SUMMARY:N - Call for Submissions to HerStry. Theme: Truth Be Told
DESCRIPTION:If we’re being honest with ourselves\, the story really would have gone like this… \nThere are always things we wish for\, things we hopped for or regrets we have about certain moments in our lives. With ourselves and with people we love. In January we’re looking for your stories about what you would have done if you were being honest with yourself. What you wish you had done or what you regret never having done. What is a truth about yourself that you’ve never yet shared? We are looking for your raw honest words\, even if they are harsh\, even if they paint you in a bad light. Even if they hurt. \n** HerStry is always happy to share stories anonymously—if your story is selected for publication\, simply let your editor know you would not like your name shared ** \nTHE RULES:  \n\nAll stories must be true and about you.\nStories must follow the theme in some way\, interpretations can be wide.\nStories must stay around 3\,000 words.\nDocuments should be double spaced\, 12Pt font with 1 inch margins and in an easy to read font. Submissions not following these guidelines are subject to disqualification. Our editors read a lot of work\, please have mercy on our eyes.\nSubmissions must be in .doc or .docx form—we do not accept PDFs.\nStories are read blind. Please DO NOT put any identifying material on your manuscript. Manuscripts that don’t follow this rule will be automatically disqualified without being read. We realize personal essays may contain your name; a first name is fine.\nPlease include a third person bio. Cover letters are fine\, but not necessary (we don’t read them\, we’re more interested in what you’ve written).\nPlease submit only once per theme.\nWe do not accept previously published stories.\n\nHerStry centers the experiences of women identifying persons. We’re looking for work from bigender/polygender persons\, cisgender women\, intergender persons/intersex persons\, nonbinary persons/gender non-conforming persons\, transgender women/transfeminine persons\, two spirit. In other words\, if you are a cis man\, please refrain from submitting. \n WANT PERSONALIZED FEEDBACK? \nYou can now receive helpful feedback by selecting the “personalized critique” option on our submissions page. While getting your work critiqued does not guarantee publication\, we can help make it great for your next submissions\, whether it’s to us or someone else. \n$3 submission fee goes toward keeping HerStry sustainable and paying our staff. All accepted pieces receive $20 payment. \n DUE DECEMBER 1ST

SUMMARY:PF - Meow Meow Pow Pow Seeking Submissions on the Theme: Wild Goose Chase
DESCRIPTION:theme: wild goose chase \nAre you pursuing an unattainable treasure or leading a horse down a winding road? Are the geese in the office park menacing you? Or are they protecting their goslings? Whether you’re a Mercutio who has lost a battle of wits or are racing toward a goal in V-formation\, send us prose and poems for Wild Goose Chase. Throw together some unwieldy words that refuse capture and submit the soft down of your tender moments to us. \nWe publish based on a rotating theme that lasts for three months. See below for the latest premise and the cutoff dates. We love surprising interpretations of our themes; we’re less keen on literal interpretations. That being said\, if we receive a piece that isn’t – in some way – reflective of the theme we’ll gnash our teeth and shake our fists at the heavens\, and then send you a wimpy rejection letter. Don’t make us do that – we hate that.  Length of the work: our sweet spot is between 150 to 300 words. Anything over or under\, we’ll be less psyched on. Poems? Let’s try to keep it under 25 lines\, bbz\, and no more than 3 poems per submission. We accept re-prints so long as you own the rights. Please indicate whether this is prose or poetry in your title or cover letter.  If you are rejected\, please wait until the next theme to submit. \nWe love unpublished writers just as much as we love published writers (sometimes even more so). MMPP is more likely to publish work that is provocative and invigorating rather than overly complicated pieces of pomposity. Excite us with your garden-fresh flash and titillate us with your gutsy poems. Let us home your vigorous words and create art to accompany them. And after we marry your wise wordery\, we’ll bring the lit to the great outdoors.

SUMMARY:F - Call for Submissions to Stone's Throw. Theme: Opulence
DESCRIPTION:The holidays are over\, and it’s time to get back on the straight and narrow. Easier said than done\, though. This month\, we want stories about overindulgence. Opulence. Living beyond your means. Whether that’s money\, drugs\, generosity\, or viciousness\, we want stories about people who overdo it\, and what happens when they realize they’re in a hole they can’t hope to fill. \nStone’s Throw will open for submissions from the first of every month. We’re looking for all the same dark fiction\, crime and noir as our usual submissions\, but with a target length between 1\,000 and 2\,000 words\, and aligned with the monthly submissions prompt (see below). We’ll read through the best\, choose the one story that shines brightest\, and publish it online the following month\, paying $25 per accepted story. \nAfter a year\, we’ll collect all twelve stories into a Stone’s Throw Anthology\, to be published alongside our other print issues. \nPLEASE NOTE — If you have been accepted within the calendar year for Stone’s Throw\, you are ineligible to submit again during that same calendar year. However\, we look forward to reading your submissions during our regular RHP Magazine open calls! \nAnd from the Department of Things We Never Thought We’d Have to Say Department: Anyone found to be submitting a story that uses AI or language modeling software will have their story instantly rejected; they will be banned for life from submitting to any other RHP open calls; and they will be the object of open public ridicule and scorn. Come on\, people — let’s not contribute to the eventual subjugation of humankind by the machines\, okay?

