SUMMARY:F - Fractured Lit Flash Fiction OPEN | Prize $3500 - No Themes
DESCRIPTION:We want your most creative and resonant flash and microfictions. No themes. Send us those pieces that hum with life\, velocity\, and intimacy. Write that story you’ve been thinking about for months\, the one that needs to exist\, the one that caught you in its glare of white-hot inspiration. Please don’t forget that we love stories that involve actions\, reactions\, and reckonings. Write and submit the stories only you can tell! \nFractured Lit publishes flash fiction with emotional resonance\, with characters who come to life through their actions and responses to the world around them. We’re searching for flash that investigates the mysteries of being human\, the sorrow\, and the joy of connecting to a diverse population. \nWe’re thrilled to partner with Guest Judge Maurice Carlos Ruffin\, who will choose one grand-prize winner and 15 finalists from a shortlist. The first-place winner will receive $2\,000 and publication\, while the 15 finalists will receive $100 and publication. All entries will be considered for general publication. \nGood luck and happy writing! \nGUIDELINES: \n\nYour $20 reading fee allows up to two stories of 1\,000 words or fewer each per entry—if submitting two stories\, please put them both in a SINGLE document.\nWriters from historically marginalized groups may submit for free until we reach a cap of 25 submissions in this category. No additional fee waivers will be granted for this contest.\nWe allow multiple submissions—each set of two flash/micro stories requires a separate submission accompanied by a reading fee.\nPlease send flash and microfiction only—1\,000 word count maximum per story.\nWe only consider unpublished work for contests—we do not review reprints\, including self-published work (even on blogs and social media). Reprints will be automatically disqualified.\nSimultaneous submissions are okay—please notify us and withdraw your entry if you find another home for your writing.\nAll entries will also be considered for publication in Fractured Lit.\nDouble-space your submission and use Times New Roman 12 (or larger if needed).\nPlease include a brief cover letter with your publication history (if applicable). In the cover letter\, please include content warnings as well\, to safeguard our reading staff.\nWe only read work in English\, though some code-switching/meshing is warmly welcomed.\nWe do not read anonymous submissions. However\, shortlisted stories are sent anonymously to the judge.\nUnless specifically requested\, we do not accept AI-generated work. For this contest\, AI-generated work will be automatically disqualified.\n\nThe deadline for entry is July 14\, 2024. We will announce the shortlist within ten to twelve weeks of the contest’s close. All writers will be notified when the results are final.

SUMMARY:N - Call for Submissions to Orion Magazine. Theme: Mushrooms
DESCRIPTION:ESSAYS ON MUSHROOMS\nFor next summer\, we’re planning a celebration of all things mushrooms: foraging for them\, encountering them on grocery store shelves\, even swimming by them. We’re looking for pitches for nonfiction stories about important mushrooms in history. From July 15-30th\, send us your ideas for emperors poisoned by mushrooms\, brilliant mushroom heists\, or religious leaders who prayed to mushrooms.  Pitches (not full stories\, please!) should be for nonfiction (essay\, memoir\, or reporting)\, and no more than a page or so. \nPlease write to submissions@orionmagazine.org with any questions.

