SUMMARY:P - Cordite Poetry Review Seeking Submissions on the Theme: Fit
DESCRIPTION:Are you fit? For the job? For a run? A gender? For life? Are you fit for purpose? Not fitting is maybe part and parcel of being a POET. But we still want to fit into the culture in which we live. Do we? Or be extremely unfitting. I read articles about middle aged people who want to still be able to fit into their old jeans / bathers / wedding dress. I don’t know where I fit anymore\, they seem to be saying. Let me return to an (imagined) past where things fitted me and I was fit. I saw my father fit once and was frightened. We must stay fit to fend off illness\, aging\, death. We must! Mustn’t we? \nWhat fits inside a poem? What is unfit for poetry? My questions stem from my own uncertainty. I procrastinated going for a run while I wrote this and now the weather is inclement. You might share such messiness. Equally\, you might have beautifully crafted paeons that match your resting heart rate. Odes to your Strava goals. Sonnets of hatred about the fitness industrial complex. The awkward\, terrible feelings of being a person. Forever not quite fitting. Can we provide succour for ourselves\, for others\, in whatever outfit\, unfit\, fitful ways we bring words to the page? \n  \nSubmissions\n\nSubmission to Cordite 119: FIT\, with poetry guest-edited by Emilie Collyer\, closes 11.59pm Melbourne time on 10 January 2026. \nWe celebrate 29 years of publishing in 2025. Please consider making a DGR tax-free donation. \n*Submissions for Cordite Scholarly are always accepted. \nSubmissions of poetry in translation can be sent to our Translations Editor at any time: alice [@] cordite.org.au. \nThe following conditions apply to all other poetry submissions: \n\nPlease do NOT print your name or contact details on your submission document.\nCordite only accepts unpublished work.\nCordite maintains a hybrid submissions policy. This means that the guest editor may invite five (5) Australian and five (5) overseas authors directly to submit to the issue. In addition\, the guest-editor will anonymously select an additional 30-35 works from Australian authors and use their discretion to select further overseas works. For each issue\, the guest editor does not know the identities of the online contributors (via Submittable) until after the final selections have been made.\nSimultaneous submissions? Sure. Just inform us or withdraw if the work is accepted elsewhere.\nPlease send a maximum of three (3) poems in one (1) Word or RTF document.\nWe are not able to offer feedback on individual poems.\nSubmissions will only be accepted via Submittable …\nSubmissions may need to be developed to adhere to our Guide for Indigenous Editing and Writing.\n\n\n

SUMMARY:F - On the Premises Short Story Contest #46 Theme: The return of...
DESCRIPTION:The Current Contest\nTHE RETURN OF… \nAdmit it! You saw this premise coming. \nFor this contest\, write a creative\, compelling\, well-crafted story between 1\,000 and 5\,000 words long in which someone or something has returned after a significant absence. Does this return make people happy\, unhappy\, or somewhere in-between? That’s up to you. Also: Was this return a surprise\, or was it expected? That’s also up to you. \nGENRE RULES: No fiction aimed at readers younger than 12\, no exploitative sex\, no over-the-top grossout horror. Also\, no stories that are obvious parodies of existing fictional worlds/characters created by other authors. (For the same reason\, we do not accept “fan fiction”.) Follow those rules and we’ll take anything from the most super-realistic literary drama to crazy farces (real-world or otherwise) to any variant of science fiction or fantasy you can imagine. Read our past issues and you’ll see. \nDeadline: 11:59 PM Eastern US time\, Friday\, January 2\, 2026. \nOne entry per author. There is no fee for entering this contest.\nRemember to take all author information out of your story! Tell us who you are in the space provided in the web form cover letter you get when you click on the “submit” button\, NOT in your story! No headers\, no bylines… just the story.