SUMMARY:P - Under the Radar Magazine Seeking Submissions on the Theme of Flight
DESCRIPTION:SUBMISSION GUIDELINES\nWe especially welcome submissions of new work by writers from diverse backgrounds who have been traditionally under-represented in literature and publishing\, and actively encourage women\, writers of colour\, LGBTQ+\, Disabled\, D/deaf\, and low-income writers to consider sending us their work. \n• Please only submit previously unpublished work. \n• Send up to six poems. \n• We accept submissions from anywhere in the world. \n• All submissions must be made online through our Submittable portal during our open submission dates (see opposite). Please contact us if you are not able to access Submittable online to arrange alternative method of submission. Please do not otherwise send your work to the Nine Arches Press email or postal addresses. \n• Please send work that responds thematically in compelling and surprising ways. The connection to the theme can be interpreted freely and does not need to be obvious\, so we encourage you to keep it curious! \n• Please do not make multiple submissions by sending work you have also simultaneously submitted to other magazines\, competitions or publications\, or by sending us further work to consider before we have responded to your first submission. \n• In addition\, please do not submit and then withdraw work once submitted. \n• Please only upload your submission attachment as a Word document. We no longer accept PDFs.  \n• Please include a cover letter with your full postal address\, as well as a short biographical note (in the third person of no more than 50 words). \n• Unfortunately\, we are not able to offer payment for poems or short stories selected for publication in the magazine but we do send a complimentary copy of the magazine and offer discounts on subscription for featured writers. 10 free magazine subscriptions for low income writers who do not currently have a subscription to the magazine are made available annually every September. \n• To ensure plenty of variety\, we do not feature the same poets in consecutive issues. Please allow at least six months before submitting to the magazine again if we have published some of your poems in the most recent issue. \n• We receive a high volume of submissions. Please allow at least 12 weeks from the close of the submissions window for our reply. We always respond to every submission.

Keep all poems to one file.  \nFiction or Nonfiction: Up to 2\,000 words. (If you’re a little over we won’t  hold it against you.) \nCreative Nonfiction: Up to 2\,500 words please! But just like our fiction and nonfiction baddies we won’t hold it against you if you go a smidgeon over.  \nGeneral things that apply to everyone: \nSimultaneous submissions are okay! We allow reprints/republish pieces if you either retain the rights to your work OR with permission from the original publication. \nPlease do not include your phone number or address in your submissions. We may ask for an address later for mailing purposes if you have been accepted into print projects. \nYes\, we are still finishing the last few copies from issue one. Life has majorly gotten away from us. Thank you for being patient with us.

