SUMMARY:PFN - Call for Submissions to Cagibi Journal. Theme: Entanglement
DESCRIPTION:We’re currently accepting poetry\, fiction\, nonfiction\, and translation submissions on the theme of Entanglement for Issue 24. In quantum physics\, entanglement is described as “a bizarre\, counterintuitive phenomenon” in which “two subatomic particles can be intimately linked to each other even if separated by billions of light-years of space…a change induced in one will affect the other.” Entangled particles\, on the quantum level\, are not therefore separate but parts of a whole; to know one is to know the other. On a macro\, human level\, we can become similarly entangled\, caught in complex\, intense dynamics nearly impossible to escape. As a heightened form of attachment\, romantic or otherwise\, entanglement blurs the boundary between “where I end and you begin” (to borrow from Radiohead). \nFor Issue 24\, we want you to play with and explore the multifaceted nature of entanglement on the macro\, micro\, and yes\, quantum level. Show us your quagmires\, confusions\, and fated connections. Weave us tangled webs and puzzling paradoxes. Tie your characters into knots. We are here for it. \nGUIDELINES \n\nWe welcome works in translation. Also\, we welcome submissions from outside the United States.\nTO WITHDRAW\, IN WHOLE OR IN PART: For help on how to withdraw a partial of your submission\, or the whole submission\, see our Submission Guidelines page.\nSimultaneous submissions are accepted as long as you notify us immediately should your piece be accepted elsewhere.\nPreviously unpublished work only. Cagibi does not consider work that has previously appeared in print or online.\n\nSee below for additional Prose and Poetry guidelines. \nPROSE GUIDELINES \n\nIn fiction\, the editors welcome short stories\, flash fiction or short-shorts\, and lengthier stories. There is no word count limit; use your best judgment. For flash fiction\, up to 3 flash pieces under 1000 words each.\nIn nonfiction\, Cagibi is literary in focus\, which includes personal narrative essays; but to be clear\, we do not consider academic papers that are limited to a particular audience or that are footnoted/in-text referenced.\n\nPOETRY GUIDELINES \n\nYou may submit up to 3 poems at once\, depending on the length; use your best judgment.\nPlace your poems in one document.\nIf your poem is a book-length epic\, then you should think about excerpting.

SUMMARY:F - Call for Submissions to Crab Creek Review. Theme: Embodied Lives
DESCRIPTION:For this fiction call “Embodied Lives\,”  we’re looking for stories of up to 3\,000 words that explore embodiment in all its complexity. How does the body—in its desire and strengths\, its fragilities and limits\, its autonomy and its subjugation to the larger systems of power that dominate our lives—shape who we are\, how we see ourselves and others\, and how we exist in relationship? How are mind and body in opposition to one another\, and how are they one? And what does it mean to be embodied when our bodies are—by choice or by force—rendered separate from our minds and wills and wants\, not fully our own?\nWe look forward to reading your authentic\, narratively engaging\, and well-crafted fiction on embodied life. \nGeneral Submissions \n\nThe reading period is open from September 15 through November 15\, or when our 300 Submittable Cap is hit.  The editors seek original\, unpublished poetry\, fiction and creative nonfiction via Submittable. Submissions are free\, and payment is in contributor copies. We look forward to reading your work\, and encourage early submissions. \nGeneral Submission Guidelines: \n\nOnly original\, previously unpublished work will be considered. This includes personal websites and social media.\nFor poetry\, send up to four poems. For fiction\, send stories of up to 3\,000 words. For creative nonfiction\, send essays of up to 1\,500 words.\nTitle your document with your name and the genre. (i.e.: GwendolynBrooks_Poetry; Adrienne Rich_Nonfiction.)\nInclude a cover letter in the provided space in the Submittable form (not in the document). Include your mailing address\, email and phone number\, a 50-word bio\, social handles\, and the titles of the pieces you are submitting.