SUMMARY:N - Call for Submissions to Orion Magazine. Theme: Mushrooms
DESCRIPTION:ESSAYS ON MUSHROOMS\nFor next summer\, we’re planning a celebration of all things mushrooms: foraging for them\, encountering them on grocery store shelves\, even swimming by them. We’re looking for pitches for nonfiction stories about important mushrooms in history. From July 15-30th\, send us your ideas for emperors poisoned by mushrooms\, brilliant mushroom heists\, or religious leaders who prayed to mushrooms.  Pitches (not full stories\, please!) should be for nonfiction (essay\, memoir\, or reporting)\, and no more than a page or so. \nPlease write to submissions@orionmagazine.org with any questions.

SUMMARY:PF - Bronze Bird Books Love Poetry Anthology Seeking: Expressions of love with a seasonal arc
DESCRIPTION:To create a cohesive and deeply heartfelt book\, we’re primarily looking for expressions of romantic or Éros love. \nAs much as possible\, this anthology will tie various expressions of love to a seasonal arc. So\, whether it’s pumpkin spice latte dates in autumn or nostalgic recollections of summer love on a Coney Island boardwalk\, we welcome a specific sense of atmosphere. In past collections\, we’ve received many submissions about grief or the loss of a partner; we’ll consider those for this project\, too\, if the poem ultimately celebrates the love that existed or persists. \nPublication Notes / FAQ: \n\nJuly 15th is the deadline for submissions.\nIf your submission is accepted for publication\, we will notify you by August 1st. If you haven’t heard from us by then\, consider it a pass. (Since email deliverability can be a complex ordeal with many variables\, we recommend that you periodically check your spam folder in case we don’t directly reach your inbox.)\nSubmitted work should not have been previously published; needless to say\, it should also be original\, true to your experience\, and not written entirely by a bot!\nWe generally prefer poetry without complicated formatting. Longer lines of poetry don’t always fit in our standard 6” x 9” trim size. If it’s a prose poem\, it’s OK. Otherwise\, anticipate that very long lines may spill over if you exceed 68 characters and consider rebalancing your line breaks.\nWe are also open to prose poetry/flash fiction if it is thematically relevant. We will consider anything up to 1\,000 words.\nAll submitted works should have titles. We include a table of contents and need to refer to your work in some way.\nContributors grant First Publication Rights to the Bronze Bird Books love anthology. All rights revert to the author after publication. We will work to promote this collection and all contributors therein\, with bios and promotional links included at the end of the manuscript. All accepted contributors will receive a digital copy of the collection; the press does not have the resources to provide complimentary print copies.\nAfter you complete the Google Form\, you should automatically receive a copy of it. That email copy may alter the appearance/formatting of your submission; however\, rest assured that we have received the text exactly as you inputted it.

SUMMARY:PFN - The Deronda Review Seeking Submissions on the Theme of Trust
DESCRIPTION:The Deronda Review is primarily a poetry magazine\, but we are also open to short fiction\, essay\, and memoir. For the magazine itself\, prose submissions should be a maximum of 500 words. However\, longer prose works may be published on our homepage. Poetry submissions should consist of up to five poems\, either in ONE Word document or in the body of the email. Only works with special graphic requirements should be sent in a .pdf. We are open to reprints and simultaneous submissions; if your submission is simultaneous\, please tell us so. We recommend that  you read an issue (see “Archives” section)\, and consider our statement on the aims and character of the magazine\, here. \nWe publish one issue annually.  Our present reading period is from May 15 to July 15\, 2024.  Send to Esther Cameron\, derondareview at g mail\, or to Mindy Aber Barad\, maber4kids at yahoo period com.  \nFor the 2024 issue\,  our main theme will be Trust.  As we wrote in our email calling for submissions: \n Our theme\nThis time is “trust\,” and what we have in mind\nIs chiefly trust among us\, fellow-humans.\nWe know\, of course\, that some cannot be trusted\,\nThat there are various forces in this world\nWhich are not friendly\, of which we must beware;\nAnd that in order to get out of bed\nEach morning\, it is helpful if we hold\nSome trust\, that in the end all will be well\nThat there’s a Power which plans all for good.\nBut to perceive where trust is possible\nAmid the thickets of our human plane\,\nTo set one’s foot upon a bridge that’s offered\nWhich may conduct us toward a distant safety –\nThat is an art perhaps too little studied. \nFor modern life has trained us to rely\nLess upon one another than on systems\nIn which we find our places\, hopefully\nBy merit and desert\, according to\nInalienable rights. We trust they work\nFor good\, that justice can be found within them\,\nAnd where such trust is not betrayed too often\,\nThe people are well governed\, and are happy.\nBut where\, through machinations of the strong\nOr working of impersonal forces guided\nBy laws not moral\, but mechanical\,\nThe systems seem to turn against the beings\nBy and for whom they were at first designed\,\nThen it is well if those who can be trusted\nCan find each other and make common cause\nTo rectify the system\, or at least\nEndure\, outlast the evils of its breakage.\nOn this we have long thought\, nor is such thinking\nOriginal with us; see\, on our homepage\,\nThe document “Intelligent Community\,”\nWhich brings some old advice to present times. \nWe hope these thoughts inspire or bring to mind\nPoems of yours.