SUMMARY:PFN - Conjunctions Seeking Submissions to Issue 84. Theme: We Love All We Voices
DESCRIPTION:William Burroughs hypothesized that language is a virus from outer space. Agree or disagree\, language does inhabit us just as we inhabit it. Language represents—and is—imagination in action. It dances in an everyday state of evolution and is the shared invention of us all\, whether we love\, loathe\, or have never heard of each other. We treat words with great care or with abandon. We are reckless with language\, sloppy\, incoherent\, liars. But words are truths in themselves\, precious\, each one special\, incandescent. No matter whether we realize what daily miracles they are\, they will always survive us\, gifts we pass down the generations. We Love All We Voices celebrates the languages of poetry\, fiction\, essays\, in all their glory\, with works by some of our most pioneering writers. \nConjunctions has always been language-centric. In that spirit we are also featuring a special portfolio edited by Trinidadian-American novelist Robert Antoni\, in which vernacular writing is explored as an agent of its own authenticity—open\, malleable\, subversive\, aggressively multi\, overtly political\, plenty rude\, and alive. Nowhere have English-based vernaculars proliferated so vociferously as in the Western Hemisphere’s first melting pot\, the Caribbean. Writings from this far-flung diaspora\, as much or more than any other\, make melody central to their meaning. Glossaries and footnotes are out; this cognitive and acoustic work must be accomplished in context. Perhaps most challenging of all\, until fairly recently\, there were few models to follow. Now they accrue with a vengeance: here\, for instance.\n\nSubmitting to Conjunctions\nPRINT ISSUE \nWe will accept submissions for our spring 2025 print issue\, Conjunctions: 84\, We Love All We Voices\, via Submittable from November 27 – December 15\, 2024. All submissions will also be considered for our weekly online magazine. \nNote: If you miss the Submittable window\, we are also open for submissions by postal mail year-round. Please see below for instructions. \nONLINE MAGAZINE \nSubmissions are open year-round by postal mail for our biannual print issues and weekly online magazine\, which is not subject to thematic restrictions. Please see below for instructions.\n  \nHOW TO SUBMIT \nSubmissions are open year-round by postal mail. To submit via mail\, please send your manuscript to our editorial office (address below) with a brief cover letter including your name\, address\, and email. In order to receive a response\, you must include a self-addressed envelope stamped with sufficient postage for our reply and for return of your manuscript (if requested). Do not send submissions by any delivery method that requires a signature. \n\n\n\nAddress mail submissions to:\nBradford Morrow\, Editor\n\n\n\nConjunctions\n\n\n\n21 E 10th Street\, #3E\n\n\n\nNew York\, NY 10003\n\n\n\nWHAT TO SUBMIT \nConjunctions publishes short- and long-form fiction\, poetry\, creative nonfiction\, and hybrid texts. We do not publish academic essays or book reviews. \nAll submissions must be in English and previously unpublished. We will consider works in translation for which the translator has secured the rights. \nAlthough we have no official restrictions regarding word count\, most of the manuscripts we select for publication are under eight thousand words long. For poetry submissions\, we suggest sending half a dozen poems\, depending on length. \nWe strongly suggest that writers new to Conjunctions read our recent issues to acquaint themselves with our publications. Subscriptions are available here.

SUMMARY:N - Call for Submissions to Friends Journal. Theme: Neurodiversity
DESCRIPTION:March 2025: Neurodiversity\n\n\n\n\nFast Facts \n\nFeatures run 1200-2500 words.\nQuestions? Email editors@friendsjournal.org\n\nLearn more general information at Friendsjournal.org/submissions. \nOur March 2025 issue will look at Neurodiversity. We know this is a very broad topic. Wikipedia defines it as recognizing “the diversity within sensory processing\, motor abilities\, social comfort\, cognition\, and focus as neurobiological differences.” Neurodiversity is typically likened to a spectrum and for good reason\, as everyone’s experience is unique. \nFirst and foremost\, we want to hear from neurodiverse Friends. If you’re new to Quakers\, what has drawn you in? Is there something about Quaker worship that works especially well for you? What has been your experience of Quaker process and business meeting and culture? We also want to know what doesn’t work. We realize that experiences can be very different person-to-person and meeting-to-meeting\, but are there specific adaptations that meetings could consider to better accommodate the needs of neurodiverse visitors? \nWe’re also curious about what Friends meetings and churches have already done to make themselves more accessible. This could be anything from setting clear expectations in worship to adapting First-day school programs to allow for more movement and fidgeting. What do families with neurodiverse members need from their Quaker meeting? \nFriends schools are another interesting case. There are a handful of Friends schools whose missions are to support learning differences (others have cited religious exemptions to refuse accommodations\, alas). For those who do serve neurodiverse students\, we’d like to hear how Quaker educational techniques have been adapted for that work.