\nShould you submit something that is under simultaneous consideration\, please indicate this in your cover letter and notify us immediately by adding a note to your Submittable account if the piece is accepted elsewhere.\nSend your work as a SINGLE attachment (.doc; .docx; .rtf; PDF); docx preferred.\nPlease submit no more than one batch of poems or one prose piece per reading period.\nWe aim for a response time of 8 weeks\, but please do not query your submission status unless 4 months have passed.\nIf you need to update us on the status of your simultaneous submission\, please do so by adding a note to your submission\, in Submittable.\n\nPoetry:\nSend up to four poems\, no more than eight pages total. We welcome your best work\, and have no restrictions on form or content\, except that we will not consider work that is defamatory\, discriminatory\, or that promotes hatred. 12pt standard font. One batch of submissions per reading period. Revisions may be made upon acceptance; please do not withdraw and resubmit your work due to revisions concerns. \nCreative Nonfiction\nSend one piece up to 1\,500 words per submission period. We’re looking for well-crafted essays that exhibit depth and nuance\, a clear voice\, personal reflection\, and vivid scenes. Experimental\, lyric\, and non-traditional forms are encouraged. We do not publish literary criticism\, scholarly articles\, or reportage. Revisions may be made upon acceptance; do not withdraw and resubmit your work due to revision concerns.\n\nThemed Fiction—Embodied Lives\n“Literature does its best to maintain that its concern is with the mind; that the body is a sheet of plain glass through which the soul looks straight and clear\, and\, save for one or two passions such as desire and greed\, is null\, and negligible and non-existent.” (Virginia Woolf\, “On Being Ill”) \n“All I ever really want to know is how other people are making it through life—where do they put their body\, hour by hour\, and how do they cope inside of it.” (Miranda July\, It Chooses You) \nAs both Woolf and July suggest\, literature has long dismissed the body as little more than the vehicle for thought—a landscape the creative and critical self must cross (or maybe endure) in order to do the real work and to live the most meaningful life: a life of the mind. This relationship is a false binary\, though\, and progressively we understand (socially\, politically\, scientifically\, and even artistically) that mind and body are intricately in connection. \nFor this fiction call\, we’re looking for stories of up to 3\,000 words that explore embodiment in all its complexity. And what does it mean to be embodied when our bodies are—by choice or by force—rendered separate from our minds and wills and wants\, not fully our own? \nWe look forward to reading your authentic\, narratively engaging\, and well-crafted fiction on embodied life.

SUMMARY:PN -Tiny Spoon: a bite-size experimental literary magazine Seeking Submissions about: Superstition/Divination
DESCRIPTION:Submissions are now open for Issue 13: Superstition / Divination until November 30!\n\nHere we are – Issue 13. For this\, we chose a theme that embraces all that the number thirteen can mean. Specifically\, we call upon Superstition / Divination as our official theme\, to conjure all the ways that 13 toys with our relation to reality as a number of numeric dualities. It appears as a luck charm or a cursed omen depending on context. \nWe avoid the number 13 on elevators\, we feel a chill on a Friday the 13th; something just a little ominous looms – the potential for a correlation. The superstition adhered to the number 13 follows us\, whether or not we fully believe in its unlucky aura\, is it worth it to chance it? But what if…? \nOr\, is 13 misunderstood? As it represents karma\, tests of life\, and spirituality… in grappling with the abstract\, we seek something tangible. \nDivination is about correlation; how wisdom arises from pairing and juxtaposition. We peer into relationality and conjure meaning. The cosmos aids in this understanding\, letting pieces fall into alignment\, be it chaotic or planned. What follows the laws of nature and what refuses to? How do we read logic from the randomness of the universe? How does it speak to us through relationality? \nMoreover\, how are the ways that Superstition / Divination lean into the space of seeking understanding through the unknown; what about correlation across