SUMMARY:PN - Chicken Soup for the Soul Series Seeking Funny Stories
DESCRIPTION:Laughter is the best medicine. And we love to publish your funny stories in all our books. Our books filled with nothing but funny stories are always bestsellers\, so we are doing it again. This edition will be for publication in 2025 but we’re already looking for those funny stories you tell again and again. The ones that make everyone laugh. \nWe are looking for stories about something that happened to you in your life – in your relationship with a partner or spouse\, a parent or child\, a family member or friend\, at work or at home that made you and the people around you laugh out loud. Did you mean for it to be funny? Did the other person mean to make you laugh? Did a situation just get out of control? Did a misunderstanding turn into a comedy of errors? We can’t wait to hear your true stories. We want them to be silly\, outrageous and hilarious\, and they absolutely must make us laugh! \nHere are some suggested topics but we know you can think of many more: \n– A slip of the tongue – Oh no\, I didn’t mean to say that!\n– Mistaken identity\n– Obsessions and Compulsions\n– Work whoops\n– Pranks that worked – Gotcha!\n– Pranks that backfired – Yikes!\n– Annoying habits – if you don’t stop doing that I’m going to scream!\n– Doggone funny\n– Getting catty\n– That was embarrassing\n– Happily ever laughter\n– Innocently inappropriate\n– What? I thought you said but you really said!\n– Senior moments\n– Wedding woes\n– Funeral foul-ups\n– Holiday hiccups and meltdowns\n– Kitchen/dinner party accidents\n– Sports catastrophes\n– Domestic turmoil\n– Dating disasters\n– Making fun of yourself\n– Crazy family fun and foibles: it’s all relative\n– Moving-day mayhem\n– Laughing at inappropriate times\n– I can’t believe I did that!\n– Travel turmoil\n– Zany vacations\nGuidelines for a Chicken Soup for the Soul story\n\nTell an exciting\, heartwarming or funny story about something that has happened to you or someone you know. Your story should be written in the first person and should be about yourself or someone close to you.\nTell your story in a way that will make the reader cry\, laugh\, get goose bumps or say “Wow!”\nThe story should start “in the action” and draw in the reader. Do not start your story with an introduction about what you are going to say\, or end with a concluding paragraph about what you just said.\nDon’t be afraid to speak from the heart. Many people tell personal stories for the first time in our books\, and they find it to be a cathartic and productive experience. We do let you use a pen name for your story if you do not want to use your real name.\nDon’t try fancy moves with tenses. Writing in the present tense about something that happened in the past rarely works.\nKeep your story to 1200 words or less. Tighten\, tighten\, tighten!\nYour story must be true. No fiction\, no creative writing.\n\nWhat a Chicken Soup for the Soul story IS NOT:\n\nA sermon\, an essay or eulogy.\nAn “as told to” story written by you for someone else. If you ghost-write a story for someone\, we thank you for helping that person share his or her story. That person’s name will be listed as the author and he or she can acknowledge your help in the bio section.\nA term paper\, thesis\, letter or journal entry.\nAbout politics or controversial issues.\nA biography or testimonial.\nA journalistic article about a third party that reads like a newspaper article.\n\nGuidelines for a Chicken Soup for the Soul poem\n\nWe love poems that tell a story. A Chicken Soup for the Soul poem does the same job as a story. The reader goes away having learned your story\, just through poetry instead of prose.\nWe do not publish poems that do not tell a story.\nWe also do not publish poems that seem overly focused on rhyming and read more like greeting cards.\n\nA few more tips about submitting\n\nThe only way to submit your stories or poems to us is via our website. If you have any problems when trying to fill out the form and submit your work\, please contact our webmaster at: webmaster@chickensoupforthesoul.com. Responses from the webmaster usually take several days\, so be patient.\nOur webmaster cannot help you with your personal computer problems. If you have questions\, such as\, “How do I paste my story into the submission form?” please ask a friend or relative\, not our webmaster.\nPlease submit only stories or poems that have not been previously published. The only exception to this is if your work has only been published in a small local publication with limited circulation or on your own blog.\nPlease do not send us any book manuscripts\, unless through a literary agent\, as these will be automatically discarded. Also\, we do not accept title ideas from the public. If we receive any\, they will be discarded and will not be shown to an editor.\n\nNOTE: WE DO NOT PAY FOR SUBMISSIONS. WE ONLY PAY FOR STORIES IF WE PUBLISH THEM IN ONE OF OUR BOOKS\, TYPICALLY 6 MONTHS TO 2 YEARS AFTER SUBMISSION. WE RECEIVE THOUSANDS OF SUBMISSIONS FOR EACH BOOK BUT CAN ONLY SELECT 101 STORIES FOR INCLUSION.