Submissions should be anonymized to ensure a fair review process. \nSubmission Email Requirements: \n· Subject Line: Please include your name followed by “Anthology Submission” (e.g. Jane Doe – Anthology Submission) \n· Please use author name exactly as you would like it to appear in the anthology \n· In the body of the email\, please include author name\, the title(s) of your poem(s)\, and a third-person author’s bio. \nAuthor Bio Guidelines: \n· Length: 150-200 words \n· Style: Third person \n· Include your pronouns after your name [e.g. Jane Doe (she/they)] \n· Content: Include relevant writing experience\, publications\, awards\, or other notable achievements. You may also include a brief personal detail or insight that gives readers a sense of who you are. \n· Online presence: Please end the bio with one place readers can find you online (Instagram\, Substack\, personal website\, etc.) \nStyle & Theme:  \nWe’re curating an anthology for poets who are head over heels for language itself. This collection celebrates poems that explore the endlessly recursive act of writing poetry. We love poetry that is emotionally charged\, fearless\, and speaks truth. We value powerful poetic storytelling with evocative metaphors\, vivid imagery\, and unique wordplay. We desire poetry that feels intimate\, as if the author is sharing secrets with their audience. \nTheme: Smitten with the Written: A Poet’s Guide to Poetry Made Poetic \n· Poems should engage with the craft\, joy\, or obsession of writing poetry \n· Work can be meta\, self-reflective\, or whimsical\, highlighting the relationship between poet\, poem\, and (if applicable) reader. \n· We welcome experimental forms\, wordplay\, and unconventional structures. \nTopics can include: \no The Process: drafting\, revising\, scribbling on whatever is within reach\, lines that arrive at inconvenient times\, etc. \no The Why: why we write\, what compels us\, what poetry gives or takes away \no The Who: portraits of the poet-self\, mentors\, muses\, or audiences (real or imagined) \no The Where: places poetry lives\, like classrooms\, kitchen tables\, open mics\, subway rides\, in nature\, etc. \no The Meta-Moments: poems about the blank page\, the stubborn lines\, or the thrill of a stanza falling into place \no The Struggle: when you have the undeniable urge to write\, but the words just won’t land. \no The Obsession: poems about being consumed by a single idea\, image\, or line that won’t leave you alone \no The Inspiration: The sparks that ignite your poetry \no The Risk: writing that pushes boundaries or exposes vulnerability \no The Silence: when the words aren’t there yet\, but you sit with the emptiness\, listening and waiting \no The Aftermath: the feelings after finishing a poem\, like relief\, exhilaration\, or doubt \nWhat We’re Not Looking For: \n· Work that is purely instructional or academic \n· Work that is overly didactic\, like step-by-step “how to write” instructions \n· Poems unrelated to the love of words\, reading\, writing\, or the poetic experience \n· Hateful or discriminatory content \n· Poems that are incomprehensible without context (obscure references\, inside jokes\, or experimental forms that don’t communicate meaning) \n· Extremely short\, single word poems or poetry fragments unless they carry a clear\, purposeful resonance. \nSubmission Fees & Optional Feedback: \n· Anthology submissions are free — everyone is welcome to submit without any cost \n· Optional editorial feedback: \no $5 for feedback on one poem of your choice \no $10 for feedback on all three submitted poems \n· Payment Instructions: \no Include your author name and email address in the payment notes \no In the body of your submission email\, include a short note confirming you paid for feedback \no If you are requesting feedback on only one poem\, please specify the title of that poem \n· To ensure we can provide feedback\, please follow all submission guidelines. Submissions that don’t may not be eligible for editorial feedback. \nImportant Information To Consider: \n· Trim Size: Our book size is 5.5×8.5 inches. Long lines may need to be wrapped to fit within our trim specs. \n· We aim to use white space thoughtfully: We keep your structure intact\, but spacing between lines and stanzas may be adjusted to curate a collection that feels balanced and full \n· Please use your author name consistently: Use it exactly as you’d like it to appear in the book — on your submission\, contract\, author bio\, email signatures\, and any other correspondence. Consistency helps us avoid errors and ensures your name is represented correctly in the anthology \n· Please note: minor edits for formatting\, clarity\, or consistency may be made during the production process\, but substantial changes will be discussed with you beforehand. Necessary line-wrapping and line spacing do not qualify as substantial changes. \nAccepted Poets Will Receive: \n· Publication of their poem(s) with Arcana Poetry Press \n· A complimentary copy of the anthology \n· Promotion on our website\, social media\, and other marketing channels \n· Authors retain copyright ownership of their work \nHow To Submit: \n· Use https://pay.arcanapoetrypress.com/onepoemfeedback to pay for editorial feedback on one poem \n· Use https://pay.arcanapoetrypress.com/threepoemfeedback to pay for editorial feedback on three poems \n· Include your author name\, email address and selected poem title (if applicable) in the payment notes \n· Email submissions@arcanapoetrypress.com \n· Subject Line: Your Name – Anthology Submission \n· In the body of the email\, please include author name\, the title(s) of your poem(s)\, and a third-person author’s bio. \n· Attach poems as a .doc or .docx file \nThank you for sharing your work with us! We cannot wait to read your poems and celebrate the joy of language together.

SUMMARY:PFN - Asymptote Journal Seeking Submissions on the Theme of Attention
DESCRIPTION:SUBMIT TO THE SECOND INSTALLMENT OF OUR SPECIAL FEATURE: ON ATTENTION \nIn an age of fractured focus\, how do we attend—to each other\, to the world\, to the overlooked? \nIn response to the overwhelming number of submissions we received (100 submissions in six weeks) to our original call\, we have decided to organize at least one more installment of this Special Feature. \nSimone Weil once called attention “the rarest and purest form of generosity.” Mary Oliver claimed it was our “endless and proper work.” We are seeking works of fiction\, literary nonfiction\, and poetry—written originally in English or translated into English—that engage with the politics and poetics of attention: its scarcity and its cultivation. We welcome responses that cross borders—of genre\, of geography\, of language—and expand our understanding of what it means to look closely\, to listen fully\, to dwell in the present. Submissions must be sent through Submittable.\n \nYou may submit creative work of no more than 5\,000 words by one author in total. For this Special Feature\, we will consider works originally written in English as well as works translated into English. Here\, again\, is our call: \nIn an age of fractured focus\, how do we attend—to each other\, to the world\, to the overlooked? \nSUBMISSION GUIDELINES \nAsymptote welcomes submissions of hitherto unpublished translated poetry\, fiction\, nonfiction and drama; certain types of original English-language nonfiction\, including literary and critical writing. Please note the following genre-specific and general guidelines. \nPoetry \nPlease send up to 10 pages of poetry translated into English. If the originals are included in the submission\, the length of the entire document may reach 20 pages (that is\, a maximum of 10 pages of translated work accompanied by 10 pages of original material). Please start each poem or section of a long poem on a new page unless the work absolutely demands to be read without page breaks. \nFiction\nThe submission might include one or more works of short fiction or excerpts of a longer work translated into English. Please send no more than 5\,000 words in total. \nLiterary Nonfiction \nThis includes genres such as memoir\, despatch (reportage)\, travelogue and the occasional essay. Nonfiction submissions must be work translated into English\, except for essays about translation\, which may be written in English. To get a stronger sense of what we are looking for\, go through the past articles that we have published. Send no more than 5\,000 words in total. \n  \nGENERAL GUIDELINES \nAll submissions should be sent as one Microsoft Word attachment (as a .doc file\, please) via Submittable. \nSubmissions must not have been previously published. \nSimultaneous submissions are permitted\, but we ask in return that you notify us by email as soon as you learn of an acceptance elsewhere. \n  \nSubmission Fee: $10\n