seemingly unconnected events? We look unto the expanse of divination\, the ancient divinatory spirit of our ancestors that pulled upon common chords of humanity and shared superstition journeys through time that reveled in communal beliefs. We embrace the historical nature of superstitions and divination as a tool to support communities in need. \nFor Issue 13\, we want your Superstition / Divination. What ways do you hold onto beliefs that guide your actions? How do you divine meaning from the world? Are superstition / divination two elements of the same essence? \nShow us your process\, your revelations. Share a spread or write into the correlation of cards or objects. Write into faith and belief that guides or binds you. We are here anticipating your revelations of the universe. How is it speaking to you? Scaring you? Lend us your divining wisdom. \n\nWhat We Look For:\nHere at Tiny Spoon\, we are especially interested in experimental work\, although not exclusively. If you’ve had trouble finding a home for your work because it doesn’t fit into generally recognized categories\, chances are your home is right here with us. \nWe seek work that pushes the boundaries of conventional genres; work that is daring\, experimental\, innovative\, quirky\, thoughtful\, vulnerable\, electric\, eccentric. In other words\, your inner workings expanded and exposed\, raw and immediate; your fragile soul parted at the seams into our bound paper glossary of tiny wonder. SUMMARY:P - Leonard Cohen Poetry Prize. Theme: Love\, Faith\, & Sex
DESCRIPTION:Leonard Cohen Poetry Prize — $2000 Awarded\n\n\n\nEnds on Thu\, Nov 7\, 2024 11:59 PM \n\n\n\nThe reading period for the Leonard Cohen Poetry Prize runs from September 21 to November 7 (LC’s birth anniversary to death anniversary).\n$1000 will be awarded to a poem that explores the intersection of love\, faith & sex. Four finalists will each be awarded $250.\n\nABOUT THE PRIZE\nPoet\, novelist\, singer/songwriter\, artist\, music producer\, Buddhist monk\, Leonard Cohen has won countless hearts. \nI found his music six years ago and haven’t listened to much else since. Now every morning when I drop my daughter off to preschool\, she and I sing along to “Suzanne” on the way. Having spent countless hours with the Leonard Cohen Archive at the University of Toronto\, I’m in awe of the devotion he had for his craft\, blackening page after page. \nHis ability to blend the sacred and the profane\, the spiritual and the sensual remains unmatched. We are indebted to him for bridging the world of literature with the world of music. \nA couple of times in concerts\, he sang this two-liner: “no\, it wasn’t any good\, there’s no reason why you should remember me” while having given us a million reasons to remember him. \nWe hope this will push people who are aware of Cohen’s genius as a musician to turn to his poetry. It gives us deep honor to name this prize after the one and only Leonard Cohen and carry a part of his infinite legacy on our slim shoulders. \nAs Leonard would say\, forgive the poverty of these words for they do not reflect the abundance of our gratitude. \n— Karan Kapoor\, Editor-in-Chief\, ONLY POEMS \n  \nSUBMISSION GUIDELINES\n\nSend us up to 3 pages of poetry. \nEach poem starts on a new page. \nIn the spirit of Leonard Cohen\, we ask that your poems deal in some way with the intersections of Love\, Faith\, & Sex. \nWe only accept previously uncurated work. \nWe love cover letters and would prefer knowing whose work we are reading. You are welcome to share your love for Leonard Cohen\, your publication history\, if any\, though that would not influence our decision. Please make sure that the document of your poems is stripped of any biographical information—use the cover letter field on Submittable for this. \nPlease withdraw your poems if they get accepted elsewhere. \nWe will respond to everyone by the end of this year. Winners will be announced and published in January. \nThere will be no deadline extensions. \nYour submission comes with an exclusive 33% discount off any of the annual ONLY POEMS membership tiers ($33-$82 value). \n\nPLEASE NOTE:\nThe Leonard Cohen Family Trust does not endorse this award\, ONLY POEMS\, or the prize winners. It is for their generosity we are allowed to name this prize after Leonard Cohen\, the Poet Laureate of the World.