SUMMARY:P - Frontier Poetry's 2024 Nature & Place Prize. Theme: Nature & Place
DESCRIPTION:2024 Nature & Place Prize\nFebruary 22\, 2024\, to April 28\, 2024\nIn our pursuit of gentleness\, nostalgia\, and a reimagining of “home\,” Frontier Poetry is reviving the Nature & Place Prize. In her poem “Drowning Creek\,” Ada Limón takes us into the countryside\, “Past the strip malls and the power plants\, / out of the holler\, past Gun Bottom Road / and Brassfield and before Red Lick Creek\, / there’s a stream called Drowning Creek….” On her journey\, she has the strong urge to stop the car and observe the kingfisher perched on the transmission wire “eyeing the creek / for crayfish\, tadpoles\, and minnows.” She has aptly combined the urge to be in communion with nature\, with the visceral landscape of place observed from the loneliness of a car ride. In this same vein\, we invite you to submit work to the 2024 Nature & Place Prize. \nWe’re looking for poems rich and robust in language\, technique\, and form that pay homage to the natural world and all of the small marvels that occur in nature. We’re also interested in poems that observe geography and the landscape of home. Frontier Poetry warmly encourages poets of all backgrounds\, identities\, and ethnicities to enter. \nThe first-place winner will receive $3\,000 and publication. Second- and third-place winners will receive $300 and $200 respectively\, as well as publication. All shortlisted writers will also be considered for paid publication in New Voices. \n\nAbout the Guest Judge:\nFlower Conroy is a LGBTQIA+ artist\, NEA and MacDowell Fellow\, and former Key West Poet Laureate. Conroy’s books include Snake Breaking Medusa Disorder (winner of the Stevens Manuscript Prize)\, A Sentimental Hairpin (Eric Hoffer Finalist)\, and Greenest Grass (winner of the Blue Lynx Poetry prize). Her work has appeared/is forthcoming in New England Review\, American Literary Review\, The Yale Review\, and elsewhere. Currently she is curating a series of Ephemeral Altars that celebrate poetry collections through assemblage art. \nWhat Flower Is Looking For:\nWhen I initially heard the theme “Nature & Place\,” I had a confident (albeit vague) idea what that might mean; however\, the more I thought about it\, my sense of nature and place became excitingly less certain\, amorphous\, vast. I want (from these submissions) what I’d want from any poem: I want to encounter that which I didn’t know I needed to encounter; I want surprise of detail and syntax\, for a microcosm of a perspective and language (or languages) to flesh out a world I get lost in\, to be entranced by keenness of being and experience retold; I want nuance\, subtext\, and imagery to awe me. The theme of “Nature & Place” strikes me as abstractly concrete and concretely abstract—it conjures landscape\, yes\, but perhaps landscape as a presence in relation to a self or selves. It’s flesh and dirt\, past and future\, internal and external. I’ve no preconceived notions of what the poems should be beyond being visceral. \n\nGuidelines:\n\nSubmissions are open to all poets\, regardless of publication history.\nSend us only your best\, polished work—unpublished poems only\, please.\nAs part of our dedication to the pursuit of a more inclusive publishing world\, we are offering a free submission window for poets from historically marginalized groups at the beginning of the contest until we reach our cap of fifty. Please note the free portal will close when we hit our submission cap.\nPlease do not include any identifying information in the body of your document.\nWe accept simultaneous submissions\, but please notify us if your work is accepted elsewhere.\nWe ask for no more than three poems (five pages) per submission. Please submit all your poems in ONE document. We have no particular aesthetic or formal requirements and consider all styles of poetry.\nEach entry requires a submission fee of $20.\nMultiple submissions (of up to three poems apiece) are allowed\, but each requires a separate entry fee.\nPlease include a brief cover letter with your publication history and personal bio. Also include any content warnings in consideration of our reading staff.\nWork generated by AI will be automatically disqualified.\nSubmissions are open internationally\, to any poet writing primarily in English. Some code-switching/meshing is very welcome.\nPlease do not submit work if you have a close relationship with the guest judge.\nIf you have any questions\, please visit our FAQ page. If you don’t find the answer to your question\, email us: contact (at ) frontierpoetry (dot) com.\nThe deadline is April 28\, 2024. We plan to announce winners and finalists in Summer 2024.\n\n\nEditorial Feedback Option:\nThis option costs $59 and will provide you with two pages of detailed and actionable feedback on your submission\, including suggestions for future submissions. The $149 option will provide you with three letters from three different editors. Our guest editors are paid a significant portion of the fee and all are astute and professional poets. Please allow eight to ten weeks after the contest closes to receive your feedback letter.

