology in the header and page numbers in the footer.\n\n\nPlease adhere to these guidelines even if they sound pernickety – it really helps us if you submit this way. Although we wouldn’t necessarily reject your story if it was fantastic and you’d done something a little out of kilter\, if you’re borderline or your story is very similar to another this could be a deciding factor.

SUMMARY:PN - Rabbit: A Journal for Nonfiction Poetry Now Accepting Submissions for Issue 39. Theme: Mutiny
DESCRIPTION:Rabbit is currently accepting poetry submissions for Issue 39: the MUTINY Issue. \nWhen you don’t trust the captains\, it’s time to take back the ship. \nFor Rabbit: MUTINY\, we seek rogue poems that resist the usual rules of resistance. We’re after nonfiction poems\, in all aesthetic registers\, that scorn the tyranny of planned obsolescence\, false idolatry\, rabid anthropocentrism\, bad governance\, and the logic of the market above all else. Send us your long-sighted\, large-hearted\, reverent/irreverent calls to arms.  Any increment of subversion or transgression\, down to and including dumb insolence\, is eagerly solicited for this issue. Now is not the time to be a civic coward. \nWe invite poets to send up to 3 poems in one document through Rabbit’s Submittable site. Please include in the cover letter of your submission: \n• full contact details (postal address\, email) \n• 50-word max. bio \n• a short (50-word max.) response to the following: “Name a poem or a work that refuses to obey orders\, that incites rebellion\, or that questions the validity of authority\, and why it gets you.”