SUMMARY:PFN - Rowayat: A Literary Journal is Open for Submissions for Issue #10 on the Theme of Borders
DESCRIPTION:Issue 10 of Rowayat explores “borders” in all their forms: from the physical\, heavily guarded borders that divide the earth\, to the intangible but equally real psychological\, cultural\, and socio-economic borders that delineate our interior and exterior worlds. In our upcoming issue\, we delve into the lines that shape and limit the human experience\, challenging and redefining them through the lens of prose and verse.\nSubmit prose and poems that reflect your best-polished work. We’re looking for immediate\, fresh writing that reflects your deepest experiences of borders and how they affect your view of the world. We seek well-crafted poems\, prose and nonfiction that attempt to reappropriate the hardest borders\, be they cultural\, linguistic\, or bureaucratic in nature.\nWriters may submit poems or prose responding directly to the issue’s BORDERS theme as a whole. \nOur review process is semi-anonymous (our readers do not know the names of submitters\, and then they pass all submissions to the genre editors. You may submit to more than one genre (but only 1 submission per genre—thank you!). \nSubmission Categories :\nFiction (1500 – 10\,000 words) \nPoetry (three poems or two flash fiction) \nCNF/Nonfiction (All forms of essays\, memoirs\, travel literature\, author interviews\, and book reviews. 1500 – 3000 words) \n

SUMMARY:F - Call for Submissions to Toad Shade Zine. Theme: Black and White
DESCRIPTION:The theme is Black and White. I’ve made a picture\, too. Apply it how you want. Do you have a character who doesn’t believe in nuance? Have all the colors been arrested and imprisoned? Make up a story\, apply your interpretation\, and send it in. \nThe winning story will get $50 again. Four more stories will be selected\, $20 each this time. \nAgain\, I know this isn’t a ton of money\, but I’m still not rich. \nSomeone just asked about poetry. Send in a poem if you like\, totally fine by me. \nLast time\, I had to force my co-workers to read the stories after they all said\, “Oh yeah\, that sounds like so much fun!” when I originally asked them if they wanted to judge the stories. It did turn out to be a lot of fun in the end. It was so much fun\, in fact\, that I’m getting a whole new batch of judges this time. Same setup as before\, maybe we’re not qualified\, but I’ve never let that stop me. The reading will be blind and fair. It didn’t matter last time\, but let’s cap the stories at 2\,000 words. No minimum. We’ll close early if we get 150 submissions\, but that seems unlikely. \nNo reprints\, please. Simultaneous submissions are ok\, and the zine will only be in print form\, so I don’t know if you count anything in it as ‘published’. Also\, I’m not asking for exclusive rights\, just the rights to include it in the zine. If you want to make my life a little easier\, remove your name from your submission ahead of time. The judging will be blind and if you can’t or won’t take your name off your submission\, I can do it. It’s not grounds for disqualification\, just an extra step. \nI don’t feel like anyone should have to say it\, but don’t send in anything written by\, or with the assistance of\, AI like ChatGPT\, Gemini\, or whatever else is out there. What’s the point? Wouldn’t it be a lot cooler if AI did your laundry anyway? Write your own story\, please.

SUMMARY:PN - Chicken Soup for the Soul Series Seeking: Dog Stories
DESCRIPTION:Dog Stories \nWe are thrilled to announce that we are now accepting stories for our dog topic that is to be released in 2025. Because of the popularity of this topic\, we do a new dog book approximately every eighteen months so here is another chance for you to share a story or two about the member of your family who just happens to walk on four feet! \nDogs have always been considered companions and playmates that brighten our days and enrich our lives. What would we do without them? They are also wonderful and amazing teachers. The lessons we learn from our canine friends come in all shapes and sizes\, just like they do. Tell us the new thing your canine friend has taught you. How smart she is or how she outsmarted you! How he made you smile. How she “rescued” you after you “rescued” her. How he brought your family closer together\, helped you find love\, inspired you to change something in your human life. Stories can be serious or humorous\, or both. We can’t wait to read all the heartwarming\, inspirational\, and hysterical stories you have about your dogs. \n***Please note: If you submitted a story or poem for a previous dog book and we DID NOT publish it\, here is your chance to submit it to us again. If you submitted a story and we DID publish it in a previous dog book\, please do not submit it. We will not publish it again. \nHere are a few ideas but we know you will come up with more on your own: \n– How does your dog improve your life?