SUMMARY:PFN - MQR Mixtape Seeking Submissions about Rage
DESCRIPTION:“We are dismissed as emotional. It is enough to make you emotional.” \n—Sara Ahmed \nMany scholars and artists have remarked on the importance of anger in art and everyday life. In her 1981 keynote presentation to the National Women’s Studies Conference\, Audre Lorde delivered the indicting line “anger is loaded with information and energy\,” reminding us that such anger should not be considered a source of shame\, but evidence of the injustices that “brought that anger into being.” \nThis issue seeks to hold space for the “ugly feelings” we are often told to tame\, to clean up\, and to quiet: our rage\, our annoyance\, our frustration. We aim to honor the wisdom of unruly emotions. We understand that feelings cannot be boxed and separated from one another\, and we acknowledge the muddling of it all. Rage with a side of grief? Anger with a dash of paranoia? Vexed yet anxious? We get it. Rage comes in different forms\, tempos\, and decibels and we want to amplify it! \nFor this issue\, we are looking for pieces that seek to express the complexities of such a charged emotion. We welcome expressions\, critiques\, and meditations on rage in a variety o\, and short fiction. We encourage perspectives that contextualize the social\, cultural\, and political realities of anger. Who is allowed to express their anger? How\, and when\, is rage a symptom of our social conditions and dispositions? What forces attempt to stifle such a resistance? We are looking for work that seeks to reorient our understanding of emotions and their function in “polite” society. \nFor this issue\, please submit:  \nProse: up to 4\, 000 words \nPoetry: up to four poems \nOnly previously unpublished work will be considered. Simultaneous submissions are permitted\, but please notify us immediately if your work is accepted by another publication. Please send only one submission per window; subsequent submissions will be rejected automatically.

If possible\, please attach each submission separately (i.e. three files for three poems). \n\n\nPlease also note: \n\nPlease do not submit work which is currently under consideration at other publications. This is purely to avoid any troubles if multiple publications select your work.\nPoets should not send more than three (3) poems for consideration at any time.\nProse writers can submit one or multiple submissions\, totalling no more than five thousand (5000) words.\nWhile we’re not a multimedia publication\, we do welcome experimental/contemporary written work. If your creative writing work is in another form (e.g. graphic novel)\, please insert “Other” into the subject field.\nAt this stage\, we regret to inform that SWAMP will not pay for submissions.\nAll submissions will be read and replied soon after the submission deadline.\nCopyright remains with the author of each individual submission. SWAMP only request the rights to publish your work indefinitely. SWAMP will not remove submissions from the website if and once published.\nAny submissions after the submission date will be considered for the following issue.