SUMMARY:PF - Bronze Bird Books Love Poetry Anthology Seeking: Expressions of love with a seasonal arc
DESCRIPTION:To create a cohesive and deeply heartfelt book\, we’re primarily looking for expressions of romantic or Éros love. \nAs much as possible\, this anthology will tie various expressions of love to a seasonal arc. So\, whether it’s pumpkin spice latte dates in autumn or nostalgic recollections of summer love on a Coney Island boardwalk\, we welcome a specific sense of atmosphere. In past collections\, we’ve received many submissions about grief or the loss of a partner; we’ll consider those for this project\, too\, if the poem ultimately celebrates the love that existed or persists. \nPublication Notes / FAQ: \n\nJuly 15th is the deadline for submissions.\nIf your submission is accepted for publication\, we will notify you by August 1st. If you haven’t heard from us by then\, consider it a pass. (Since email deliverability can be a complex ordeal with many variables\, we recommend that you periodically check your spam folder in case we don’t directly reach your inbox.)\nSubmitted work should not have been previously published; needless to say\, it should also be original\, true to your experience\, and not written entirely by a bot!\nWe generally prefer poetry without complicated formatting. Longer lines of poetry don’t always fit in our standard 6” x 9” trim size. If it’s a prose poem\, it’s OK. Otherwise\, anticipate that very long lines may spill over if you exceed 68 characters and consider rebalancing your line breaks.\nWe are also open to prose poetry/flash fiction if it is thematically relevant. We will consider anything up to 1\,000 words.\nAll submitted works should have titles. We include a table of contents and need to refer to your work in some way.\nContributors grant First Publication Rights to the Bronze Bird Books love anthology. All rights revert to the author after publication. We will work to promote this collection and all contributors therein\, with bios and promotional links included at the end of the manuscript. All accepted contributors will receive a digital copy of the collection; the press does not have the resources to provide complimentary print copies.\nAfter you complete the Google Form\, you should automatically receive a copy of it. That email copy may alter the appearance/formatting of your submission; however\, rest assured that we have received the text exactly as you inputted it.

SUMMARY:PFN - The Deronda Review Seeking Submissions on the Theme of Trust
DESCRIPTION:The Deronda Review is primarily a poetry magazine\, but we are also open to short fiction\, essay\, and memoir. For the magazine itself\, prose submissions should be a maximum of 500 words. However\, longer prose works may be published on our homepage. Poetry submissions should consist of up to five poems\, either in ONE Word document or in the body of the email. Only works with special graphic requirements should be sent in a .pdf. We are open to reprints and simultaneous submissions; if your submission is simultaneous\, please tell us so. We recommend that  you read an issue (see “Archives” section)\, and consider our statement on the aims and character of the magazine\, here. \nWe publish one issue annually.  Our present reading period is from May 15 to July 15\, 2024.  Send to Esther Cameron\, derondareview at g mail\, or to Mindy Aber Barad\, maber4kids at yahoo period com.  \nFor the 2024 issue\,  our main theme will be Trust.  As we wrote in our email calling for submissions: \n Our theme\nThis time is “trust\,” and what we have in mind\nIs chiefly trust among us\, fellow-humans.\nWe know\, of course\, that some cannot be trusted\,\nThat there are various forces in this world\nWhich are not friendly\, of which we must beware;\nAnd that in order to get out of bed\nEach morning\, it is helpful if we hold\nSome trust\, that in the end all will be well\nThat there’s a Power which plans all for good.\nBut to perceive where trust is possible\nAmid the thickets of our human plane\,\nTo set one’s foot upon a bridge that’s offered\nWhich may conduct us toward a distant safety –\nThat is an art perhaps too little studied. \nFor modern life has trained us to rely\nLess upon one another than on systems\nIn which we find our places\, hopefully\nBy merit and desert\, according to\nInalienable rights. We trust they work\nFor good\, that justice can be found within them\,\nAnd where such trust is not betrayed too often\,\nThe people are well governed\, and are happy.\nBut where\, through machinations of the strong\nOr working of impersonal forces guided\nBy laws not moral\, but mechanical\,\nThe systems seem to turn against the beings\nBy and for whom they were at first designed\,\nThen it is well if those who can be trusted\nCan find each other and make common cause\nTo rectify the system\, or at least\nEndure\, outlast the evils of its breakage.\nOn this we have long thought\, nor is such thinking\nOriginal with us; see\, on our homepage\,\nThe document “Intelligent Community\,”\nWhich brings some old advice to present times. \nWe hope these thoughts inspire or bring to mind\nPoems of yours.