\n– How does your dog warm your heart and make you smile?\n– How did your dog show kindness to a human or another animal?\n– How did your dog teach you to put things in perspective and not take yourself so seriously?\n– How did your dog teach you to forgive and move on?\n– How did your dog teach you to live in the present\, and BE present?\n– The crazy things your dog does\n– The crazy things you do for your dog\n– Has your dog demonstrated a surprising degree of empathy or comprehension of a situation?\n– How did your dog teach you about kindness?\n– Does your dog act a certain way with one family member and a different way with another?\n– Did your dog get lost and\, by some unexplainable miracle\, return home?\n– Has your dog ever done something extremely embarrassing?\n– How did your dog teach you about humor?\n– Did you train him\, or did he train you?\n– Who rescued who?\n– Learning about loyalty and unconditional love\n– My dog seems almost human and can understand the things I’m saying or feeling\n– Does she talk back to you?\n– How my dog picked me\n– How my therapy dog has made a difference\n– How my dog changed my family\n– Your work at a shelter or rescue organization and have great stories from there \nRecipe for a Winning Chicken Soup for the Soul Submission\nA Chicken Soup for the Soul story is an inspirational\, true story about ordinary people having extraordinary experiences. It is a story that opens the heart and rekindles the spirit. It is a simple piece that touches our readers and helps them discover basic principles they can use in their own lives. These stories are personal and often filled with emotion and drama. They are filled with vivid images created by using the five senses. In some stories\, the readers feel that they are actually in the scene with the people. \nChicken Soup for the Soul stories are written in the first person and have a beginning\, middle and an end. The stories often close with a punch\, creating emotion\, rather than simply talking about it. Chicken Soup for the Soul stories have heart\, but also something extra—an element that makes us all feel more hopeful\, more connected\, more thankful\, more passionate and better about life in general. A good story causes tears\, laughter\, goose bumps or any combination of these. \nThe most powerful stories are about people extending themselves\, or performing an act of love\, service or courage for another person. \nGuidelines for a Chicken Soup for the Soul story\n\nTell an exciting\, heartwarming or funny story about something that has happened to you or someone you know. Your story should be written in the first person and should be about yourself or someone close to you.\nTell your story in a way that will make the reader cry\, laugh\, get goose bumps or say “Wow!”\nThe story should start “in the action” and draw in the reader. Do not start your story with an introduction about what you are going to say\, or end with a concluding paragraph about what you just said.\nDon’t be afraid to speak from the heart. Many people tell personal stories for the first time in our books\, and they find it to be a cathartic and productive experience. We do let you use a pen name for your story if you do not want to use your real name.\nDon’t try fancy moves with tenses. Writing in the present tense about something that happened in the past rarely works.\nKeep your story to 1200 words or less. Tighten\, tighten\, tighten!\nYour story must be true. No fiction\, no creative writing.\n\nWhat a Chicken Soup for the Soul story IS NOT:\n\nA sermon\, an essay or eulogy.\nAn “as told to” story written by you for someone else. If you ghost-write a story for someone\, we thank you for helping that person share his or her story. That person’s name will be listed as the author and he or she can acknowledge your help in the bio section.\nA term paper\, thesis\, letter or journal entry.\nAbout politics or controversial issues.\nA biography or testimonial.\nA journalistic article about a third party that reads like a newspaper article.\n\nGuidelines for a Chicken Soup for the Soul poem\n\nWe love poems that tell a story. A Chicken Soup for the Soul poem does the same job as a story. The reader goes away having learned your story\, just through poetry instead of prose.\nWe do not publish poems that do not tell a story.\nWe also do not publish poems that seem overly focused on rhyming and read more like greeting cards.

