SUMMARY:N - Queer Adventurers LGBTQIA Writing Contest 2023. Theme: "Firsts"
DESCRIPTION:We are looking for 1\,000 to 1\,500 word personal essays on the theme of Firsts. \nSpecifically\, we’re looking to hear a true first-person story of the first time you tried an outdoor activity and how it went. \nTrying something new outdoors builds skills and breaks us out of routine. It can lead to new friendships\, confidence\, and growth. \nLike that time I got lost in a Florida swamp and had to call 911 to get rescued\, it can also go spectacularly wrong! \nStories of the good\, the bad and the never-doing-that-again kind are all welcome! \nAll submissions must connect to the chosen theme and center your LGBTQIA identity. This means more than a passing mention of a sexuality or gender identity. We want to see LGBTQIA identities woven into the stories. \nAll submissions must come from an LGBTQIA author. \nAt Queer Adventurers\, we take an expansive definition of outdoor adventures. We love hardcore stories of multi-day trips and treks. We also appreciate the gentler activities: urban nature walks\, birding\, garden tours. We believe spending time in nature is healing\, regardless of the level of activity it involves. We’re deeply excited to hear your stories of LGBTQ travel firsts. \nEligibility: \nThis LGBTQ+ writing contest accepts submissions from writers anywhere in the world aged 18+. Stories must be previously unpublished. Stories that were previously published on a blog\, Instagram\, etc. are ineligible. Stories must be in English. \nOne submission per writer is allowed\, thanks! Submissions that exceed this work count will be deemed ineligible\, as will multiple submissions from a single writer. \nPrizes\nThe winning writer will receive a $150 cash prize\, payable via PayPal or Venmo.\nOne runner-up will receive a $50 cash prize\, payable via PayPal or Venmo.\nWinning and longlisted writers will have their essays published in Queer Adventurers.

Our first and second place winners will also receive a cash prize–but here’s the fun part\, there’s no limit to how much you could win. The more entries we receive\, the larger the prize! Here’s a breakdown:\n\n1st prize: Online publication + 40% of all entry fees.\n2nd prize: Online publication + 20% of all entry fees.\nHonorable Mention: Online publication.\n\n\n\nIs your interest piqued?

SUMMARY:PFN - Fox Tales Contest Theme: "Art of Deception"
DESCRIPTION:August 2023 Fox Tales Contest: Art of Deception\n\n\nFor the month of August 2023\, Black Fox is accepting contest submissions for our Fox Tales series. The theme for August is “Art of Deception.” We are open to loose interpretations of the theme in any genre\, as always. \nOur Fox Tales contests are month-long mini contests that run between our two main contests. They allow us to publish more writers and creative work outside of our usual biannual issues! \nFox Tales will be published as “mini books” on our Instagram account and website! Instagram carousels remind us of turning book pages\, and we thought it would be fun to transform carousels into mini books! We will design carousel pages for the winning stories and poetry. Writers should keep in mind word counts. We are not opposed to longer stories and will consider them\, but be aware shorter stories tend to resonate better with us for this project. We suggest keeping submissions around 500-2\,000 words. Poets may submit 3-8 poems. If a work is too long for 8 Instagram squares\, we will break it up into several parts. \nDo you have characters who are living in a realm of deceit or spinning webs of lies? We want to read about them for our August Fox Tales Contest! We’re looking for work that challenges perceptions\, showcases characters caught in a labyrinth of lies\, and/or leaves readers stuck in a gray area. Show us truth camouflaged by falsehoods\, the blurred line between fact and fiction\, or the entanglement of half-truths and illusions. Whether you submit a short story\, poem\, or creative nonfiction piece\, we want to explore complex emotions. Will the result be redemption or ruin? \nPlease submit your strongest fiction\, nonfiction\, or poetry\, and we will choose 1-3 winners. The prize is $100 and publication as an Instagram carousel mini book and on our website as part of our Fox Tales series. Winners will also receive a Black Fox Writer Pack which contains writerly items from our sister company Writer’s Atelier and more. In each pack: \n\nOne back issue of Black Fox Literary Magazine\nA one-year digital subscription to Poets & Writers\nA copy of The Write Gym Workbook by Racquel Henry\nLittle Book of Writing Affirmations by Racquel Henry\nWriting Stickers\nA “Just F***ing Write” Pencil\nA “Get the Book Done” Tote Bag\nSticky notes\n\nThe contest entry fee is $9 and submissions must be submitted before midnight (EST) on August 31\, 2023. \nPlease make sure your manuscript is double-spaced with 12-point font. Submissions should be between 500-2\,000 words. For poetry\, send 3-8 poems in the same document. Author’s name and page number should appear in the top right-hand corner of every page. We also ask that you specify the category/genre of your work in the cover letter. Submissions are accepted through our submission manager found here. \nPlease DO NOT submit work that isn’t ready. Take your time and polish your work to the best of your ability before sending it in. No changes can be made to your submission after we receive it. \nWe will select a winner by the end of October\, and each entrant will receive a response to their submission. \n***Writers\, please note that entry fees are non-refundable\, and payment to winners is awarded via PayPal. We reserve the right to extend the contest deadline if necessary.*** \nThe Black Fox team looks forward to reading your wonderful submissions!