SUMMARY:NP - Call for Submissions to Bad Day Book. Theme: Parenting
DESCRIPTION:No matter how you look at it\, some days are just bad days. Often times you are able to look back on those days and laugh about what happened. The Bad Day Book is here to help you take a step back and realize one day you may laugh about what is happening. Or\, it might even help you realize that compared to others\, maybe it isn’t really as bad of a day as you thought. \nWhat are the rules for story and poem submissions? \n\nStories should be about bad things\, but that are still funny. We are not looking to include tragic or heart breaking stories. This book is to get others to laugh\, gasp\, and cringe.\nStories MUST be personal and true events that have already happened. No AI bot stories. No creative writing. No fiction.\nWe prefer stories under 1200 words. We will consider works up to 1500 words\, but it is rare to have works picked that are over the preferred 1200.\nStories should be written with first person narration and told in past tense.\nDo not include any vulgarity\, controversial topics\, politics\, sex/drugs\, drinking\, illegal activities\, curse/crass/crude words. This is a family friendly publication.\nThough many bad days are caused by a “villain”\, whether it be a person/company\, do not name drop or tear down others. Focus the story on what happens directly to you and not the people on the other end. We will not publish works that are written to tear others down\, even if they have done shady stuff. You may refer to others as friends\, coworkers\, family member\, pen names or a vague descriptor.\nStories should include a beginning\, middle\, and an end. Begin straight in the action; no introductions to the story are necessary. Make sure you conclude your story\, but please do not end the story with any recap. It’s always best to end with a laugh.\nOnly submit a story once to each theme you would like it considered for. (Stories submitted more than once per theme will be deleted.)\nPoems must tell a story.\nWe do not pay for submissions\, only for published works.\nWe do not accept all submitted stories and poems to be published. Though not all submissions will be published in books\, some will be accepted for social media publication.\nIf your story or poem is selected to be published in one of our books or social media\, you will be asked to sign a permission release contract. The contract will allow The Bad Day Book rights to publish your story.\n\nYou maintain copyright under your name\nLicense will grant The Bad Day Book exclusive rights for 12 months\, with permission to use story in later editions as well. (Not exclusively-Written permission from author will be required for other uses)\nAfter the 12 months author may self-publish in any form (book\, blog\, etc) without making any changes to story or referencing The Bad Day Book.\nAfter 12 months author may publish with any third-party any rewritten variation of this story/life experience. No reference to The Bad Day Book required.\n\n\nPlease do not contact us to ask for an update about your story unless you need to know whether we are considering it because another publisher is interested in it too.\nIf your story or poem is not selected for any of the variations you have requested\, you will be notified if we would like to hold the submission for a different book edition or if The Bad Day Book with be passing on your story or poem.\nWe will not consider previous published stories or poems\, with one exception being previously published stories or poem from personal blog publications.\nAuthor name can be shown as first name only\, first and last name\, or a pen name if you would prefer to not use your real name\n\nIf you have already submitted a story or poem and are looking to change any story details or contact information please email mystory@thbaddaybook.com \nWe do not pay for submissions. We only pay for stories and poems that are published in books or on social media.