SUMMARY:PFN - Puerto del Sol Seeking Submissions on: Doublethink
DESCRIPTION:Puerto del Sol is seeking work which engages with the theme of Doublethink \nDoublethink: a paradox of the mind. Yes\, doublethink as in: Orwellian. As in: TikTok propaganda. Fact and opinion fused in contradiction. Reality v.s. Reality. The two wolves within. Self induced hypnosis\, self denial. Patriotism. The state as victim but powerful. The oppressed as weak but dangerous. The performance of a lie. The proletariat. The politique. Doublespeak. Doubling back. Words obscured and disguised.  \nSend us work that navigates this dystopia\, this manipulation; these reversals. Work that traverses the wastelands of distortion. What is at odds with your own sense of reality? With the Party? Have we fallen down a Reddit rabbit hole of indoctrination? Will we make it out the other side? Give us the feeling of contradiction. To know and not to know\, and the choices between. \nThis themed feature will appear as part of our Spring 2026 print issue. We look forward to reading your work. \nPoetry Submissions: Please send up to 5 poems in one file (.docx or .doc files are preferred). \nProse Submissions: Please submit just one story\, preferably no longer than 5\,000 words. Please include the total word count in your cover letter and indicate if your submission is fiction\, nonfiction\, or autofiction. \nAll submitted work should be previously unpublished. Simultaneous submissions are welcome\, but please add a note on Submittable right away if your work is accepted elsewhere. \nPlease do not submit more than once per year. While we do accept simultaneous submissions\, please notify us promptly should your work be accepted elsewhere. We do not consider previously published work or excerpts.

To keep things somewhat orderly\, we limit all writing submissions to one piece per person.\nWe do accept reprints.\nIf we have published your work previously\, we have no waiting period for submitting work again. We’ll gladly accept good writing whenever we receive it.

SUMMARY:PFN - Call for Submissions to Sinister Wisdom on the Theme: Butch-Femme Renaissance
DESCRIPTION:What does butch-femme mean in lesbian and queer communities today? What does it mean to live the pandemic\, the surge in anti-trans and anti-LGBTQ legislation\, and the start of a second Trump presidency through the lens of butch-femme? What are butch-femme communities doing locally\, nationally\, to shape lesbian and queer lives? What sort of butch-femme future are we building together? \nSinister Wisdom’s Butch-Femme Renaissance issue is interested in all genres and styles of writing from butch-femme identified lesbian\, dyke\, queer\, gender non-conforming and trans folks. If you live a butch-femme lifestyle or see yourself in butch-femme dynamics — or have something to say about why you don’t — we want to hear from you. \nWe are especially interested in reported work — interviews with local community groups\, Q&As\, grassroots organizing features\, essays\, sex and dating topics. Here are some ideas: \n\nInterviews and oral histories with butch-femme movers\, shakers\, organizers\, community leaders\, thinkers and lovers\nProfiles on local organizations\, grassroots movements or justice-seeking initiatives led by and for butches\, femmes\, studs\, stemmes\, trans and gender non-conforming people\nIntergenerational dialogue on butch-femme culture\nWriting on butch-femme sex\, love and dating (bonus points if you talk about OFOS dating\, stone tops\, pillow princesses or kink)\nEssays (including personal essays) on gender presentation\, identity\, and “finding your own” (Example: the butch boxing class that changed my life\, how my wife and I planned our wedding as a butch-femme couple\, getting top surgery as a butch\, t4t butch-femme dynamics\, how you organized and threw a butch-femme book club or fundraiser etc.)\nAny work that explores power and identity in critical and unexpected ways — especially work that deals with politics\, legislation\, and systems of oppression explicitly. We’re especially interested in thinking about local and federal anti-LGBTQ legislation\, anti-DEI and anti-education initiatives\, incarceration\, student protests\, reproductive rights\, healthcare\, ID access and much much more. We are particularly interested in hearing from butch-femme identified folks who live rurally and/or in red states.\nAny work that questions\, tests or maps the boundaries of butch-femme culture. Where does butch-femme thrash and upend patriarchal expectations\, heteronormative social scripts\, boredom? Or do you see butch-femme as restricting? As exclusionary along race or class lines? Sing it! The praise and the criticism. We want to hear from you.\n\n  \nWe are particularly interested in hearing from BIPOC butch-femme identified folks and from those who live rurally and/or in red states. International submissions are strongly encouraged and will be prioritized. \nDon’t go to the archives for this issue — get out on the street. Think fresh. Think on-the-ground. Think about how you’d talk to your best friend\, not your professor. This issue is not overly interested in the academic\, the formal\, the historical. So much of being lesbian\, queer\, and trans is looking back\, towards the past\, to excavate traces of yourself and your community. That is vital\, necessary work. But that’s not the work of this issue. \nPlease submit one document\, even if you are submitting multiple pieces\, up to 15 pages. Please include a brief bio and any social media links as well. \nWritten submissions can be in any language — but must include an English translation. You are welcome to use a pseudonym if you are concerned about privacy. Submissions are open to writers and artists of all experience levels\, no previous publication required. \nPlease share this call widely on social media! And direct any questions to sara.gregory91@gmail.com

