The judge of the 2022 Prize is Romalyn Ante. \nRomalyn Ante’s debut collection\, ‘Antiemetic for Homesickness’ (Chatto & Windus) was an Irish Times Best Poetry Book of 2020\, an Observer Poetry Book of the Month and a Poetry School Poetry Book of the Year 2020. Romalyn also hosts a series of video interviews\, Tsaá with Roma. \nEntry costs £8 per poem\, or £4 per poem for subscribers. There are a limited number of free entries for writers on low incomes. Your name should not appear anywhere on any of the poem documents\, as all submissions will be judged anonymously. \nYou can read the full competition rules and guidelines here. \nDon’t worry if you’ve made a mistake on the form. Just let us know and we’ll sort it out!

SUMMARY:P - CBC Poetry Prize
DESCRIPTION:Poetry   (up to 600 words; in verse or prose)* \nCompetition opens: April 1\, 2022 \nDeadline: May 31\, 2022 \n*(Word count includes all words contained in the work including but not limited to titles\, footnotes\, introductions\, etc. Submissions over the specified word count will be disqualified.) \nOur word limits are strict in each category. To calculate word counts\, we put your entire submission (including the title) into Microsoft Word and use Word’s word counter. Since Word only relies on spaces to delimit words\, any term containing a hyphen (“twenty-five”) or an apostrophe (“can’t”\, “don’t”) counts as a single word. Word also counts every article (“the”\, “a”\, etc.) as a separate word. Microsoft Word also automatically counts groups of characters (e.g. “xxx”) as well as symbols (e.g. “***” or “~~~”) as a word. \nParticipants may submit as many texts as they wish in one or all categories. A writer can win only one prize per category. Each text may be submitted to only one category. \nFor each manuscript entered\, participants must complete a separate official entry form and pay the entry fee. \nParticipants must verify the exact deadlines on the cbcbooks.ca website. SUMMARY:F - Fix's Second Annual Imagine 2200 Climate Fiction Contest
DESCRIPTION:PREMISE\nFix\, Grist’s solutions lab\, invites you to submit a hope-filled climate fiction short story for our second annual contest\, Imagine 2200: Climate Fiction for Future Ancestors. \nStories must be set anytime between today and the year 2200\, and show a path to a clean\, green\, and just future. We especially want to read — and share — narratives that center solutions from the communities most impacted by climate change and stories that envision what a truly equitable\, decolonized society could look like. In 3\,000 to 5\,000 words\, show us the world you dream of building. \nOf course\, we don’t expect you to be overly optimistic or Pollyannaish; 178 years of equitable climate progress will involve hard work\, struggle\, and adaptation\, and we invite you to show that\, too. \nWe’re also especially interested in cultural authenticity (a deep sense of place\, customs\, cuisine\, and more); rich characters with intersecting identities; and stories that challenge the status quo in which wealth and power are built on extraction\, oppression\, and violence. \nWe’ll be looking for these core elements: \n\nHope\nVivid characters\nCultural setting\nCreative solutions\nDecolonized futures\n\nWe will also judge submissions based on the quality of artistic voice\, originality\, craft\, and technique\, as well as the depth of the environmental\, scientific\, historical\, and/or cultural background that informs the story. \nWhat we’re offering to winners:  \n\nCash prizes\nPublication on Fix’s site in the fall of 2022\nA reason to stay hopeful\n\nThe winning writer will be awarded $3\,000\, with the second- and third-place finalists receiving $2\,000 and $1\,000\, respectively. An additional nine finalists will get $300 apiece. All winners and finalists will have their story published in an immersive collection on Fix’s website — each with its own original art — and will be celebrated in a public virtual event. \nThe deadline for submission is May 5\, 2022\, by 11:59 p.m. U.S. Pacific Standard Time. \nPublication Date: Fall 2022 \nInspiration: Imagine 2200 draws inspiration from Afrofuturism\, as well as Indigenous\, Latinx\, Asian\, disabled\, feminist\, and queer futures. The contest is also grounded in hopepunk and solarpunk — literary genres that uplift equitable climate solutions and continued service to one’s community\, even in the face of despair. \nWe are excited to see what you write and to dive into the worlds you create! \nNuts & bolts\n\nEntry is free!\nSubmissions close May 5\, 2022\, 11:59 p.m. U.S. Pacific Standard Time.\nThe contest is open to writers anywhere in the world.\nAuthors must be 18 years or older at the time of submission.\nSubmissions must be fictional stories between 3\,000 and 5\,000 words.\nSubmissions must be in 12-point Arial font and double-spaced. If you need accessibility accommodations\, please email the team at imaginefiction@grist.org.\nStories will be judged by a board of literary experts\, including acclaimed authors and editors Grace L. Dillon\, Arkady Martine\, and Sheree Renée Thomas.\nThe first-prize story will be awarded $3\,000; second prize is $2\,000; and third prize is $1\,000. Nine additional finalists will each receive $300.\nAll 12 final stories will be published on Fix’s website\, and the authors will be celebrated in a virtual event.\nWorldwide copyright and ownership of each story remains with the author.\nIf a story is accepted for publication\, Grist retains the first serial rights of the work to publish\, produce\, reproduce\, distribute\, and market.\nAll other remaining rights revert to the author upon publication.