SUMMARY:PFN - inScribe: Journal of Creative Writing Seeking Submissions for Issue 9 on the Theme of: Science
DESCRIPTION:Submissions for\n\n\n\n\nISSUE 09  //  THEME: SCIENCE are now OPEN \n\nSubmission Guidelines\n\n“Follow the science” – isn’t that what we’re told? Only what is science and how is it supposed to lead? Surely the human imagination runs ahead of science\, determining the questions and aims we consider important. And what of science and religion – are they really the mortal enemies we’ve been led to believe? C.S. Lewis suggested that “In Science we are only reading the notes to a poem; in Christianity we find the poem itself.” How is science poetic\, or poetry scientific? For one thing\, science without imagery remains mute: no waves\, fields\, or minds hard-wired. Poetry\, for her part\, without honest attention to the world in all its depths turns blind. Each holds Truth in highest regard\, while approaching from opposite ends. For our Feb 2025 issue of inScribe\, we are inviting new and creative explorations of the many and varied meeting points of science and imagination – so start theorising and get scribing! \nJOURNAL SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:\n \n\n\nTo be considered for publication\, your work must be submitted via our online submission form\, here: https://fs20.formsite.com/john1420/zg9d1wbpmu/index \n\n\nThe submission form will ask you to attach your work as a Microsoft Word document. No other file types will be read by our editing team. \n\n\nPlease ensure the attached file bears the same name as the title of your work and that it does not contain your name or identify you in any way. \n\n\nWe ask that you format your submission using a plain\, size 12pt font (e.g. Arial\, Calibri or Times New Roman) with 1.5 line spacing. \n\n\nIn preparing your work for submission\, take note of any advertised themes for our up-coming editions. \n\n\nBe sure to edit and proofread your work thoroughly prior to sending it to inScribe. \n\n\nYou may submit as many works as you like\, but please complete a separate submission form for each title (also bear in mind that sending multiple works does not automatically improve your chances of publication – quality over quantity is far more important). \n\n\nBe sure to observe the maximum length of 3\,500 words per story (fiction and non-fiction) and 50 lines per individual poem.

SUMMARY:P - Human Obscura Seeking Submissions to Their First Anthology. Theme: Blue
DESCRIPTION:2024 Humana Obscura Anthology\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheme: “Blue”\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur first anthology will focus on a theme of “blue\,” and however you interpret it—as the sky\, the ocean\, the shade of a particular flower\, or an emotion. \nWe’re looking for work that is nuanced\, raw\, and imagistic with strong elements of the natural world or hints to the human-nature relationship. We tend to favor work that is unexpected\, evocative\, yet subtle\, with a strong sense of place and strong imagery. \nWe prefer shorter works that use brevity to its advantage\, with simple formatting and uncomplicated language. \nPlease keep in mind the seasonal nature of the issue you’re submitting to. \nWe will not accept works created by robots\, such as those created using AI technology like ChatGPT or similar means. Your work must be wholly created by you. \nSUBMISSION GUIDELINES\nYou may submit up to 5 poems (or up to 10 haiku\, tanka\, or micropoetry 5 lines or less). Please include all poems in one document. \nWe publish poetry\, prose poetry\, micropoetry\, haiku\, and tanka. We prefer free-verse poetry that is accessible to readers\, is straightforward\, and avoids fancy language. \nWe opt for the less traditional\, Westernized style of haiku and tanka that does not follow strict syllable structures\, while honoring the haiku aesthetic and characteristics. \nWe do not publish experimental work\, and very rarely do we publish poems longer than one page. \nPlease edit your work before submitting. While typos aren’t enough to automatically reject your work\, it is important to submit your final\, edited piece(s). Upon acceptance\, we may suggest minor edits to your work. \nSubmissions. We only consider submissions sent through our online submission manager (Submittable). Emailed submissions will not be considered. Submissions must be accompanied by a brief third-person bio. Poetry submissions should be sent in a single document (.doc or .docx formats preferred). \nSimultaneous Submissions & Withdrawals. We accept simultaneous submissions\, but we must be immediately notified if a piece is accepted elsewhere. If you wish to withdraw one or several pieces from your submission\, please email us directly with the titles of the work(s) you are withdrawing. If you wish to withdraw your entire submission\, please use Submittable’s “Withdraw” option. \nIn keeping with the anthology’s theme\, a percentage of submission fees will be donated to Ocean Conservancy. Ocean Conservancy is a nonprofit environmental advocacy group based in Washington\, D.C.\, United States. The organization seeks to promote healthy and diverse ocean ecosystems\, prevent marine pollution\, climate change and advocates against practices that threaten oceanic and human life.