SUMMARY:PFN - Call for Submissions to Prosetrics on the Theme: Aurora
DESCRIPTION:“Theme for New Year Winter Edition\, January 2026: Aurora”\nThe given theme is about: \n\n\n\nTheme: “Aurora” – The Shimmer of Becoming\nThis season\, step into Aurora: the soft\, luminous space between winter’s hush and the first light of the New Year. Where snow muffles the world\, Christmas lights glimmer warmly\, and endings dissolve into beginnings. Aurora is the pause\, the breath\, the quiet threshold where reflection meets hope.\nWe invite pieces that capture the spirit of Aurora: radiant\, reflective\, and full of gentle transformation. The shimmer of freshly fallen snow\, a candle flickering against frost\, the hush before midnight\, or the first spark of a new dawn; moments that hold light\, renewal\, and the subtle magic of transition.\nWhat fits Aurora?\nThe quiet architecture of winter — stillness\, frost\, soft snowfall\, and the serene cold that slows the world.\nThe tender echoes of warmth in dark months — not celebration\, but memory\, wonder\, and the remnants of glow.\nThe subtle shift toward the New Year — anticipation\, renewal\, and the delicate unfurling of beginnings.\nLight that pierces or comforts — candles\, stars\, lanterns\, auroras\, distant sparklers; small flames held against vast night.\nMoments of inwardness — reflection\, transition\, clarity\, the quiet work of becoming.\nSeasonal rituals and the intimacy of winter — shared gestures\, held breaths\, solitary evenings\, the weight and warmth of presence.\nThresholds and dawns — spaces between what was and what will be\, where transformation moves softly.\nNOTE: All works whether exploring joy\, melancholy\, magic\, or renewal should feel illuminated by Aurora’s essence. Whether your piece is bright or subtle\, celebratory or contemplative\, it should carry the soul of Aurora: glowing\, wintry\, hopeful\, and touched by the promise of a new dawn.\n\n\n\nYour work should be based around the given theme and its elements \n\n\nPlease Note:\n\n\n\nKindly follow all of the given guidelines for your submissions to be considered.\nThere will not be second chances\, so make sure your work is spell-checked and grammar-checked properly the first time.\nYour submissions will not be considered if they are not according to the theme\, whether it be poetry\, prose\, photography\, or art.\nIf you’ve sent the same submissions to other journals or magazines and they get accepted before our acceptance/rejection/publication\, notify us immediately.\nNo AI-generated submissions will be accepted or considered for publication.\nAvoid fanciful\, difficult-to-understand language. Make sure your written pieces are easily understandable by the reader.\nNothing sexual\, political\, religious\, or racially offensive will be entertained.\nNo simultaneous or multiple submissions will be accepted to replace or change the first submission after the first submission has been rejected or accepted.\nSubmissions with grammatical or spelling errors or that do not fall within the parameters of the given guidelines will be automatically rejected. Please make sure you check your bio and submissions for any errors before emailing them to us.\n\n\nCompilation Format for an MS-Word Document:\n\nA clear\, concise\, third-person bio in 50 words or less.\nClear titles for poems and prose. The magazine theme as a title is not acceptable.\nYour poems\, prose\, or stories that you want to send for publication.\nSocial media information for your primary Instagram\, Facebook\, or Twitter accounts\, as well as your primary poetry\, photography\, or art website No Discord\, TikTok\, Wattpad\, Pinterest\, YouTube\, Inkitt\, Emails or any other profiles will be accepted.\nCompile everything except for photos\, if any\, into one Microsoft Word with the.doc or .docx extension\n\nNOTE: No other form of submission\, such as PDFs or other file formats\, will be considered\n\nE-Mail Format for Prose\, Story\, Essay or Poetry:\n\nSubject: Submission for Aurora ‘26\nDescription: Your short introduction and your attachments to your email\nAttachments: MS Word Submission Document; pictures\, if any\, accompanying your written work\nKindly send everything in ONE email. If you forget to attach something in the main email\, mention it in the next email that you send. If you are sending all the elements of the submission in different/multiple emails deliberately\, your submission will be rejected.\nDO NOT embed any pictures within the Word document. Attach them to the email as separate attachments.\n\nNOTE:\nIf your subject is not as mentioned above\, your email will land in the wrong folder and we may not find it in time. SUMMARY:PFN - Hayden's Ferry Review Seeking Submissions on the Theme: Aftercare
DESCRIPTION:Call for Submissions: Hayden Ferry Review 2026 Spring Web Issue  \nAftercare turns its attention to what comes after intensity\, crisis\, or rupture\, those moments when care\, attention\, and repair are needed most. \nBorrowing its name from the language of kink\, the folio asks what it means to stay\, to tend\, to rebuild. We gather work that lingers in aftermath: the slow recalibration of breath\, the tenderness of rebandaging a wound\, the exhaustion and beauty of maintenance. \nWe invite submissions of poetry\, fiction\, creative nonfiction\, and hybrid forms that explore the politics of gentleness and repair\, emotional\, ecological\, or communal\, and the forms of attention that emerge once moments of intensity have passed. \nHow can slowness\, reciprocity\, and rest operate as radical acts of survival? \nWorks we are inspired by include From “The World After Rain\,” II: Twice Awake by Canisia Lubrin\, Self-Compassion by James Crews\, When Eddie Levert Comes by Deesha Philyaw\, and “Milk Blood Heat” by Dantiel W. Moniz. \nWe highly encourage submissions from BIPOC\, queer\, and disabled writers and visual artists\, as well as collaborative works. \nSubmission Guidelines: \n• Poems: Submit up to 6 pages of poems in one document. Each poem should be on a separate page. \n• Prose (fiction/nonfiction): Submit up to 10 pages\, double-spaced\, in one document. Please check whether the piece is fiction or nonfiction. \n• Translation: The original piece must be provided along with your English translation. Both the  original and its translation will be published. Please confirm you have the rights to publish the original work (we will request proof if your translation is accepted). \n• Hybrid: Submit following the guidelines for the genre it most closely resembles/is in conversation with. \nPlease include a brief bio (150 words max) with your submission and briefly explain how your piece connects to the theme of “Aftercare.” \nSimultaneous submissions are welcome\, but please notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere. \nAll submissions must be previously unpublished. We do not accept work that was produced wholly or in part by AI. \nPlease only submit to one call for submissions at a time. \n  \nSubmission fee: $3\n

