SUMMARY:PFN - carte blanche magazine Seeking Submissions on the Theme of "Play"
DESCRIPTION:CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: ISSUE 49 “PLAY”\nIt has been a dark and challenging few years for many of us. Hustle culture is celebrated and plowing through our work days can leave us exhausted. Sometimes we need to take a break from the seriousness of day-to-day life and binge-watch a favourite Marvel Universe show or indulge in some variation of Cards Against Humanity with our family and friends. \nThe theme for our upcoming issue 49 is ”Play.” We are interested in your narrative and poetic experiments\, odd stories\, humorous pieces\, weird fiction\, and the quirky. We ultimately leave “Play” up for your interpretation. Have fun! \nWe invite creators to submit previously unpublished pieces in the following genres: fiction\, poetry\, creative nonfiction\, translations (French to English)\, photography\, and comics for carte blanche issue 49\, “Play.” \ncarte blanche acknowledges the intersectionality of individuals’ lived experiences and aims to provide a welcoming and safe space for racialized and marginalized voices. We encourage and welcome submissions by individuals who identify as LGBTQ2S+\, BIPOC\, disabled\, and those who live with mental health challenges or neurodivergence. \nGENERAL GUIDELINES\nSimultaneous submissions: We accept simultaneous submissions. Please indicate in your cover letter if you are sending your piece elsewhere and withdraw your submission via Submittable if it is accepted somewhere else. \nUnpublished submissions: We do not accept submissions that have been previously published\, including on personal websites and social media. \nFrequency of submissions: We encourage you to submit to carte blanche no more than once a year unless solicited by an editor. \nRights: We ask for first world serial rights and the right to archive your work on the website. Copyright reverts to the author upon publication. In the case of translated pieces\, you must already have received permission from the original French publisher to translate the piece prior to submitting your translation to us. \nPayment: carte blanche pays an honorarium of $75 for each published piece. We hope to increase the amount in the future.

SUMMARY:PFN - Call for Submissions to Young Ravens Literary Review. Theme: Sound and Melody
DESCRIPTION:YRLR Issue 20 Call for Submissions\nExploring Sound & Melody \n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn Issue 20\, we are exploring the themes of sound and melody. We are inspired by Robert Frost:\n“He would declare and could himself believe\nThat the birds there in all the garden round\nFrom having heard the daylong voice of Eve\nHad added to their own an oversound\,\nHer tone of meaning but without the words.” \n—From “Never Again Would Birds’ Song Be the Same”\nIdeas we would love to see explored include: \n\nWhat is the most frightening sound you’ve ever heard?\nWhat is the most glorious sound you’ve ever heard?\nHow is nature the ultimate musician?\nDo you remember the first song that ever struck a chord in your soul?\nWhat do you suppose the last word to ever be spoken by a human will be?\nCan a body in motion be a melody\, too?\nHow can silence sometimes be the loudest sound of all?\nWhat sounds soothe your soul? From small arias like the clink of a spoon while stirring coffee\, or the roll of a marble over the ground\, to grand hymns\, like thunder?\nWhere do you go\, or what do you do\, to escape the noise of your own consciousness?\nHow do you find harmony in the chaotic clamor of humanity?\n\nWe accept fiction\, nonfiction\, and poetry of all flavors\, from free verse to found. We are also interested in submissions that include raven artwork. \n\nSubmission Guidelines:\n\nAll texts should use 12-point New Roman font and be double spaced. Poetry may be single spaced. Text file attachments may be submitted in .doc\, .docx\, or .rtf. \n\nFiction and Nonfiction: Entries should not exceed ten pages in length. Limit of 2 entries per submission. \n\n\nPoetry: Limit of 5 poems per submission. \n\nDo not submit to more than 2 categories at the same time. \nPlease include proper MLA citations for all quotations. \nPlease note that we do not accept previously published work or AI generated material\, and neither are we interested in profanity\, gratuitous violence\, or erotic material. However\, we do accept material that was published on personal blogs and personal online art portfolios.  \nSimultaneous submissions:  \nYes. Just let us know as soon as possible if your work is accepted elsewhere. \nResponse time:  \n2 months on average.  \nPayment:  \nNo. At this time we do not offer payment for submissions. We take First Electronic Publishing Rights and reserve the right to keep your work in an online archive. \nElectronic submissions:  \nYes.  \n\nSend all submissions to youngravensliteraryreview@gmail.com.\n\n\nSpecify your submission genre and name in the subject line of the email. Example: Poetry Submission – Anna Jones\n\n\nAdditional identifying information should be in the body of the email\, including a brief author bio (50-100 words) and contact information.\n\n\nPlease do not include any identifying information in your attachment or your works will not be considered for publication.