SUMMARY:PFN - Living our Blessings: Aging\, Mortality & Gratitude. A Wising Up Anthology Seeking Submissions on Aging\, Mortality & Gratitude
DESCRIPTION:LIVING OUR BLESSINGS\nAging\, Mortality & Gratitude\nA WISING UP ANTHOLOGY \nWe invite stories\, poems\, memoir\, and non-fiction that explore how\, in ways small and large\, our awareness of aging and mortality intensify our appreciation of our present (and past) in ways we never anticipated. \nAge is a strange place—filled with abundance and scarcity\, more fixed and more fluid than we imagined before we arrived there. Our bodies teach us it is now or never. We have passed our apogee and the arc of our life bends relentlessly earthward. But our hearts won’t stop growing\, expanding\, revising\, and revisioning—and we have to acknowledge that as well. Here the surprising questions are often positive. All that angst\, was it really necessary? All that will and drive—did it steer us in the right direction or did it narrow our focus unnecessarily? Has the love\, the good\, both momentous and minute\, we have experienced in our lives gone fully recognized\, born fruit\, multiplied? Savoring can become a call\, a necessary rebalancing of the scales. \nOne of the simplest ways to do so is just to open to the mystery of the mundane and our own participation in it. It is often so simple it shocks us: The way\, after twenty-five or fifty years together\, we remain such an intriguing surprise to each other we still can’t finish each other’s sentences. The way we can so vividly recall a decisive\, perhaps anguished\, moment in our childhood or middle age and see it fall into place in an entirely new\, more beneficent\, story. The way a minute on the porch listening to the cascade of cicadas can feel like a baptism. \nlivingourblessings@universaltable.org \nSUBMISSION GUIDELINES \nFOR ALL WISING UP ANTHOLOGIES\nPrint and Web \nWe make final editorial submissions on all submitted manuscripts only after the submission deadline.\nElectronic submissions only\, either Word or RTF.\nNO A.I. generated text. \nProse ≤ 5\,000 words. Poetry ≤ 5 poems.\nPayment in copies\nSubmit manuscripts electronically \nWe consider dual submissions and previously published work only if informed of this at time of submission.\nPreviously published work must be accompanied with a list of where and when it has been previously published\, including on the internet.\nWe do not pay reprint fees. It is the author’s responsibility to get needed permissions. \nA GENTLE REMINDER FOR WRITERS \nWe read all submissions with care because we value the time\, effort\, and aspirations of our writers. We ask that writers who submit show us the same consideration. Before submitting\, please read our Calls for Submissions carefully to make sure that the work you are submitting truly fits the theme in content matter and in tone\, for we are more than a literary press\, we are one with a clear social commitment to finding the We in Them\, the Us in You. We want work that has emotional depth and complexity and that invites us\, ultimately\, into wiser relation with each other. \nWe suggest you browse through our list of subjects and then our library and read excerpts from some of our other anthologies\,  as well as our mission statement  – A Welcoming Philosophy  – on the home page and our reasons for founding the Wising Up Press.  If you are interested in the Writers Collective\, we provide extensive information about that as well.

SUMMARY:PFN - In The Mood Magazine Seeking Submissions on the Theme: The Future
DESCRIPTION:Our last issue was out of the past… now we’re heading into the future. From sci-fi (A.I. Artificial Intelligence) to utopian/dystopian (Born in Flames)\, in places near (Her) or far (Solaris)\, for our 12th issue we’re looking for experimental criticism on any films\, TV\, or music videos set in or that engage with the future ✨ If you need some inspiration\, check out this comprehensive list! \n💡 Some topics and films we’d love to see pitches for: \n– Focus on specific sci-fi fashion\, food\, technology\, and/or architecture\n– Films set in the future (Robocop\, High Life\, Strange Days\, Gattaca) or near future (The Purge\, Ghost in the Shell\, Moon)\n– Apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic (The Happening\, Children of Men\, The Terminator\, The Falls (1980)\, I Am Legend)\n– Climate change/“cli-fi” themes (The Day After Tomorrow\, Silent Running\, Beasts of the Southern Wild)\n– Arthouse/experimental/video art (Planet Heaven (2022)\, Liquid Sky\, Ryan Trecartin\, Hito Steyerl)\n– Retrofuturism (Heart of the World\, Metropolis\, Death Race 2000)\n– Film technology (A.I.\, CGI\, 3D\, LED walls)\n– Aliens (Close Encounters of the Third Kind\, Attack the Block\, The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976)\, Under The Skin\, Nope)\n– Time travel (Arrival\, Edge of Tomorrow\, The Beast)\n– Music videos (Britney Spears – Oops!…I Did It Again\, Missy Elliott – Sock It 2 Me\, Backstreet Boys – Larger Than Life\, Lil Nas X – Panini\, Massive Attack – Voodoo In My Blood)\n– TV (Star Trek\, The X Files\, Westworld\, Severance)\n– Box office bombs (Event Horizon\, John Carter\, Battleship) \nKeep in mind we generally focus on films made post-1970. And you can check out our past issues to see if we’ve already covered your film! \nWhat we publish\nWe’re looking for writers with a distinctive voice\, who aren’t afraid of getting personal\, and who are curious about why we watch what we watch. We appreciate thoughtful analysis but also a playful tone; we want intelligent pieces that aren’t too full of themselves. We don’t think of ourselves as an authority\, but a confidante. \nHow to submit\n‍We strongly prefer completed pieces (max 1\,000 words)\, but we understand that writing on spec is not a realistic prospect for many writers. With that in mind\, we still accept pitches. \n👇 Please include:\n‍\n‍– Completed piece (doesn’t need to be perfectly polished!)\n‍OR if you’re pitching: a short paragraph on the piece (topic\, format)\n– Why you think this is a good fit for In The Mood\n‍– If pitching: 1-2 writing samples (they don’t need to be published)\n– Short bio or link to your website \nSend submissions & queries to:\ninthemoodmagazine@gmail.com \n