SUMMARY:PF - Call for Submissions to Broadsided Press. Theme: Signs of Life: Artists and Writers Respond to AI
DESCRIPTION:Submission Guidelines\n\nSubmit a poem/flash prose of 30 lines/200 words (or less) responding to one of the four prompts below. \nWe will select four (or more) to publish as broadsides alongside the notebook pages artists have provided (you may indicate in your submission cover letter which notebook inspired your poem\, but we will determine the pairings). \nPrompt 1: “I Am Not a Robot” Begin with this title\, offered to so many of us\, so often.  How can you convince us? \nPrompt 2: “Only I can see ___” The authority of the individual is a press against the “generality” and “aggregate” of AI.  What can only you see? \nPrompt 3: HOMOPUNKT: This more technical prompt asks you to send us work using only one kind of punctuation\, and to use too much of it. (Homo = one; Punct = punctuation; K = Punk). Is it the…. \, the \\\\\ the ((((\, the ????\, or even the ‽ ‽ ‽ ‽? AI would not want you to use such crazy-excessive stuff\, use it! \nPrompt 4: What’s on your Golden Record? Send us an Epistolary poem to alien life. The Golden Record was sent into space on the NASA Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft. Launched in 1977\, it sought to connect\, in a human way\, with other life.  What would you send? \n  \nBroadsided seeks poetry and prose that is evocative\, riveting\, and not too esoteric. Broadsides are out on the streets\, and we hope that they compel all kinds of people to stop\, read\, and consider. We want them to draw in readers\, not push them away. That said\, we want smart\, difficult work. Work that challenges and speaks strongly. \n  \nSubmission Fee: $3

SUMMARY:PFN - The Muleskinner Journal Seeking Submissions on the Theme of Sabotage
DESCRIPTION:Journal Sixteen\nSabotage\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSo fun to say.\nIt thumps like a shoe dropped into the gears. It smolders like a slow fuse lit under the floorboards.\nFor Journal Sixteen\, we are looking for sabotage. Sweet or bitter. Large or small. It might be a quiet refusal\, a deliberate misstep\, a coded message\, or a love letter never sent. It might be the body rebelling against itself\, a system collapsing from within\, a character who undermines their own desires. It might be the artist’s hand trembling on purpose\, the poem that undoes its own logic\, the narrative that eats its tail. \nAs always\, we invite you to interpret this theme liberally—bend it\, twist it\, betray it. Sabotage it\, if you must. \nSend us your beautiful wreckage\, your quiet detonations\, your elaborate ruses\, and your betrayals of self. We’ll be listening for the sound of gears grinding\, the machinery silenced. \nDo your worst. It’s Sabotage! \n \nWhat we look for…\nMuleskinner Journal accepts previously unpublished work only. Please use the following guidelines for your submission. Submit in only one category. Send no more than one submission per issue. \n\n\nPoetry: Any length or form. (1-3 pieces) \n\n\nFlash or Micro Fiction: max. 1000 words each (1-3 pieces) \n\n\nShort Story/excerpts from longer (previously unpublished) work: (max. 6000 words) Please include word count on first page \n\n\nCreative Nonfiction: (max. 3000 words) Please include word count on first page \n\n\nWe look for writing of all kinds that uses skill\, wit\, and determination to deliver the goods.  We accept and publish poetry\, short fiction\, flash fiction\, micro-fiction\, short scripts\, excerpts from longer works\, memoir\, criticism\, craft essays\, artwork\, journalism\, and shopping lists. \nWe don’t care who you are\, as long as you are the author of what you submit. \nAnd\, we hate to have to say this\, but please respect yourself\, your readers\, and other writers\, and do not do that silly and shameful AI thing.

SUMMARY:P - Call for Submissions to Home on the Range. The Theme: Queer Pastoral
DESCRIPTION:Home on the Range: Poems of the Queer Pastoral \nWe’re thrilled to announce a new book\, coming in 2027 and edited by Caleb Nichols. Home on the Range: Poems of the Queer Pastoral will collect together exciting contemporary poets  writing about queerness and nature\, helping create a new canon of LGBTQ+ writers in a genre that has traditionally been off-limits to them. \nThe book will celebrate and complicate a poetics of queer nature\, from redefining the boundaries between the urban\, the rural\, and the wilderness\, to rendering the ways in which queer people make their homes in the pastoral traditions which have so often excluded them. Send us your strangest\, sexiest\, thirstiest\, poems that\, broadly speaking\, fit with or interrogate the theme of queer pastoral. Published examples of the genre include Richard Scott’s poem\, ‘Pastoral’\, from his excellent collection Soho\, Mícheál McCann’s ‘Late Blight’ from Devotion\, or Seán Hewitt’s ‘Dryad’ from Tongues of Fire\, but many other possibilities abound. We welcome poems that celebrate queerness in nature; poems that queer the idea of nature; poems that bring the natural world into urban or queer spaces or situations; poems that complicate and/or interrogate these ideas. \nThis call is open to queer writers at any stage of their careers: from widely published poets to first-time submitters and everyone in-between. You may submit 1-3 poems on the theme\, but please only submit once.\nThe book will be edited by Caleb Nichols and released via fourteen poems in early 2027. We will have an open call for all queer poets that feel moved by the themes\, whether published or new to writing. The submission window will run from September 15th until December 15th and we will be accepting a maximum of 3 poems per submission. \nSubmission guidelines \nPlease send a single Word or pdf document containing your work\, with a small additional paragraph about yourself. We judge the poems blind\, so try to keep your name off the actual poetry document if possible. Don’t worry too much about what to say in the paragraph. We just want to know a little bit about you\, how you identify\, if you’ve been published elsewhere\, and what your work is like. Please don’t include any graphics or images in the bio or in your submission. \nWe’re based in London\, but publish poets from all over the world. Submission is free and\, with our anthologies\, you retain your copyright. We know how difficult it is to get published\, so we’re happy for you to submit elsewhere simultaneously. We don’t publish work that has already been published online or in print. \nCan’t wait to read your poems!