SUMMARY:PFN - The Shallot: Journal of Mental Health\, Art\, and Literature Seeking Submissions on the Theme: Divergent
DESCRIPTION:The Shallot is open to artists with lived mental and emotional health experiences. \nVol. 3\, No. 2 – Prompt: “Divergent”\nTwo paths diverge in a yellow world; I am the one less traveled by\, they say. \nThey’re the type of person who walks upside down on the ceiling\, it makes sense to them and always has\, never mind that it moves away from pesky traditional expectations. They sort paint chips alphabetically\, then by color; they get dressed feet first; they love bearded dragons. \nNeurodivergent. To think differently\, with the brain trotting well-worn paths exclusive to the individual. More than a buzzword. A state of being; a state of risk; a state of safety. \nStanding by the stove\, they appear absent-minded\, stirring a stockpot\, its aroma swirling as it rises. They concoct their recipe backwards\, starting with flavor or the sauce and somersaulting it back to an acceptable protein. This will be a fusion\, unexpected and delicious\, elevating the plate in an unexpected way. To some a gut punch\, to some a handshake. They like a plate that does something interesting; unexpected. \nOur mental health intersects with the various factors of our identity. Our differences make us strong and can bring us together\, if we let them draw us into observation and conversation. We can share lived experience\, neurodivergent and not\, to render a more beautiful world. \nFor this edition\, send us a work that diverges from the norm or is somehow divergent. It may represent neurodivergence\, fusion\, exploration\, or something important or representative to you. \nSubmission Guidelines\n\nTwo written submissions per artist at this time. You can submit multiple pieces in the same entry.\n\n\n\nNonfiction\nFictionSubmissions\nPoetry\n\n\nWritten work should be no longer than 1000 words.\n\n\n\n\nNO submission fees.\n\n\nBio\n\nAlways include a third-person author/artist/professional bio. The bio should be at least 1-2 sentences and up to 50 words. 450-500 characters maximum. More extended bios will not be accepted.\n\nNote: There is a question for a more extended bio in this round of submissions. We may or may not continue this forward.\n\n\nWe will publish the bio\, your pronouns\, and links to your social media that you include.\nWe reserve the right to make grammatical changes while copyediting\, but you will get to approve the final version.\n\n\nQuestions\n\nAnswer all required questions in the submission system.\nYou must be 18 years of age or older to enter.

SUMMARY:F - CultureCult Press Seeking Submissions for the "Mono no aware" Anthology
DESCRIPTION:  \nWe invite writers to contribute their short and longer fictions to CultureCult’s upcoming anthology\, “Mono No Aware“ \n“Mono no aware” is a Japanese term that captures the deep awareness of the transient nature of life and beauty\, evoking a gentle sadness at their passing. It is the bittersweet realization that all things are fleeting\, and it invites us to appreciate the ephemeral moments that make life beautiful. Stories in this anthology should resonate with the theme of transience\, evoking the delicate beauty found in moments that are destined to fade. \nTHE FINAL DATE OF SUBMISSION IS JULY 21\, 2024 \nCome up with your own story or feel free to take inspiration from one of our writing prompts below: \n1) When I fell for a young artist’s ephemeral installations in nature\, I should’ve known that her creations always get reclaimed by the elements\, sooner than later. \n2) We are on a quest to photograph the fleeting bloom that appears once every hundred years atop a mountain which is (almost) impossible to climb. \n3) After accidentally attaining the keys to eternal life\, an ordinary man becomes acutely aware of the fleeting nature of life and the world around him \n4) An intelligent species that only lives for a day. When a researcher stumbles upon one of the greatest discoveries in science\, her ideas about life as we know it is about to change. \n5) She obsessively travels from one moment of grief in time to another. He keeps trying to lead the time machine to moments of beauty\, but she refuses to give up control. \n6) A soldier in a bygone war writes a series letters to a loved one\, aware that each letter could be their last. \n7) Two lovers separated by memory meet once a year under a cherry blossom tree\, not knowing each meeting is both their first and their last. \n8) As a family leaves their beautiful ancestral home during a genocide\, a man explains to his son how change has been the only constant in human history \nWE ARE ACCEPTING: \nShort Story: (between 1500-8000 words) Send no more than ONE short story \nFlash Fiction: (between 100-1500 words) Send no more than TWO flash fictions \nWe are accepting TRANSLATED WORKS as well. Submission of translated works must be accompanied by a statement declaring that the translator has obtained the author’s permission and their publisher’s\, if required. \nSimultaneous Submissions are welcome but the author must inform us by e-mail as soon as the submitted piece is accepted elsewhere. Pieces cannot be withdrawn once CultureCult Press informs the author of its acceptance for publication. \nWe consider reprints but generally do not publish them unless they are absolutely exceptional. \nAt present\, we are unable to pay our contributors. \nEach contributor shall receive a COMPLIMENTARY DIGITAL COPY of the anthology as soon as it publishes. \nManuscripts should directly be sent to CultureCultMagazine@gmail.com \nEmails must have the subject line “Submission for MONO NO AWARE“ \nEach piece MUST be attached with a short bio (preferably within 100 words) and\, if possible\, a photograph of the author to go along with publication. \nPlease submit your files in the following formats: .doc /.docx /.txt. DO NOT submit PDFs.