SUMMARY:PFN - Call for Submissions to All My Relations Volume 8. Theme: Honoring our Lost
DESCRIPTION:Submission Requirements\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe expect submissions to be on the theme of “honoring our lost” and submitted by BIPOC\, gender variant\, and/or disabled creatives only. \nWe require written submissions to be under 5\,000 words for fiction and nonfiction and under 5 pages for poetry\, submitted in a Word Document or text file. PDFs will not be considered and will be rejected outright. Submissions must be in English as\, unfortunately\, that is the only language we can read. Do feel free to add words in a language other than English and we will consult Google or other resources\, but the submission must be primarily in English. \nWe require that image submissions be sent at least 300 dpi and at least 3 inches by 3 inches. To be considered for cover art\, the image must be at least either 11.25 inches tall or 8.65 inches wide. We do not accept AI-generated work as it doesn’t fit in our definition of own voices. By submitting your work\, you confirm that the artwork is yours and yours alone\, does not make use of images that are not your own (or if you do use images that are not your own\, they are royalty-free and do not constitute the bulk of the submission)\, and was not AI-generated. \nWe require that you properly gender our editor. Any submission that misgenders will be responded to unread. If you wish to address the editor\, you can do so as editor\, The Bitchin’ Kitsch\, The B’K\, or Chris. If you wish to speak about our editor\, they use the pronouns they/them. \nWe will accept simultaneous submissions. Please let us know if it is a simultaneous submission (in the “Anything you want our editors to know about your piece” section of the form) and let us know as soon as you do if it has been accepted elsewhere and if you have permissions for it to appear as a reprint in this publication. \nOur form requires the following information: your name as you’d like it to appear\, the name of the piece as you’d like it to appear\, trigger warnings if necessary\, and answers to our identity questions. \nWe aim to have a diverse publication from a diverse set of voices. In order to make sure we do that\, we need to know who you are. We will not deny someone based on identity unless it is deemed that the submission becomes inappropriate or appropriation due to the submitter’s identity. Things that we would consider inappropriate or appropriation would include writing about what it’s like to be part of a historically marginalized community you do not belong to. We encourage people outside of the community to include people from historically marginalized communities\, but we won’t publish pieces that explain what it’s like to be part of those communities. We value inclusivity and believe the only way to do it right is with #OwnVoices. \nWe don’t want to read something that might be triggering without being in the right head space. We would hate to deny something because it caught us off guard at a bad time. If appropriate\, please include a trigger warning. Before you submit\, make sure that it will not violate our submission guidelines (see the full list below). \n\n\nGeneral Information & Volume 8’s Theme\n\n\n\n\nWe are not looking for graphic or traumatic stories or dark fictional pieces written for shock value. We do not require that you center your or your relations’ traumas. And we are not interested in the single story of harm and suffering. \nWe are looking for honest pieces honoring your lost loved ones\, commemorating memories and imaginations of ancestors you never met\, explaining rituals and coping mechanisms\, and envisioning a future where we accept and honor death rather than fear it. We are looking for pieces that honor your experience\, honor your journey\, honor your imaginations\, and/or aid in communal healing. \nWe have a set of guidelines for what we will or will not read or publish for the emotional well-being of our readers (internally and externally). Please review those guidelines (below) and only send us authentic\, own voices (if applicable) pieces that follow them. (The principle of own voices means that pieces that refer to marginalized groups and their experiences are created by people who share that identity. Pieces that follow the principle of own voices reflect the contributors’ own lived experiences and perspectives. Proximity to people with a lived experience is not a proxy for having that lived experience and will not be considered adhering to the own voices guideline.) \nWe do not accept pieces that use AI content creation\, including ChatGPT. AI content is plagiarism\, even though the systems have been formulated to modify the end result from the stolen materials just enough to be indetectable and circumvent copyright laws. AI copies existing works by existing creatives without their knowledge or consent. It is an inappropriate and inequitable tool for content submitted to All My Relations\, especially as\, at this time\, the person using it can’t track down and fairly compensate the original creators for their work. \nWe are committed to editing with an equity lens\, ensuring any edits are for clarity and not stylistic in nature. We are committed to never alter a writing style\, the intention of a piece\, or change the voice in any way. If we ever fail or come up short in this attempt\, please do let us know. \nWe are free to submit to and free to read. We will accept one written piece and/or piece of artwork per person. \nSubmissions are open and will close when we have reached 100 pages of content or January 5\, whichever comes first. To submit\, fill out our submission form (one piece per entry in the form). Be sure to read all of our guidelines below before submitting. \nBecause our issues often deal with mature topics\, our publication is open to creatives aged 16+ only.