SUMMARY:NP - Call for Submissions to Bad Day Book. Theme: Parenting
DESCRIPTION:No matter how you look at it\, some days are just bad days. Often times you are able to look back on those days and laugh about what happened. The Bad Day Book is here to help you take a step back and realize one day you may laugh about what is happening. Or\, it might even help you realize that compared to others\, maybe it isn’t really as bad of a day as you thought. \nWhat are the rules for story and poem submissions? \n\nStories should be about bad things\, but that are still funny. We are not looking to include tragic or heart breaking stories. This book is to get others to laugh\, gasp\, and cringe.\nStories MUST be personal and true events that have already happened. No AI bot stories. No creative writing. No fiction.\nWe prefer stories under 1200 words. We will consider works up to 1500 words\, but it is rare to have works picked that are over the preferred 1200.\nStories should be written with first person narration and told in past tense.\nDo not include any vulgarity\, controversial topics\, politics\, sex/drugs\, drinking\, illegal activities\, curse/crass/crude words. This is a family friendly publication.\nThough many bad days are caused by a “villain”\, whether it be a person/company\, do not name drop or tear down others. Focus the story on what happens directly to you and not the people on the other end. We will not publish works that are written to tear others down\, even if they have done shady stuff. You may refer to others as friends\, coworkers\, family member\, pen names or a vague descriptor.\nStories should include a beginning\, middle\, and an end. Begin straight in the action; no introductions to the story are necessary. Make sure you conclude your story\, but please do not end the story with any recap. It’s always best to end with a laugh.\nOnly submit a story once to each theme you would like it considered for. (Stories submitted more than once per theme will be deleted.)\nPoems must tell a story.\nWe do not pay for submissions\, only for published works.\nWe do not accept all submitted stories and poems to be published. Though not all submissions will be published in books\, some will be accepted for social media publication.\nIf your story or poem is selected to be published in one of our books or social media\, you will be asked to sign a permission release contract. The contract will allow The Bad Day Book rights to publish your story.\n\nYou maintain copyright under your name\nLicense will grant The Bad Day Book exclusive rights for 12 months\, with permission to use story in later editions as well. (Not exclusively-Written permission from author will be required for other uses)\nAfter the 12 months author may self-publish in any form (book\, blog\, etc) without making any changes to story or referencing The Bad Day Book.\nAfter 12 months author may publish with any third-party any rewritten variation of this story/life experience. No reference to The Bad Day Book required.\n\n\nPlease do not contact us to ask for an update about your story unless you need to know whether we are considering it because another publisher is interested in it too.\nIf your story or poem is not selected for any of the variations you have requested\, you will be notified if we would like to hold the submission for a different book edition or if The Bad Day Book with be passing on your story or poem.\nWe will not consider previous published stories or poems\, with one exception being previously published stories or poem from personal blog publications.\nAuthor name can be shown as first name only\, first and last name\, or a pen name if you would prefer to not use your real name\n\nIf you have already submitted a story or poem and are looking to change any story details or contact information please email mystory@thbaddaybook.com \nWe do not pay for submissions. We only pay for stories and poems that are published in books or on social media.