SUMMARY:PFN - Call for Submissions to Please See Me. Theme: Harmony
DESCRIPTION:We are OPEN for Submissions through July 22\, 2024\nfor the Fall 2024 Issue #15 – Harmony\nGeneral Guidelines\nWe seek previously unpublished\, creative\, and high-quality work in the form of poetry\, creative nonfiction/essays\, and fiction/short stories/flash fiction. Patients\, students\, family members\, caregivers\, nurses\, physicians\, healthcare consumers\, artists\, mental health providers\, physical therapists\, writers\, clergy—all of us will be patients one day and all are welcome to submit work. We are especially looking for content from vulnerable populations and those who care for them; content that connects us with every community\, makes us feel something\, helps us see illness\, wellness\, health\, or the healthcare environment differently\, and inspires equality in healthcare and the world. \nTheme Guidelines: Harmony\nHarmony in health or healthcare is a wonderful thing when it occurs. Finding that physical and mental equilibrium where mind and body are in sync are those periods in our lives akin to flow–we feel great\, we are thinking clearly and everything is going well. How much our lives are spent in harmony with ourselves? With those we love? What does the search for physical harmony look like for you? For someone you love? Or the search for harmony in our mind? How does illness–physical or mental–leave us in disharmony? \nFor providers: What does harmony in the care you deliver look like? In the relationships with your patients or colleagues? In working with care teams or trying to implement new technology to deliver advancements in care? What does cultural harmony look like in healthcare? \nThese are the stories in all forms–creative nonfiction\, short stories\, and poetry–we are curating for Fall Issue #15. \nGenre Guidelines\nPoetry\nPlease submit a maximum of three poems at a time. If you submit more than three\, we can only read the first three. \nFiction\nPlease submit short stories no more than 4\,000 words in length. Flash fiction\, up to 1\,000 words\, is welcome and encouraged. Submissions should be double-spaced in 12pt Times Roman or other serif font with 1″ margins. We will look at excepts of longer works on a case-by-case basis; please query us with a description of your project before submitting if greater than 4\,000 words. \nCreative Nonfiction\nPlease submit nonfiction pieces no more than 4\,000 words in length. Submissions should be double-spaced in 12pt Times Roman or other serif font with 1″ margins. We will look at excepts of longer works on a case-by-case basis; please query us with a description of your project before submitting if longer than 4\,000 words.

SUMMARY:P - Call for Submisions to Rabbit: a journal for nonfiction poetry. Theme: Extinction
DESCRIPTION:Rabbit is currently accepting submissions for Issue 40: the EXTINCTION Issue. \nThe sixth mass extinction bears the marks of centuries of capitalist accumulation. While the science of climate catastrophe is well documented and broadly accepted\, ways of preventing extinction are far from settled. Poetry has engaged with the destructive nature of capitalism and imperial expansion since early English industrialisation\, and contemporary poetry confronts these questions with aesthetic curiosity and force. If it feels impossible to imagine a future\, poetry offers itself as a site to do just that. \nEXTINCTION asks for poetry inspired by science and ecology\, geopolitical/materialist writing\, writing from avant-garde or prophetic traditions\, and human–nonhuman relations. \nEXTINCTION considers the social and economic inequalities produced by capitalism’s climate catastrophes\, its effects on gender\, social relations\, and the dialectic of classes and nations. It demands we look at what is possible beyond what has already been. \nWe’re especially interested in non-Western poetic forms\, and work that explores non-Western perspectives on relations between empire\, colony and production. \n  \nWe invite poets to send up to 3 poems in one document through Rabbit’s Submittable site. Please include in the cover letter of your submission: \n• full contact details (postal address\, email) \n• 50-word max. bio \n• a short (50-word max.) response to the following: “What is the role of the poem in an era of decline?”