SUMMARY:PFN - Please See Me Seeking Submissions Regarding: What If?
DESCRIPTION:We are Open for Submissions\nfor the Spring 2025 Issue #16 – What if?\n\nGeneral Guidelines\nWe seek previously unpublished\, creative\, and high-quality work in the form of poetry\, creative nonfiction/essays\, and fiction/short stories/flash fiction. Patients\, students\, family members\, caregivers\, nurses\, physicians\, healthcare consumers\, artists\, mental health providers\, physical therapists\, writers\, clergy—all of us will be patients one day and all are welcome to submit work. We are especially looking for content from vulnerable populations and those who care for them; content that connects us with every community\, makes us feel something\, helps us see illness\, wellness\, health\, or the healthcare environment differently\, and inspires equality in healthcare and the world. \n\nTheme Guidelines: What if?\nIn September of 2024\, I attended the Patients for Patient Safety World Patient Safety Day in Washington DC. This dedicated group of patient advocates and activists are working hard to push policy and change forward that protects patients and providers in our US healthcare system. The organization created a short video entitled What if? capturing personal stories highlighting how their health outcomes and lives were affected by healthcare systems that failed to deliver the appropriate care\, and which inspires the theme for 2025 Issue #16. \n\nWhat is your “What if?” or “If only…” related to your health-related stories.\n\nWhat if you had asked the next question of your provider even as their back was turned and walking out the door?\nWhat if you had taken the extra moment with a patient and not missed that diagnosis?\nWhat if you had asked for help in your third year of medical school? In residency?\nWhat if you had spoken up when you witnessed bullying or inappropriate leadership?\nWhat if you had told your partner you loved them before they left for work?\nWhat if you shared the joy you experienced when care did go as planned?\n\n\nThe canvas here is wide and deep and the theme is a jumping off point. Paint with the words and images that ring true to you! We look forward to seeing what our audience of writers\, patients\, physicians\, psychologists\, patient advocates\, artists\, and healthcare consumers have to say! Every one of your stories matter to us. We are listening! \nGenre Guidelines\nPoetry\nPlease submit a maximum of three poems at a time. If you submit more than three\, we can only read the first three. \nFiction\nPlease submit short stories no more than 4\,000 words in length. Flash fiction\, up to 1\,000 words\, is welcome and encouraged. Submissions should be double-spaced in 12pt Times Roman or other serif font with 1″ margins. We will look at excepts of longer works on a case-by-case basis; please query us with a description of your project before submitting if greater than 4\,000 words. \nCreative Nonfiction\nPlease submit nonfiction pieces no more than 4\,000 words in length. Submissions should be double-spaced in 12pt Times Roman or other serif font with 1″ margins. We will look at excepts of longer works on a case-by-case basis; please query us with a description of your project before submitting if longer than 4\,000 words.

SUMMARY:F - Blink-Ink Issue #59 Seeking Submissions on the Theme of Bad Science

Tell us what you know about Bad Science in stories of approximately fifty words. \nSubmissions are open December 1st\, 2024 through January 15th\, 2025. SUMMARY:P - Call for Submissions to Rattle. Theme: Food Poems
DESCRIPTION:Our Summer 2025 issue will be dedicated to poems about food. The poems may be any style or length\, but must be written about food in some way. We no longer publish essays\, but always include a contributor notes section\, where poets briefly discuss the relationship between food and poetry\, if there is one\, allowing for a wide array of perspectives to be shared. \nYou may submit up to four previously uncurated poems (or pages of short poems) at the same time\, either in a single file or up to four files. Do not include your name or contact info within the file content. Only make one submission (of up to four poems) to this category. We’ll reply a month or two after the deadline. \nRattle does not accept work that has been previously curated\, in print or online—poems may be self-published on social media\, blogs\, or message boards\, but cannot have been published in books\, magazines\, or similar collections open to the public. We want to be the first publisher to highlight the poems\, but never want to discourage anyone from sharing their poems themselves. For more on this\, read “Uncurated: The Case for a New Term of Art.” \nRattle does not accept work that has been predominantly generated by artificial intelligence. Poetry is a tool for expanding the human spirit\, which means poems should be written by humans. It is possible to use A.I. toward that aim in some cases\, so if used A.I. to assist in the writing process\, please explain in the notes to your submission. \nSimultaneous submissions are encouraged. If the work is accepted elsewhere\, just send a message through submission on Submittable to let us know. We don’t publish anything without your signature\, anyway; if another journal beats us to the punch\, congratulations!