SUMMARY:PFN - Exposition Review Seeking Submissions on the Theme: PARA/SOCIAL
DESCRIPTION:ANNUAL ISSUE SUBMISSIONS:\nEvery issue has a theme from which writers and artists can draw inspiration. We encourage those who submit to think outside the box; we look for stories that fit the theme yet make us think about it in different ways; we want work that satisfies and challenges traditional forms of storytelling. \nThe theme for our eleventh annual issue is “PARA/SOCIAL.” \nRead more about how to submit below! \nPARA/SOCIAL:  \nIssue XI begins with an infinite tension. \nPara – altered\, beside\, beyond\, against.\nSocial – the networks of intimacy\, recognition\, and belonging we carry with us. \nJoined together\, these words suggest closeness without reciprocity; connection without contact. We hear it most often in the context of celebrity\, cashiers\, counselors\, and colleagues – unreturned attachments we form out of unmet needs. \nBut what if PARA/SOCIAL is more than a warning label?  What if PARA/SOCIAL signals possibility? \nTo write into PARA/SOCIAL is to explore: \n\nThe tenderness of feeling known by someone who does not know you.\nThe estrangement of being “with” people while remaining apart.\nThe creative sparks that fly in parallel play — lives brushing close\, never fully merging.\nThe edges where community becomes illusion\, and illusion shapes community.\n\nFor this issue we invite work that traces the edges of intimacy and illusion. We seek longing projected across distance\, the distortions of connection\, and the gifts of being alongside – with or without perception and recognition. \nThis theme is not a verdict\, but an invitation: to consider how we live beside each other\, how we build connections through shadow\, screen\, and story\, and how we might reimagine the boundaries of the social altogether. \nLet PARA/SOCIAL pull you\, softly or wrenchingly\, in opposite directions. Let the word unravel and remake itself through your work. \nAuthor receives $50.00 USD for accepted work.  All submissions received by October 31 will receive guaranteed feedback from editors. \nPoetry\nWe accept submissions of up to three poems of any form and in traditional or experimental styles. Any additional poems will NOT be read. \n*Please include all poems in a single document! \nFiction\nWe accept submissions of short stories and stand-alone novel excerpts up to 5\,000 words. Pieces that exceed this limit will NOT be read. \nNote that we tend to lean toward literary fiction\, but exceptional genre fiction that fits the theme will be considered. \nFlash Fiction\nWe accept submissions of up to three pieces* of flash or microfiction. Each piece should be no more than 1\,000 words; there is no minimum word count. The shorter\, the better!\nPieces that exceed this limit will NOT be read.\nNote that we tend to lean toward literary fiction\, but exceptional genre fiction that fits the theme will be considered.\n*Please include all flash fiction in a single document! \nNonfiction\nWe accept submissions of memoir\, personal essays\, and creative nonfiction up to 5\,000 words. Pieces that exceed this limit will NOT be read. \nSubmission fee: $3.50\n

SUMMARY:PFN - Fifth Wheel Press Blog Seeking Submissions on the Theme: Multispecies/Alterhuman
DESCRIPTION:We accept submissions from individuals who belong to the queer\, trans\, and/or gender variant communities. \nsubmission guidelines: Alterhuman/Multispecies\nSome people aren’t human. Actually\, mostly people aren’t: cats\, sharks\, trees\, rocks\, and everyone in between each hold histories and vital relationships that are too often sidelined in favor of anthropocentric narratives. For this call\, I want to see stories in which the idea(l) of human individualism is narratively and poetically challenged. Stretch and break the bounds of who is typically afforded a voice; who matters; who counts as an ally in the struggle for collective liberation; and who determines what it means to be a person at all. In addition to more conventionally multispecies/nonhuman narratives\, I’m particularly interested in works by/featuring alterhuman characters and themes\, and am looking for the complex\, imaginative\, thoughtful over the polemic/educational. \nRegular fwp length guidelines apply (up to 1500 words/no more than 3 pages of poetry/hybrid pieces). \nPlease submit via Duosuma; unless we have made prior arrangements with you\, email submissions will not be considered. Please allow 2-4 weeks for your submission to be processed. Submissions that are not formatted correctly or contain any racist\, homophobic\, transphobic\, ableist\, or otherwise intolerant content will not be considered. (Work that is based on lived experiences involving these topics is ok provided it does not glorify that kind of behavior.) \nContent warnings: We reserve the right to apply content warnings for sensitive topics to your work when published. Please also include them in your cover letter when submitting. \nPlease only send submissions via Duosuma unless you have been specifically given instructions to do otherwise. If you have accessibility concerns\, please reach out and we’ll make every effort to accommodate your submission. \nFor written work\, we offer a handful of optional add-ons related to feedback and expedited response times. Due to the volume of submissions we receive\, we are unable to provide feedback on submissions unless it has been selected and paid for at the time of submission. \nWe always accept reprints if you have the rights to give them\, including work published on personal blogs\, websites\, and social media. Also\, in the case of web portfolios\, Patreon & similar services\, and social media\, we don’t require that you inform us they were previously published\, since we don’t consider that “published” ourselves. \nAnthology and blog submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis during open periods\, with average response time between 4-6 weeks. Group photozine submissions and GARLAND submissions will be reviewed at the end of the submission period\, with average response time within 4 weeks. Manuscripts will be reviewed at the end of the submission period\, with average response time within 2 months. \nSubmissions that are not formatted correctly or contain any racist\, homophobic\, transphobic\, ableist\, or otherwise bigoted content will not be considered. We don’t tolerate right-wing bullshit\, or anything resembling it. Writing or artwork that is based on lived experiences from a marginalized perspective is okay provided it does not glorify bigoted behavior. \nWe do not accept work that has been created or assisted by Artificial Intelligence (AI). \nRepeated violations of submission guidelines will result in a permanent ban from submitting. Boundaries are important. \nWe pay contributors in the form of either profit-sharing (for published editions) or contributor stipends (for anthologies\, zines\, and blog pitches). Blog features offer free submissions but are unpaid. We nominate for Best of the Net\, Best Small Fictions\, and the Pushcart Prize! \nUnless otherwise stated or invited\, please submit only once per open call. All editorial decisions are final and not up for debate.