SUMMARY:F - Super Canucks: An Anthology of Small-Town Canadian Superheroes: Canadian Superhero
DESCRIPTION:Super Canucks: An anthology of small-town Canadian superheroes\nComing Fall 2025\nWe’re looking for stories from across Canada that push the usual superhero tropes while shining a spotlight on unique corners of Canada. We want stories set in and around the nation’s more often overlooked locales—isolated small towns\, remote reservations\, bedroom communities\, and other underrepresented areas of Canada. Give us rural superheroes\, backwater supervillains\, and tales of characters/communities at a crossroads. How does place impact your character? Are they unable to reconcile their superpowers with their residence or is it the people who pose the problem? Does your hero struggle to maintain a secret identity where everyone knows everyone or do they find that familiarity weirdly comforting given the challenges of being superpowered?\n\nSubmission Guidelines:  \n\nWord Count: 500-3500\nOur editors are based in Northern Ontario\, but our contributors can be from across Canada.\nCanadian characters living their ‘super’ lives while still retaining their national/regional identity/connection.\nStories that know the tropes and cliches—those applied to superheroes and Canada both—and either explore or subvert them.\nHeroes that reconcile their superpowers with the limits of their home—geographic\, political\, economic…heck\, tie in the weather—so long as they’re original characters with strong connections to specific parts/cultures of Canada.\nHave your protagonists face situations unique to our nation/their region thereof. These can be silly or serious\, inspired by reality or entirely fictional.\nTell us about everyday Canadians. Folks often excluded from mainstream literature—the ignored\, overlooked\, and undervalued. (Including cultures\, genders/sexual orientations\, ages\, economic groups\, and faiths.)\nGenre-busting tales are encouraged. A superhero mystery or an origin story couched as a romance. Submitted stories do not have to be about superheroes per say (tales of supervillains and anti-heroes are welcome)\, but should tie into that theme in some way.\nPlease avoid extreme violence\, unnecessary profanity\, and/or graphic sexual content.\nSubmission deadline: April 21\, 2024\nSubmit to: editor@latitude46publishing.com

SUMMARY:P - Rattle Seeking Submissions in a Tribute to Musicians
DESCRIPTION:Our Fall 2024 issue will be dedicated to poems written in response to prompts. The relationship between music and poetry is self-evident\, and we want to explore how music in the air in forms poems on the page. The poems may be any style or subject\, but must be written who have been professional musicians at some point in their lives. \nInclude a contributor’s note about your music experience and how it affects your poetry. We no longer publish essays\, but always include a contributor notes section\, where we ask in this case why you enjoy writing prompt poems. \nYou may submit up to four previously uncurated poems (or pages of short poems) at the same time\, either in a single file or up to four files. Do not include your name or contact info within the file content. SUMMARY:PFN - Compass Rose Literary Journal Seeking Submissions on Syncopation
DESCRIPTION:Guidelines\nPoetry \n– Submit up to 6 poems\, no length limits\, in one document (.doc or .docx) \nFlash Prose \n– Limit 500 words; submit up to 3 pieces\, max 500 wds each\, in one document (.doc or .docx) \nOur spring issue “Syncopation” marks our second year in publication and kicks off the first of four issues this year to contemplate the interplay between sound\, visual stimuli\, the written word\, and lived experience. In 2024\, we turn our lens to these multiform layers that dynamically shape our perception and expression alike. \nFor Issue 5 “Syncopation” specifically\, we invite contributors to explore the multitudes of this musical form and how it reflects back into our lives. On a literal level\, syncopation layers one or more disparate rhythm schemes into the same musical piece or segment. A syncopated rhythm can disrupt\, accentuate\, and/or obscure the initial theme\, bringing with it any combination of surprise\, whimsy\, color\, clarity\, confusion\, stark and/or complex emotion. What story do these layers tell? Where do we see and feel syncopation\, within and beyond music? How do we experience syncopation in everyday life\, society\, socially? How do we express this visually? \nThese are just a few initial prompts; we look forward to reading and viewing your own takes on this issue’s theme! \n  \nAuthors retain all rights \nWe encourage simultaneous submissions (please notify us if your piece is accepted elsewhere) \nWe consider previously published material; please label it as such \nWe particularly welcome submissions from traditionally marginalized voices\, including BIPOC\, LGBTQ+\, and the neurodivergent \nWe do not currently pay our contributors; we hope to in the future