SUMMARY:PFN - Cosmic Daffodil Journal Seeking Submissions on: Myth & Metaphor
DESCRIPTION:Myth & Metaphor\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Reimagine classical myths or create new ones that reflect current issues. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCreate a poem\, flash fiction/nonfiction (600 words or less) or short story (1000 words or less) with your own interpretation of the theme. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSubmissions must meet at least one  of the following criteria: \n\n\nRich\, layered symbolism that resonates with the mythological themes and speaks to modern issues on multiple levels. \n\n\nWell-rounded\, multidimensional characters who reflect the internal conflicts and transformations central to both myths and the chosen modern themes  (Fiction/Nonfiction). \n\n\nHaving an emotional impact that helps readers connect personally with the myth and its modern reinterpretation\, making the themes feel relevant and relatable. \n\n\nFresh\, thoughtful reinterpretations of the original myth that challenge conventional perspectives\, adding depth or an unexpected twist that makes readers rethink familiar stories. \n\n\n The story consistently develops the central themes of the myth (e.g.\, ambition\, hubris\, loyalty\, sacrifice)\, grounding them in modern parallels that reinforce the story’s purpose (Fiction/Nonfiction). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWriting Prompts: \n\n\nThe Rebirth of Prometheus\nIn ancient myths\, Prometheus brought fire to humanity\, symbolizing knowledge and progress. Imagine a modern Prometheus who defies the gods not with fire\, but with a digital “spark”—perhaps a powerful AI or a code that breaks down barriers of control. Explore the risks\, costs\, and transformative effects of this new “fire” on humanity. How does society react? Is this modern gift a blessing or a curse? \n\n\nPandora’s Algorithm\nIn the myth\, Pandora opened a box that released chaos into the world. In a modern twist\, reimagine Pandora as a developer or engineer who unleashes an algorithm or app that\, once activated\, begins unraveling hidden truths or flaws in society. Describe how this technology spreads\, what “evils” it reveals\, and whether there’s any hope left at the bottom of this new “box.” \n\n\nNarcissus and the Selfie\nExplore the story of Narcissus through the lens of our current social media culture\, where self-image\, validation\, and identity are shaped online. What would happen if Narcissus were reimagined as an influencer whose obsession with digital self-perfection leads to unexpected consequences? How does his reflection change him\, and what happens when that reflection is shattered? \n\n\nPersephone and the Climate Crisis\nRecast Persephone’s descent into the Underworld as a metaphor for our relationship with nature and the climate. In this retelling\, Persephone is pulled between two worlds—one that thrives with life\, and another that suffers. What role does she play in the story of a changing planet? What might a “return” look like in the age of climate action? \n\n\nThe Odyssey of Displacement \n   Inspired by Odysseus’s journey\, write about a modern “odyssey” that mirrors the struggles of today’s refugees or displaced people. Your character might embark on an epic journey across digital landscapes\, corporate worlds\, or bureaucratic systems. How do they endure obstacles\, and what “home” do they hope to find at the end of their journey? \n\n\nIcarus and the Limits of Innovation \n   In the myth\, Icarus flew too close to the sun\, causing his wings to melt. Reframe this story in the context of a technological race—whether with space exploration\, AI\, or biotechnology—where someone pushes past the boundaries of ethical limits. What parallels can be drawn about ambition\, hubris\, and the cost of “flying high”? What could the modern “sun” look like? \n\n\nThe Sisyphus of Success \n   Sisyphus is cursed to push a boulder uphill\, only for it to roll back down every time. In today’s context\, imagine a modern “Sisyphus” facing the pressures of capitalism\, career advancement\, or the hustle culture. Each time they reach a “summit” of success\, a setback forces them to start again. What drives them to continue\, and what might breaking the cycle look like? \n\n\nThe Digital Labyrinth of Theseus \n   Set in a sprawling tech labyrinth controlled by a giant corporation\, this Theseus must navigate a maze of misinformation\, social media algorithms\, or cyber-threats. With the help of a “digital thread” given by a modern-day Ariadne\, Theseus seeks to defeat the metaphorical Minotaur at the heart of this system. What does he discover about himself—and society—along the way?