SUMMARY:PFN - Call for Submissions to Jelly Squid Magazine on the Theme of Mending
DESCRIPTION:Our fourth standard issue – themed around the idea of Mending – is now open for submissions until DECEMBER 12th. \nMending in the traditional sense – fixing a hole in a dress\, darning a sock – is a long\, slow\, focused process. Mending is patient\, physical\, and persistent; when one is mending\, they have not yet reached the destination of healed\, but are presently participating in the act of healing.\n\nWhat does it mean to be present and active in the process of healing? When something needs to be fixed\, how do you begin to put the pieces back together? Where do you locate processes of mending and healing in your body? In your everyday routines? In your actions\, both intentional and non-intentional?\n\nFor Jelly Squid‘s fourth standard issue\, we’d like you to send us work that reflects on the idea of mending as a slow process of repair. To us\, mending feels physical\, intentional\, and patient; what does mending feel like to you? \n  \n\n\nPlease send all submissions by email to jellysquidmag@gmail.com. Prose submissions can be up to 3\,500 words. Poetry submissions can include up to three poems that equal no more than six pages in total length (please submit all poems in one document). PDFs are preferred. Visual art submissions can include up to three pieces of art. Please only send us one submission in one category per reading period. We also ask that you send us a short third-person bio along with your submission. Do not include your name anywhere in the document you are submitting.\n\nJelly Squid accepts work from writers of all backgrounds\, but we are especially interested in publishing work from writers who have been published six times or less (or not at all). This is not a requirement\, but if this is you\, please let us know! We want to give your work the time and attention it deserves. We love to see work from young writers\, but please do not submit if you are under 18. Do not submit work created using AI. Also – this should go without saying\, but we want to be clear – we at Jelly Squid do not tolerate transphobia\, racism\, homophobia\, misogyny\, ableism\, zionism\, or any bigotry of any sort. If you send us work that expresses bigoted views\, we will automatically reject it and will not consider any future work you might send our way. \n\nWe accept simultaneous submissions\, but make sure to let us know. If you have to withdraw a piece (or pieces)\, please let us know immediately via email. We do not accept previously published work (work that has been posted on personal websites or social media is ok). If you’ve had your work published by us before\, please wait to submit again until a full issue cycle has passed since the issue you were published in (for example\, if you had your work published in Issue 1\, you can submit to us again for Issue 3). \n\nWe do not currently offer payment upon publication\, but we hope this can change at some point in the future. Submissions are always free. All rights revert to authors upon publication.\n \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPOETRY:\n We accept any form of poetry\, but especially appreciate free verse and prose poetry. We like to see poems that are raw and honest – poems that surprise us\, make us shiver\, make us think.\n Please submit no more than three poems at a time. We ask that you submit your poems together in one document (please do not include any information about yourself in said document).\n Please limit your work to 6 pages or less total. Do not submit more than one packet of poems at a time.\n When submitting\, please include your name\, the title of your piece(s)\, and what type of work you are submitting (e.g. Jane Doe – Poem 1\, Poem 2\, and Poem 3 – Poetry Submission) in the subject of your email.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFICTION:\n We like flash fiction\, micros\, autofiction\, character studies\, weird fiction\, and much more… any kind of work that has something to say without trying to limit itself to the confines of traditional storytelling models. We like stories that care more about expressing something unique and noteworthy than following a linear plot or a clear narrative. We do not accept science fiction or high fantasy\, but we are happy to accept pieces with sci-fi or fantasy elements. \n For flash fiction and short stories\, please limit your submission length to 3\,500 words or less. Do not submit more than one piece at a time.\n If you’re submitting micro fiction (400 words or less)\, you may submit up to three micros so long as they do not exceed six pages in total. Please submit all micro pieces in one document.  \n We ask that you submit in the form of a pdf or docx document that does not contain your name or any other identifying information within it.\n When submitting\, please include your name\, the title of your piece\, and what type of work you are submitting (e.g. Jane Doe – My Story – Fiction Submission) in the subject of your email. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNONFICTION:\n We like creative nonfiction\, but we may accept other forms of nonfiction if they feel engaging and personal. We want to hear the stories you’re not sure how to tell – the things you lie about\, the things you hide\, the things you can’t seem to get away from. We do not accept academic writing or formal criticism.\n Please limit your submission length to 3\,500 words or less. Please do not submit more than one piece at a time. We ask that you submit in the form of a pdf or docx document that does not contain your name or any other identifying information within it.\n If you’re submitting micro nonfiction (400 words or less)\, you may submit up to three micros so long as they do not exceed six pages in total. Please submit all micro pieces in one document.  \n When submitting\, please include your name\, the title of your piece\, and what type of work you are submitting (e.g. Jane Doe – My Story – Nonfiction Submission) in the subject of your email.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHYBRID WORK:\n We love to see hybrid work – please don’t hesitate to send things our way that you’re not sure how to define. Finding pieces that blossom in the spaces between genres is one of the most exciting things to us about the work we get to read.   \n For hybrid work\, please limit your submission to six pages or less. You may submit up to three hybrid pieces as long as your work does not exceed six pages total. We ask that you submit in the form of a pdf or docx document that does not contain your name or any other identifying information within it.\n When submitting\, please include your name\, the title of your piece(s)\, and what type of work you are submitting (e.g. Jane Doe – My Story – Hybrid Submission) in the subject of your email.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe’re looking forward to seeing your work!