SUMMARY:PFN - NonBinary Review Seeking Submissions on: False Memories
DESCRIPTION:NonBinary Review is currently open for submissions on the theme of FALSE MEMORIES. \nFalse memories first came to public consciousness in the 1980s when a group of pre-schoolers at a California preschool were coached by well-meaning social workers and police investigators into “remembering” Satanic abuse that never happened. The fallout from that episode wasn’t just the persecution of an innocent family\, but a nationwide mass delusion now known as “the Satanic Panic\,” where authorities were warning the public about supposed widespread satanic cults committing heinous acts of abuse. Not a single one of these warnings were founded in fact\, and it is now known that a large number of them were propaganda. \nBut false memories aren’t always bad. There is a common phenomenon wherein people hear stories of their early childhoods so often that those stories turn into “memories.” It is common in dreams to have “memories” of things that happened to the dream self\, but not to the real self. Or a person might believe that they took their regular medication\, brought in the garbage bins\, or picked up the mail when they haven’t. \nWe’re looking for weird and wonderful stories of not just the memories themselves\, but of their production\, their repercussions\, their wider meanings. We’re looking for false memories that might have changed history\, that led to remarkable discoveries\, that impacted lives. \nWe’re NOT looking stories of recovered memories. Recovered memories are memories of real events that have been suppressed because they’re traumatic\, and are a widely disputed phenomenon. We would also like to avoid stories centering abuse\, trauma\, and violence. \nPoetry\nAll submissions must have a clear relationship to our theme and be submitted in 12pt Times New Roman\, or they will be rejected. Submitters may include up to THREE poems per submission\, but each must be a separate file. NonBinary Review pays a $10 flat fee for poetry. \nProse\nAll submissions must have a clear relationship to our theme\, and be double-spaced in 12pt Times New Roman or they will be rejected. NonBinary Review  pays 1¢ per word for prose with a limit of 3000 words. \nWe have different teams evaluating poetry and prose. If you submit to the wrong genre\, your submission will be declined.

SUMMARY:PFN - The Muleskinner Journal Seeking Submissions for Journal Eleven. Theme: Grounded
DESCRIPTION:For Journal 11:  \nWe are grounded. We walk slowly\, speak clearly\, open our senses\, accept beauty\, seek communion\, remain calm. \nYou are grounded. Saturday night will have to be “live” without you. It just ain’t fair\, and you can’t wait ‘til you can get out on your own. \nThey are grounded. It’s kind of like punishing yourself\, having the kids home all weekend\, but they gotta learn that some things ain’t okay. \nEveryone’s grounded. The planes won’t fly. Damn that weather. We were so ready to leave. \nGrounded. Grounded out. Ground up. Ground down. Rumors of an underground. The daily grind that grinds you down. The daily grind that perks you up. \nOur theme is grounded.\nIt’s where we start each day\, down on the earth\, on the ground but getting up\, comfortable in our skins\, ground zero for ourselves. \nOur wires are properly grounded\, but we still might be shocked. We might even like being shocked. \n  \nWe’ll be Grounded until July 31. Then\, who knows…

SUMMARY:PFN - Open Call for The Spoon Knife Anthology Series. Theme: Numbers
DESCRIPTION:Call for Submissions: Spoon Knife 9 \nAutonomous Press is now accepting submissions of short fiction\, short literary memoir\, and poetry for the ninth volume of Spoon Knife\, our annual genre-bending lit anthology. \nTimeline \nThe deadline for submissions is July 31st\, 2024. \nContributors will be notified of acceptance or rejection by the end of 2024. \nSpoon Knife 9 will be published in Spring 2025. \nTheme \nIn celebration of the ninth year of Spoon Knife\, the theme for Spoon Knife 9 is Numbers – stories in which numbers or counting or our relationship to numbers matter in some way. \nIs there safety in numbers? \nAre we defined by numbers? In what ways do your measurements\, your IQ\, your BMI\, your credit score matter? Can your existence be encoded as data? Why do we measure what we measure\, and how are these quantifiers used as a means