SUMMARY:N - Call for Submissions to Friends Journal. Theme: Neurodiversity
DESCRIPTION:March 2025: Neurodiversity\n\n\n\n\nFast Facts \n\nFeatures run 1200-2500 words.\nQuestions? Email editors@friendsjournal.org\n\nLearn more general information at Friendsjournal.org/submissions. \nOur March 2025 issue will look at Neurodiversity. We know this is a very broad topic. Wikipedia defines it as recognizing “the diversity within sensory processing\, motor abilities\, social comfort\, cognition\, and focus as neurobiological differences.” Neurodiversity is typically likened to a spectrum and for good reason\, as everyone’s experience is unique. \nFirst and foremost\, we want to hear from neurodiverse Friends. If you’re new to Quakers\, what has drawn you in? Is there something about Quaker worship that works especially well for you? What has been your experience of Quaker process and business meeting and culture? We also want to know what doesn’t work. We realize that experiences can be very different person-to-person and meeting-to-meeting\, but are there specific adaptations that meetings could consider to better accommodate the needs of neurodiverse visitors? \nWe’re also curious about what Friends meetings and churches have already done to make themselves more accessible. This could be anything from setting clear expectations in worship to adapting First-day school programs to allow for more movement and fidgeting. What do families with neurodiverse members need from their Quaker meeting? \nFriends schools are another interesting case. There are a handful of Friends schools whose missions are to support learning differences (others have cited religious exemptions to refuse accommodations\, alas). For those who do serve neurodiverse students\, we’d like to hear how Quaker educational techniques have been adapted for that work.

SUMMARY:PFN - inScribe: Journal of Creative Writing Seeking Submissions for Issue 9 on the Theme of: Science
DESCRIPTION:Submissions for\n\n\n\n\nISSUE 09  //  THEME: SCIENCE are now OPEN \n\nSubmission Guidelines\n\n“Follow the science” – isn’t that what we’re told? Only what is science and how is it supposed to lead? Surely the human imagination runs ahead of science\, determining the questions and aims we consider important. And what of science and religion – are they really the mortal enemies we’ve been led to believe? C.S. Lewis suggested that “In Science we are only reading the notes to a poem; in Christianity we find the poem itself.” How is science poetic\, or poetry scientific? For one thing\, science without imagery remains mute: no waves\, fields\, or minds hard-wired. Poetry\, for her part\, without honest attention to the world in all its depths turns blind. Each holds Truth in highest regard\, while approaching from opposite ends. For our Feb 2025 issue of inScribe\, we are inviting new and creative explorations of the many and varied meeting points of science and imagination – so start theorising and get scribing! \nJOURNAL SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:\n \n\n\nTo be considered for publication\, your work must be submitted via our online submission form\, here: https://fs20.formsite.com/john1420/zg9d1wbpmu/index \n\n\nThe submission form will ask you to attach your work as a Microsoft Word document. No other file types will be read by our editing team. \n\n\nPlease ensure the attached file bears the same name as the title of your work and that it does not contain your name or identify you in any way. \n\n\nWe ask that you format your submission using a plain\, size 12pt font (e.g. Arial\, Calibri or Times New Roman) with 1.5 line spacing. \n\n\nIn preparing your work for submission\, take note of any advertised themes for our up-coming editions. \n\n\nBe sure to edit and proofread your work thoroughly prior to sending it to inScribe. \n\n\nYou may submit as many works as you like\, but please complete a separate submission form for each title (also bear in mind that sending multiple works does not automatically improve your chances of publication – quality over quantity is far more important). \n\n\nBe sure to observe the maximum length of 3\,500 words per story (fiction and non-fiction) and 50 lines per individual poem.