SUMMARY:PFN - The Oakland Review Seeking Submissions on the Theme: Gibbous
DESCRIPTION:Having recently published our half-century issue\, the Oakland Review is growing\, working\, waxing. Taken on its own\, “gibbous” represents a concept still in the works\, under construction\, nearly-there. Perhaps this is what it means to live in a gibbous phase of the decade: something swollen\, marked by tension and possibility.

Send us short stories about the armored fairies of the Orkney Islands\, an urban fantasy about a lawyer who specializes in negotiating with fairies\, a retelling of a classic fairy tale (with Fairy Godparent)\, or a story about a father trying to cure his child of elfshot. Send us essays about the impact of Lucy Allen Paton’s research on later scholars\, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Theosophical view of fairies\, fairies as fallen angels\, or the collection and composition of the Childe Ballads. \nSubmission Guidelines \nWe’re looking for hymns to Odin and Inanna and Sekhmet and Pele. Prayers to Hermes and Brigid and Asherah and Amaterasu-omikami. Short stories featuring (or otherwise referencing) Lugh and Yinepu and Hekate. Every poetic form\, from sonnet to rhyming couplet to free form\, is acceptable. There is no set length. \nAny genre of short story is welcome\, from mystery to fantasy to true lifeish to reimaginings of classic myths\, provided the Deities and heroes are treated respectfully (no bashing someone else’s Gods\, please!). Please limit your story to 3000 words or less (though a smidge over is fine). \nWe are also interested in reviews of: classic works of literature (such as new translations of The Eddas or The Iliad); books about the ancient world; books by modern Pagan authors about contemporary Paganism/s; academic journals and popular magazines that deal with Pagan themes or issues of interest to Pagans\, such as The Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion\, Biblical Archaeology Review and witches&pagans; and comic books and graphic novels. \nWe are also interested in essays that address the nature of the Deities\, the mythologies of the various pantheons\, folklore\, ritual\, et cetera and et cetera. So\, for example\, we would be keen to read your essay on Hermanubis and how He relates to Hermes and Anubis. Or\, your essay examining primary sources for The Cailleach. Or\, a discussion of the evolution of Veles from (benevolent) God of the Underworld to (Christian) demon and how Polish and Slavic Pagans are resurrecting His worship. \nSimultaneous submissions are fine\, but please let us know as soon as possible if your work is accepted elsewhere. \nThe Big No-Nos. We absolutely WILL NOT accept submissions of writing or artwork created with AI software (e.g.\, Midjourney\, ChatGPT). No generative AI. Any work must be wholly the creation of a human being. The use of assistive AI\, such as spellcheck\, is fine. In other words\, use the tools to create something yourself\, don’t let the tools do the creating for you. \nAbsolutely no ancient aliens. Pieces featuring Atlantis\, Mu\, UFOs\, aliens\, or subterranean civilizations\, as well as levels of gore\, violence\, and sexual content will be judged on a submission by submission basis. No plagiarism. We trust you to be honest. If we discover that a submission has been plagiarized it will be rejected; if the discovery is made after publication\, the submission will be removed and payment must be refunded to EHS. And be prepared to be stomped by the Fates for your poor character. \nAI Training Prohibition: The creators of the individual poems\, short stories\, essays\, and other works that appear in Eternal Haunted Summer retain control of their work. The creators retain all rights to their work; the appearance of that work in Eternal Haunted Summer is agreed upon by both parties\, and compensated as agreed. Any use of this publication and the works it contains to develop and “train” AI in any way\, for any reason\, is prohibited without the express permission of the creator/s. \nSubmission Address: lyradora@yahoo.com \nPlease be sure to note in the subject line if your submission is fiction\, poetry\, essay\, or review. Please only submit during the open reading period. Submitting outside of that window will make the editor very grumpy. \nWhile we have no doubt that everything you have written is absolutely amazing\, please limit yourself to three poems; or one short story; or one essay; or three reviews per acceptance period. Please send all submissions as a .rtf or .txt or .doc/.docx attachment\, or in the body of the email\, to lyradora@yahoo.com during the acceptance period. \nEHS will pay a flat rate of $5.00 for an original piece. We retain first electronic publishing rights. After the piece moves to the archives and the new issue is posted\, all rights revert to the author. Payment will be made via PayPal. No checks or cash. If you do not have a PayPal account\, payment may be made in the form of an online gift certificate to Amazon\, Barnes and Noble\, Bookshop.org\, or Kobo (all purveyors of fine literature). All payments will be made before the issue is launched on the Solstice.