of societal control? \nOr think of the Old Testament book of Numbers\, concerned with census taking. Who counts and who doesn’t count? \nNumbers as friends or enemies\, stories of dyscalculia or math savants; stories about rounding errors\, countdowns\, numerology; lucky or unlucky numbers; stories about lotteries or elections are all fair game. \nNumbers can be rational and irrational\, as can the contributions to Spoon Knife 9: Numbers. Authors are encouraged to interpret the theme broadly\, twisting and queering as needed. \nFormat \nAll submissions must be sent as Word documents (.doc or .docx files). \nProse submissions (fiction and memoir) must meet the following criteria: \n12-point Times New Roman font\, double-spaced.\nFirst line of each paragraph indented.\nNo extra whitespace between paragraphs.\nConsistent use of Oxford commas.\nThoroughly proofread and spell-checked.\nIf submitting poetry\, you may send up to 3 poems (please put them all in a single document). Poems should also be in 12-point Times New Roman font\, but do not need to be double-spaced. \nMaximum length for submissions is 10k words. Exception: You can assume this limit to be as flexible as you need it to be if you’re an author whom we’ve previously published or whose submission the editors have actively solicited. \nProcess \nEmail all submissions to sean [at] autpress [dot] com. The title of your email should be your name plus the words “Spoon Knife 9 Submission.” The body of your email must include a 1–4 sentence bio written in the third person\, with the exact name under which you wish to be credited\, no more than 150 words in length. \nOur process\, on acceptance\, includes a close copy-edit\, and we’ll check in with authors if it looks like there should be any change beyond basic typo fixes; we don’t send author proofs. \nSpoon Knife 9 will be co-edited by J.S. Allen and B. Martin Allen. \nPayment \nPayment for accepted submissions will be $20 plus 1 cent per word\, sent near the time of the book’s release.

SUMMARY:PFN - Call for Submissions to Icebreakers Lit: Hermit Crab Issue
DESCRIPTION:It’s summer and the hermit crabs are everywhere! In honor of their shelled and many-legged goodness\, the Icebreakers are requesting all submissions be hermit crab pieces. We’re open for CNF\, poetry\, fiction\, and that in-between stuff as long as it: \n1. is collaborative (two or more creators\, and if you don’t already have a buddy\, come play spin the bottle with us) \n2. borrows from an existing form (this is what makes it a hermit crab piece)! Send us a poem written in the form of a recipe\, a CNF in the form of a parking ticket\, micro fiction written as an astrology-a-day summary\, visual art that’s an ad for a strange toy\, etc. Whatever you want! Just make it hermit crab-y! \nAll general submission guidelines apply\, so give those a glance if you’re new here. As always\, don’t overthink it\, have fun\, get weird. \nCollaboration \nAt our minty liquid core\, Icebreakers is about fostering connection within the lit community. As such\, general and themed submissions should  be the work of two or more authors / artists (no max). If you’re coming to the party with collaborators already in mind\, great! If not\, please see our “spin the bottle” opportunity here (only available for artists that are 18+). \nWhat we accept \nIcebreakers is interested in poetry\, flash\, art\, fiction\, essays\, creative nonfiction (CNF)\, that weird little thing you wrote in your notes app but don’t know what to call\, etc. We want your art\, and we know that art comes in many glorious forms. We aren’t too picky about rules\, but to keep this reasonable\, here are a few requests: \n\nPoetry – Up to 3 pieces in any form\, any length\nFlash fiction\, micro\, and flash CNF – 3 pieces per submission\nShort fiction\, CNF\, and everything else – 1 piece per submission\, 2500 words or under\nJust make sure they’re hermit crabs!\n\nWe also accept simultaneous submissions. Just let us know if you’re published elsewhere so we can do a little celebratory dance with you. \nCover letter and bios \nWe love getting to know you\, but no need to be super formal. Most importantly\, please include the names of all collaborators. Also include a publication-ready bio for each contributor. One to three sentences should do the trick. If you would rather collaborate on a single amalgamated bio\, that’s cool\, too!