DESCRIPTION:Recreation.gov has launched its second annual “Share Your Story” adventure writing contest\, inviting visitors of America’s federal public lands to submit stories detailing their experiences exploring and spending time in the great outdoors. Experiences must have taken place between January 1\, 2020 and April 30\, 2022. Visitors can submit stories from now until April 30\, 2022 for a chance to win great prizes and have their story featured on Recreation.gov. The 2021 inaugural contest generated nearly 1\,200 entries. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGrand Prize Winner\, 2021 Share Your Story Contest\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“When Recreation.gov first launched the ‘Share Your Story’ contest in 2021\, we set out to discover stories from people across the nation who got outside to experience nature in a new way\, and particularly how those experiences helped them find peace\, tranquility\, or adventure during the first year of the pandemic\,” said Rick DeLappe\, Program Manager at Recreation.gov. “We were blown away by the entries\, many of which covered memorable moments with loved ones and a newfound sense of gratitude and appreciation for public lands and waters. We encourage submissions from underrepresented voices and poets from marginalized communities. \nIn the interest of transparency\, we’d like to share our selection process. All manuscripts will be read by two Airlie Press editors (either past or present) and previous Airlie Prize winners. Each reader will choose 2-3 manuscripts to advance to the second round. Our main criteria in reviewing manuscripts is the quality of the work. All current editors will then read the manuscripts that have advanced to the second round\, and each will choose their top two selections. From that group of finalists\, the prize winner is chosen by consensus among all current editors. If you have submitted to the Airlie Prize before\, we encourage you to try again\, as the judging team of Airlie Press editors varies from year to year. \nPoets previously published or contracted to be published by Airlie Press are ineligible to enter this contest\, as are members of the Airlie advisory board. In the case that an entry to the contest is made by a close connection (friend\, relative\, student\, or former student) of one of the Airlie Prize readers\, that reader will recuse themselves from the review of that manuscript in the first round. Manuscripts that advance to the final round will be read by all current editors\, regardless of connection\, and a winner will be chosen by consensus. For the purposes of this contest\, we also define “close connection” as anyone with whom a reader has direct correspondence (either written or verbal) once a month or more. As poetry is a relatively small community\, we believe a passing acquaintance with one of the readers does not necessitate a recusal. \nSubmissions are accepted via Submittable during the submission period. Entry fee: $25 ($33 if you would like to receive a copy of the winning book; $38 for those residing outside the US wishing to receive the book). \nManuscript Guidelines: \n1.      Manuscripts should be 48 to 90 pages of original poetry in English (excluding front matter and end matter). No more than one poem should appear on a page. \n2.      Please be sure manuscript pages are numbered. \n3.      Please include a table of contents. \n4.      Please use a standard\, easy-to-read font such as Times New Roman in twelve-point size. \n5.      Poems included in the submission may have appeared previously in magazines or anthologies but may not have been previously published in a book-length collection of the author’s own work. \n6.      Authors may submit more than one manuscript as long as no material is duplicated between submissions. Each submission requires a separate entry fee. \n7.      This contest is limited to single-author submissions. Translations are not eligible. \n8.      We accept simultaneous submissions\, but ask that you notify us and withdraw your manuscript from Submittable if it is accepted by another publisher. Entry fees are nonrefundable. \n9.    The contest winner will participate in the judging for the Airlie Prize in the year following their book’s publication.