SUMMARY:PFN - Usawa Literary Review Seeking Submissions on: Appetite
DESCRIPTION:Appetite \nPrimordial appetites – mother’s milk\, a father’s warm touch\, the flashy colours of a toy train\, the appetite to love\, the insatiable curiosity to delve into the mysteries of life. Before we know it\, our appetites turn subliminal: to belong\, to be\, to ignite passion. \nEpicurean\, sartorial or romantic\, how many walls should you scale before your appetite is satiated? What belief systems take away your very right to have the appetite to eat\, drink\, wear\, love\, be? Which insatiable appetites leave you\, or your character starving forever in silence? \nOnly royalty had the right to the tender succulence of jackfruit\, or to purple fabric. And isn’t there that infamous historical anecdote of the suggestion to have cake instead of bread that led to a revolution? \nWhat revolutions are brewing in you? Give in to your appetite to resist\, protest\, unsilence – without restraint\, without censorship. Gulp down this theme of appetite\, allow it to reveal the hungers within you. \nAnd then\, write to us with your stories\, poems\, and essays. We’re waiting\, famished\, for your literary works. \nGeneral Guidelines \nMandatory Contributor Form: Please fill this form for your submission to be read by the Editors. \nSubmission Format: \n\nPlease include “SUBMISSION” along with the genre you are submitting for in the subject line of your email.\nKindly send all submissions in a Word File attached to the body of the email. The text (except for poetry) should be double spaced\, utilizing the Garamond font\, sized 12.\nCompose your brief (~80 words) bio in third person within the email body of your submission. Please ensure to include your photograph and social media handles.\n\nSubmission Limitations: \n\nYou may submit up to one entry for each genre during a given submission period.\n\n\nAlthough we prefer exclusive submissions\, we understand if you choose to make simultaneous submissions. In such cases\, please clearly indicate this in your submission and promptly notify us if another publication accepts your piece before our review. To withdraw your submission\, kindly contact the sectional editor and the Managing Editor.\nPlease be aware that any work published in Usawa cannot be reprinted in any other publication\, whether online or in print\, until six months after the initial publishing date. After this period\, we request that you seek permission from and credit Usawa wherever the piece is republished by contacting our Managing Editor.\n\nPoetry:  \nPlease submit 4-6 poems to our Poetry Editor\, Babitha Marina Justin\, at babitha@usawa.in \nUsawa will be publishing unpublished poems only. However\, poems that have been shared on the author’s social media are acceptable. If you have previously published work that strongly resonates with our theme kindly share the same with the Editor stating why you would like the piece to be considered. The body of editors will review it collectively and take a decision accordingly. \nShort Fiction:\n\nSubmit short fiction of length up to 5000 words to our Fiction Editors\, Smita Sahay\, at smita@usawa.in and\, Kinshuk Gupta\, at kinshuk@usawa.in \nWhile we primarily seek literary fiction\, exceptional genre fiction is also welcome. \nNon-Fiction  \nSubmit non fiction of length up to 5000 words to our Non Fiction Editor\, Namrata Pathak\, at namrata@usawa.in. \nWe are looking for pieces that reflect honesty of the experience\, personal or from the point of witness. Show us the universality of the personal\, the ingredients that bind us all as human\, one. Vulnerability\, curiosity. An evident love for the language\, care for the sentence and structure\, and attention to detail. We do expect pieces to reflect craft but give us authenticity to go with it. Simply put\, we may pick a piece that is honest over one that glorifies technique. \nIf addressing a topical issue\, consider contacting the editor for timely consideration.

And if your piece appears anywhere after that\, please acknowledge that it was first published in Snapdragon: A Journal of Art & Healing (or “Snapdragon Journal”).  \n\n\n\nWhat We Value\n\n\nWe are a small\, independent lit magazine\, run by volunteers\, that is open to writers and readers of all nationalities\, creeds\, races\, genders and spectrums\, sexualities\, and religions.  \nWe publish emerging and established writers and we are particularly interested in publishing historically marginalized voices and making space for belonging within publishing and storytelling.   \nWe believe that poetry and literature can seem for the elite and be overlooked as a dynamic tool for connection to the self and others. Therefore\, we are proud to be a platform that lifts voices aimed to share vulnerably and honestly knowing that speaking truth heals.  \nWe do not tolerate\, publish\, or promote hate speech\, racism\, or bigotry. \nWe are not responsible for the views of others and we use our platform to shine light on all aspects of life and those within our world.