SUMMARY:N - The Letter Review Prize for Nonfiction
DESCRIPTION:Nonfiction’s popularity is soaring due to the ever increasing demands of voracious readers who are hungry for content which is highly relevant to their interests. There’s never been a better time to be a nonfiction author\, or a more exciting time to publish nonfiction. Letter Review connects writers with the vast number of people in search of fresh nonfiction content. \nNonfiction is a broad category: we’ve all been enchanted by the spell of a compelling piece of nonfiction in one of its many evolving forms. The Letter Review Prize welcomes all forms of nonfiction including: Memoir\, journalism\, essay (including personal essay)\, fictocriticism\, creative nonfiction\, travel\, nature\, opinion\, and many other permutations. \nAny and all works which convey information about the real world are welcome. Nonfiction may inform\, it may persuade\, explore\, or divulge. It takes the shape of both anecdote and empirical observation. The inclusion of information which the author knows to be untrue or fictional is discouraged in this genre: but subjective conclusions are certainly encouraged. \nNonfiction competitions represent a wonderful opportunity for emerging writers to demonstrate their ability and secure publication. They also offer established writers an exciting arena in which to showcase new work and build their reputations. \nLetter Review believes in the power of literature\, and in the importance and magic of new writing. \nThe top three winning entries are declared the Winners\, and share equally in the Prize pool of $1000 USD. Each Winner’s entry is published\, accompanied by its own attractive original commissioned artwork. Additionally\, there is a high likelihood the Winners will be included in the Letter Review Anthology. To recognize the extraordinary talent of the writers who do not place in the top three\, twenty entries will be longlisted\, and ten shortlisted. Offering further opportunities for writers\, all entries are considered for publication. \nTo raise the visibilty of our writers\, Winners are considered for submission to the Pushcart Prize\, other prestigious anthologies such as Best of the Net\, and our end of year anthology. \nThe Letter Review Prize is judged blind to ensure all entrants including emerging and diverse writers\, along with established writers\, have an equal chance of success. We do not assign entries to anonymous readers: Every entry is personally read by our highly qualified Judges. Winners are widely promoted on our social media channels (FB 34\,000 members) and at our website (50\,000 monthly visitors). Letter Review is a proud member of the international Community of Literary Magazines and Presses\, and we adhere to the CLMP Contest Code of Ethics. \nRead our wonderful previous winning entries by clicking here. \nRead inspiring comments from our community about the life changing impact of the Prize here.\nHow To Enter \n\nWe are seeking entries between 0 – 5000 words.\nThe Prize is open to anyone\, from anywhere in the world.\nThere are no restrictions: all nonfiction entries welcome.\nIt costs $20 USD to enter one submission\, $35 to enter two (save $5)\, and $45 to enter three (save $15).\nPlease include a short biography (suitable for publication) of less than 200 words in the Cover Letter section.\nInclude a synopsis or abstract of less than 300 words which clearly summarises the content of your submission including your conclusion (don’t leave any surprises please).\nEnsure the file name of your document is only the title of your entry. SUMMARY:PFN - Black Fox Accepting Contest Submissions for a New Series Called Fox Tales. Theme: "Music"
DESCRIPTION:Current Contest\n\n\nJuly 2023 Fox Tales Contest: Music \nBlack Fox is now accepting contest submissions for a new series called Fox Tales. The theme for July 2023 is “Music.” We are open to loose interpretations of the theme in any genre\, as always. \nWe’ve been looking for ways to have more fun with our contests\, and we’re excited to share a new series of month-long contests that will run in between our two main contests. This will allow us to publish more writers and creative work outside of our usual biannual issues! \nFox Tales will be published as “mini books” on our Instagram account and website starting Fall 2023! Instagram carousels remind us of turning book pages\, and we thought: Wouldn’t it be fun to transform carousels into mini books? We will design carousel pages for the winning stories and poetry. Writers should keep in mind word counts. We suggest keeping submissions to 500 words. Poets may submit 3-5 poems but should keep in mind that they must fit on 8 Instagram squares. \nIf you make playlists for your characters or works in progress\, this contest is for you! We’re looking for work inspired by your favorite songs or work that has music represented in some way. What mood\, feeling\, or characters can your favorite songs inspire in a story or poem? Submit a captivating piece of writing that captures the energy of a song\, its impact on your life\, or the enchanting stories that lie behind it. Whether you send in a personal reflection\, a fictional narrative\, or a poetic tribute\, we can’t wait to see how your words harmonize with the theme! In each pack: \n\nOne back issue of Black Fox Literary Magazine\nA one-year digital subscription to Poets & Writers\nA copy of The Write Gym Workbook by Racquel Henry\nLittle Book of Writing Affirmations by Racquel Henry\nWriting Stickers\nA “Just F***ing Write” Pencil\nA “Get the Book Done” Tote Bag\nSticky notes\n\nThe contest entry fee is $9 and submissions must be submitted before midnight (EST) on July 31\, 2023. \nPlease make sure your manuscript is double-spaced with 12-point font. Submissions should be no more than 500 words. For poetry\, send 3-5 poems in the same document\, as long as they can fit on 8 Instagram squares. Author’s name and page number should appear in the top right-hand corner of every page. We also ask that you specify the category/genre of your work in the cover letter. Please see our Submission Guidelines before submitting. Submissions are accepted through our submission manager found here.  We only accept online submissions. We DO NOT accept submissions by email. If submissions are sent via email they will automatically be discarded without notice. Send only one submission per submission period. We do not accept previously published work. We accept simultaneous submissions\, but we ask that you withdraw your work via Submittable (add a note if withdrawing one poem at a time) if your work is accepted elsewhere. Past contributors\, please wait until at least one full submission period has passed before submitting again.  Please note: we aim for a 3-4 month response time\, but please feel free to inquire if you haven’t heard from us in 6 months. \nPlease DO NOT submit work that isn’t ready. Take your time and polish your work to the best of your ability before sending it in. No changes can be made to your submission after we receive it. \nWe will select a winner by mid-September\, and each entrant will receive a response to their submission. \n***Writers\, please note that entry fees are non-refundable\, and payment to winners is awarded via PayPal. We reserve the right to extend the contest deadline if necessary.*** \nThe Black Fox team looks forward to reading your wonderful submissions!