SUMMARY:N - Friends Journal Seeking Submissions about: How Meetings Use Money
DESCRIPTION:January 2025: How Meetings Use Money\n\n\n\nEnds on Mon\, Oct 21\, 2024 11:59 PM \n\n\n\nFast Facts \n\nFeatures run 1200-2500 words\nSubmissions close October 21\, 2024\nQuestions? Email editors@friendsjournal.org\n\nIf there’s one topic we can simultaneously talk about both too little and too much\, it’s money. This is as true for Quaker meetings as it is for families. Our January 2025 issue opens the floor for discussion on “How Meetings Use Money.” (Friends Journal last considered this theme six years ago for our October 2018 issue\, before the pandemic turned the economy on its head and forever changed the landscape of employment.) There are many angles that Friends could discuss. We’ve brainstormed some ideas—but feel free to surprise us with your own take on the topic! \nWhere does our money come from? \nA lot of Quaker wealth is locked up in endowments started by “dead Quaker money”—wealth bequeathed by Quakers of centuries past. What responsibilities do we have to their original donors or the people they may have exploited? Friends benefited from Indigenous land displacement\, a century of slavery\, and the labor of workers in the industrial revolution. Later Quaker enterprises have been augmented by capital from these initial wealth sources. \nHow are we researching\, honoring\, and acknowledging these debts? What kind of forensic accounting can we do to understand the myriad sources of our inherited wealth? \nHow do we support our meeting? \nQuaker wealth continues to change in the twenty-first century. Most of the well-known historic Quaker businesses have been bought and sold over\, and there are fewer truly wealthy Quaker families. Many Friends today work in service or knowledge fields. How have these changes affected the finances of our denomination and the ability to live out our values in the workplace? As individuals and families\, how do we decide how much to donate to to our Friends meeting or church and how do we balance that out with other donations? \nHow do we support our members? \nThere’s sometimes an assumption that Quakers are all financially secure and well-off\, but that’s often not the case and it can shift throughout a lifetime. Rising inflation rates in many countries are squeezing bank accounts and the high costs of childcare in the United States are forcing families to change how they work. Many long-term trends were accelerated by COVID and lockdown. Manufacturing has continued to move overseas. Many once-stable jobs have been replaced by part-time\, subcontracted employment with little security\, even in academia. The rise of the so-called gig economy (typified by uber and doordash) and the proliferation of warehouse jobs (such as Amazon) employ millions at low salaries\, often seasonally. Many Friends have been affected by these changes. \nHow do we look out for and support people in our community who are struggling financially? Do we even notice their distress in our assumptions? Do we help with food\, clothing\, or money to help bridge over rent or mortgage payments? How can we ensure that financially strapped Friends are invited to Quaker events with costs? \nWhere does the money go? \nAn activist Friend of mine used to point to the nice furnishings in our meetinghouse and chuckle about how many good things we could fund in the community if we sold some of it off. Has your meeting liquidated any of its property or longstanding endowments for community service or for reparations of historic injustices? \nIt’s sometimes said budgets reflect an organization’s deepest values. Do meeting budgets reflect that? When we do find ourselves with extra funds from a bequest or windfall\, where do we spend it? How do we balance needs for our meeting community (building upkeep and repair\, scholarships for Friends)\, and when and how do we give it to others in our community? Where do we invest our corporate savings? Who decides how we spend money in our meetings? What kind of ministries are we supporting? What can we let go of? \nThere are a lot of meetinghouses mostly empty these days\, perhaps even more so after the pandemic pushed many to move to virtual or hybrid worship. Could we ever decide we don’t need all of these spaces? Or could we go further and sell our properties and start meeting at a rented space like a firehall or library once a week? How do we decide on the best use of our financial resources?

SUMMARY:PFN - Call for Submssions to The FruitSlice: A Queer Quarterly on the Theme of: Rituals
DESCRIPTION:Submissions are restricted to LGBTQ+ creators. \n\n\n\n\nTHIS ISSUE’S THEME IS:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRituals \nIn a world where traditions often feel automatic—where we find ourselves asking\, Why do we do this?—there’s something powerful in reclaiming\, recreating\, and reimagining the meaning behind the rituals we choose to carry forward. \nSo much of what we do has become habitual\, disconnected from its origins. From the way we celebrate milestones to the ways we gather as a community\, rituals define and reinforce our identities. When we start asking why we do the things we do… sometimes the answers disturb us\, sometimes they connect us. But in the end\, rituals are how we give meaning to the everyday. \nAs a community\, we’ve been excluded from certain rituals. Why do we follow traditions that were never meant for us? \nWhat does it mean to embrace and subvert the rituals handed to us? How do we engage in these acts of Trans*formation? We believe that rituals have the power to both bind and liberate us. \nThis issue is an invitation to explore the rituals in your life and in our collective lives. What do we inherit\, and what do we build? Why do we kiss under the mistletoe and how can we infuse the everyday with our own kind of magic? \nWe are asking why we follow certain traditions and whether they still serve us. How can we create new rituals that affirm our truths rather than confining us to a heteronormative script? \nWe want to hear about the rituals that matter to you—whether they’re personal or communal\, practical or spiritual. What rituals do you live by\, reject\, or reimagine? \nWhat new rituals will you create\, and how will they shape the world we live in? \nSubmission Guidelines\nSubmission Fee: There is no fee to submit. \nPayment: At this time\, we cannot offer payment for published work. \nPreferred Format: \n\n\nFile Naming: Name your file in this format: LastNameFirstName_PieceTitle. \n\n\nDocument Format: At the top of your document\, include a word count\, genre description\, and any relevant content warnings. Please note: We reserve the right to add content warnings to your work when published. \n\n\nWord Limit: We recommend keeping written pieces under 5 pages or under 1500 words. \nMultiple Submissions: There’s no limit to the number of pieces you can submit. However\, please submit one work per submission form. Each piece should be submitted separately to ensure it’s properly reviewed. \nMediums: We accept all printable mediums. If you’re unsure whether your piece fits\, feel free to submit\, and we’ll review it. We recommend becoming familiar with our tone and style by reading through our past issues\, available digitally for free\, and checking out our FAQ for more details on what we’re looking for.