SUMMARY:N - CBC Nonfiction Prize
DESCRIPTION:Nonfiction (up to 2\,000 words)* \n\nThe Nonfiction Prize includes memoir\, biography\, humour writing\, essay (including personal essay)\, travel writing\, and feature articles. While the events must be real and the facts true\, creative nonfiction conveys your message through the use of literary techniques such as characterization\, plot\, setting\, dialogue\, narrative and personal reflection. The work should be accessible to a general reading audience (i.e.\, not written for a specialized or academic audience).\n\nCompetition opens: January 1\, 2022 \nDeadline: February 28\, 2022 \n*(Word count includes all words contained in the work including but not limited to titles\, footnotes\, introductions\, etc. Please note that CBC/Radio-Canada is permitted to modify these deadlines at any time. \nOnline submission: all works must be submitted and payments must be made on or before 11:59 PM (ET) on the day of the deadline. \nWinners will be announced approximately six months after the deadline for each competition. \nHOW TO SUBMIT\nAll submissions must: \n\nBe submitted online by creating an account through Submittable. Submittable is an external site designated by CBC/Radio-Canada to manage the submissions to the competition. They adhere to CBC’s privacy policy.\nBe accompanied by the official entry form and the parental permission (electronic or print version) if applicable\nBe submitted anonymously: the name of the entrant must not appear anywhere on the text to ensure the objectivity of the jury\nBe submitted in Word or Wordpad (.doc\, .rtf or .docx) format\, in letter format (8½” by 11”)\nBe double spaced\, except for poetry texts\nBe in a legible font and font size\nBe submitted to the correct category during the entry period for that category\n\nIf you are unable to submit your content online\, please contact the CBC Literary Prizes team to obtain an alternate form of entry. \nRestrictions: \n\nAll submissions are final: no changes or substitutions are allowed\nNo handwritten manuscripts or fax texts will be accepted\nTexts will not be returned and editorial comments will not be given on the works\n\nFees: \nA fee of $25.00 (taxes included) for administration purposes is required for each entry. The competition is 100% not-for-profit\, with all fees going towards covering administrative costs\, which include payment of readers and jurors of the competition. Participants are not eligible until payment of the registration fee has been received and cashed. The entry fee will not be refunded if your submission is ineligible. All submissions are final: entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. \nJUDGING\nWorks are judged anonymously on the basis of the participant’s use of language\, originality of subject and writing style. \nOnly the work submitted will be considered by the judges\, other documents\, images\, diagrams etc. are not eligible for consideration by the judges. \nSubmissions are processed by a two-tiered system in both languages (English\, French) by readers and jurors. \nThe initial texts are screened by readers chosen for each category from a group of qualified editors and writers across the country. Each text is read by two readers. \nThe English readers come up with a preliminary list of approximately 100 texts that are then forwarded to a second group of readers who will decide upon the approximately 30 entries that comprise the longlist and be forwarded to the jury. \nThe French readers come up with a longlist of approximately 20 texts that are forwarded to the jury. \nThe English and French juries will read all stories on the longlist and decide on a shortlist of five in each language\, which will include a first-place winner and four runners-up. The members of the jury (three per category) are composed of eminent writers and editors from the Canadian literary community. \nEvery effort is made to achieve a balance of gender and diversity in the readers and judges and to reflect regional differences and trends. The readers and jurors change every year and are based in different areas of the country. \nJurors and readers in each category will be chosen by CBC/Radio-Canada\, the Canada Council for the Arts and the Banff Centre. \nAll decisions by the readers and the jury are final (subject to meeting any conditions and eligibility criteria as determined by CBC). Readers’ names are confidential until the end of the competition to ensure the judging process remains blind. \nPRIZES\nCanada Council for the Arts will offer five cash prizes in each category and in each language: \n\nGrand Prize: $6\,000\nFour finalists will receive $1\,000 each\n\nMoreover\, the Grand Prize winner will receive a two-week residency at The Banff Centre approximately valued at $2\,500 which will include: \n\naccommodation and meals at The Banff Centre for two weeks;\n24-hour access to a studio; and\nopportunities to access Banff Centre events and performances for free.\n\nWinners must use their prize within two years of the prize award\, at a time mutually agreeable to the Banff Centre and the prize winner. This prize does not include travel costs to and from the residency at Banff. \nMoreover\, CBC/Radio-Canada will provide visibility to winners and their work on one or more of its platforms. \nParticipants may win only one prize per category. Participants maintain ownership of their works\, although rights to reproduce and distribute them to the public are limited by the licenses granted according to these rules. \nThe prize is not transferable and includes only what is specifically mentioned in these rules. If for any reason whatsoever\, the winner is unable to use the prize in whole or in part or is unwilling to accept or take advantage of the prize as described\, or a portion thereof\, the prize or portion thereof will be forfeited without compensation and CBC/Radio-Canada\, the Canada Council for the Arts\, The Banff Centre and their affiliated companies or agents\, as well as their respective directors\, officers and employees\, will be released from all obligations toward the winner with regards to the prize or portion thereof. \nIf a prize cannot be awarded as described in these rules\, CBC/Radio-Canada\, The Banff Centre and the Canada Council for the Arts reserve the right to substitute one or more prizes or prize components with another of approximately equivalent value. \nTo be proclaimed winners or finalists\, participants must meet all the conditions and eligibility criteria set out in these rules.
