SUMMARY:PFN - Fox Tales Contests Winter Prize Theme "Rise or Ruin"
DESCRIPTION:Black Fox is accepting submissions for our winter writing prize. The theme for this round is “Rise or Ruin.” We are open to loose interpretations of the theme in any genre\, as always. \nGood reputation or bad? Reputations can mold destinies\, define legacies\, and/or echo through history. We invite writers to investigate a reputation’s power\, potential\, and frailty. Will your hero rise or will your legends fall? Give us themes of redemption\, scandal\, honor\, or betrayal—where truth or lies can shift the direction of a life or shatter a legacy in a single moment. We’re looking for work that will uncover truths behind personas and reveal the complex layers of how we are perceived and remembered. \nPlease submit your strongest fiction\, nonfiction\, or poetry\, and we will choose one winner that we feel interprets the theme best. The prize is $325 and print publication in the Summer 2025 issue. All submissions are considered for print publication in the Summer 2025 issue. The contest entry fee is $12\, and submissions must be submitted before midnight (EST) on March 30\, 2025. \nPlease make sure your manuscript is double-spaced with 12-point font. Submissions should be no more than 5\,000 words. For poetry\, send up to three poems in the same document. For flash fiction\, send up to two stories in the same document. Author’s name and page number should appear in the top right-hand corner of every page. We also ask that you specify the category/genre of your work in the cover letter. Please see our Submission Guidelines before submitting. \nWe will select a winner by the end of June 2025\, and each entrant will receive a response. \nPlease DO NOT submit work that isn’t ready. Take your time and polish your work to the best of your ability before sending it in. No changes can be made to your submission after we receive it. \n***Writers\, please note that entry fees are non-refundable\, and payment to the winner is awarded via PayPal. We reserve the right to extend the contest deadline if necessary.*** \nThe Black Fox team looks forward to reading your wonderful submissions!

SUMMARY:PFN - Sinister Wisdom: A Multicultural Lesbian Literary & Art Journal Seeking Submissions from: SWANA Dykes
DESCRIPTION:*Submissions are restricted to lesbians.* \nThe SWANA Dykes issue of Sinister Wisdom will highlight poetry\, fiction\, creative nonfiction\, essays\, oral histories\, and genre-bending work from Southwest Asian and North African (SWANA) dyke\, lesbian\, queer\, transgender\, and gender non-conforming artists. Submissions from Black transgender and gender non-conforming artists will be prioritized. \nThe SWANA region is often referred to as “The Middle East.” This terminology is Eurocentric and homogenizes a vast region that consists of people of diverse histories\, ethnicities\, cultures\, religions\, and languages. SWANA serves as a regional signifer rather than a political or racial one. Artists from the SWANA region as well as various SWANA diasporas are welcome to submit. \nWe want work that showcases SWANA dykes in their most authentic element\, work that calls upon SWANA dykes who are ready and willing to tell their stories\, SWANA dykes who are looking for a home for their stories. \nWe’re seeking work that deconstructs social categorization – racial\, gender\, nationalist\, religious\, and sexual categorizations placed upon those deemed other by imperialism\, colonialism\, and militarization. Art that interrogates the experiences of violence against diasporic people and that decries violence perpetuated within the SWANA region – such as the U.S. Muslim Ban enacted in 2017\, the Kafala System – an abusive system against migrant domestic workers\, and the 75+ years of the occupation of Palestine. \nThis issue of Sinister Wisdom aims to create conversations surrounding the diverse experiences of SWANA dykes and recognize their stories in different mediums. We’re seeking work that explores the myriad of ways dykes relate to each other – art that celebrates sex\, sensuality\, and romantic love. Art that is lustful and intimate\, that is bitter and sardonic\, that is craving and crying at the same time. Art that thrashes against hetero- and cis-normative confines\, that seeps with rage against militarization and memorializes those lost to warfare and violence. Art that is full of love for those who fight against repression and cultivate futures for their loved ones. \nPoetry\, fiction\, creative nonfiction\, oral histories\, visual art\, and genre-bending work will be accepted through September 20th\, 2024 to March 30th\, 2025. Written pieces can be in any language; pieces written entirely in a non-English language should include an English translation. Artists are welcome to add a pseudonym under which they would like to be published if there are privacy concerns. Previous publication experience is not required. Submissions are accepted through submittable (sinisterwisdom.submittable.com) and should be submitted as one document of up to 10 pages\, along with a brief bio and any applicable social media. \nWe look forward to reading your piercing\, insightful\, critical\, hilarious work.