SUMMARY:PFN - Call for Submissions to Metonym Literary Journal on the Theme of Reflection
DESCRIPTION:Spring 2025 Issue Theme: Reflection \nThe sun’s rays bouncing off of the ripples of a lake\, recalling memories of childhood\, passing by a mirror. Whether it be abstract or literal\, internal or communal\, reflection allows us to return to an idea or a time with a new perspective. It permeates everything we experience\, allowing us to see purpose or meaning that was previously hidden to us at the time\, or makes clear the futility of that concept or moment. Reflection isn’t limited to one idea or image- it is where art begins. What have your reflections looked like? How has your perspective allowed you to reflect on your life or others? Metonym is seeking submissions of short fiction\, creative nonfiction and poetry that capture the theme of reflection in all of its nuance and diversity. \nSubmissions must be previously unpublished work. Simultaneous submissions will be considered as long as we are notified immediately if the piece is accepted elsewhere. Work that will be considered from an author includes: \n\n1-4 poems on the same submission\, each under two pages long\nFiction or creative non-fiction up to 1\,500 words\n\nThough your name will be attributed to your work when published\, Metonym editors review each piece as a blind submission. Please do not include any identifying information in your manuscript\, including within the file name or anywhere on the document. Works containing personal identifying information (including\, but not limited to: names\, phone numbers\, emails\, or physical addresses) will be disqualified.  \nWith the current surge of Artificial Intelligence being implemented in future technology\, Metonym does not accept works that are AI generated\, whether it be art or manuscript. We believe that the best work comes from original\, authentic pieces that speak from the artist themselves. Any submissions that are AI generated will result in disqualification. \nSubmissions close October 20th\, 2024 at 11:59pm\, PST \nOur current response time varies and will be longer if your work is under serious consideration\, but acceptance and rejection notifications will generally be sent out by the end of December each calendar year. Please be patient! We are a small\, hard-working staff and we want to give every piece the time it deserves. \nIf you are accepted\, we will send you a free copy of the finished journal in Spring.

SUMMARY:P - Rattle Seeking "Tribute to Food" Poems
DESCRIPTION:Our Summer 2025 issue will be dedicated to poems about food. The poems may be any style or length\, but must be written about food in some way. We no longer publish essays\, but always include a contributor notes section\, where poets briefly discuss the relationship between food and poetry\, if there is one\, allowing for a wide array of perspectives to be shared. \nYou may submit up to four previously uncurated poems (or pages of short poems) at the same time\, either in a single file or up to four files. Do not include your name or contact info within the file content. Only make one submission (of up to four poems) to this category. We’ll reply a month or two after the deadline. \nVERY IMPORTANT:\n\nSubmissions cannot be revised after submission. Note that typos and minor changes never affect our decisions—proofreading is what editors are for. If you’ve made a significant mistake\, use the internal messaging system to send a new file as an attachment.\nTo withdraw a single poem from a submission of multiple poems\, just log in\, click on the submission\, and send a message to let us know which you’d like removed. Do not withdraw the entire submission—if you do\, the submission will no longer be active and we won’t see it.\nDon’t include any contact information in the file(s) that you submit. Your name and contact info will be included in the Submittable fields\, and this will make it easier for us to read fairly.