SUMMARY:PFN - Call for Submissions to Pangyrus Lit Mag. Theme: Left Unsaid
DESCRIPTION:Some of the work we accept will appear in our 12th print issue (Winter 2024-2025)! The theme for the issue is “Left Unsaid”. We like the phrase’s suggestion of mystery\, innuendo\, high stakes\, and emotional conflict. Sometimes what’s left unsaid is the cause of pain\, sometimes it’s the source of power. \nPoetry\nWe are interested in showing the range of poetry that exists in the contemporary moment.\nFirst and foremost\, we publish poetry in a wide range of styles and voices that moves us deeply and has us see the world in a new way. \nPlease send a maximum of 3 poems contained within a single document.  Because our volume of submissions is high\, we ask that you submit only once per reading period. \nFiction\nWe are looking for well-crafted\, thought-provoking fiction. Stories that are original\, passionate\, and surprising\, with strong narratives and an implicit understanding of people interacting with each other win us over. The tastes of our editorial team are far-ranging and eclectic. We welcome any and all work that displays the rare gift of storytelling\, that pulls our readers into the narrative and holds them there until the end. New voices and diverse voices are also a keen interest of ours. \nWord count: Submissions should be a maximum of 7\,500 words. Because our volume of submissions is high\, we ask that you send only one submission per reading period. Please\, no previously published work. \nNonfiction\nWe are looking for high-quality nonfiction writing that connects exciting ideas\, tells a compelling story\, and offers a fresh perspective.\nWe favor two kinds of submissions: short\, focused essays between 600 and 1500 words\, and longer\, more reported features of up to 7\,500 words. Please send only one selection at a time.

DESCRIPTION:Submissions\nCall for Submissions: illiterature. issue 10. a Collaborative Asemic novella.  \n \nFor the 10th issue of illiterature. we’re seeking work that is without the smallest unit of meaning. \nWe’re hoping to create a cohesive\, yet varied collection of asemic work that can be seen as a collaborative novella. Will each author’s work be considered a chapter? Will an author’s work be scattered throughout the book? How will an asemic chapter differ from a stand-alone asemic poem? Will it differ? Does it need to? Will asemic comic strips fit in the collection? What\, if anything will hold the collection together? These are only a few of the questions we’re asking ourselves right now. We’re eager to find out some answers! \nWe are open to submissions of all types of work\, asemic poems\, collages\, comics\, asemic prose… we especially encourage submissions that are hard to place elsewhere\, be it concrete\, visual\, conceptual\, or minimal. \nPlease note: illiterature. is a journal of collaboration. We’re not sure what’ll happen yet\, but we ask that contributors be open to having their work played with in new and unexpected ways. If you’re dead-set on your work appearing in a certain way\, this may not be the journal for you. Please familiarize yourself with our work. SUMMARY:FN - Griffith Review Seeking Submissions on: Status Anxiety
DESCRIPTION:GriffithReview 85\nStatus Anxiety\n\nLike the answer to a riddle\, status is all around us\, but it can’t always be seen or heard. The silent switchboard behind our professional and personal interactions\, status dictates our place on the guest list\, in the room\, at the table; through its connections to class\, race and gender\, it affords some of us power and wealth and others empty promises. But why does status so often go unnoticed? How does it influence everything from social inequality to personal relationships? And what changing forces have come to bear on the high or low status we’ve ascribed ourselves and others over the centuries? \nThis edition of Griffith Review grapples with the fallout of our status anxiety and explores what happens when we don’t measure up. \nWe’re looking for non-fiction and fiction that responds to the theme. We want pieces that are no longer than 4\,000 words (they can\, of course\, be much shorter than this). \nAttention poets – We’ll be opening a separate poetry call-out on 22 April – keep an eye on our social media and newsletter for more details soon. \nSubmissions open: Monday 4 March 2024 \nSubmissions close: 11.59 AEST on Sunday 14 April 2024 \nPublication date: August 2024 \nWe’ll let you know the outcome of your submission within eight weeks of the closing date.

SUMMARY:PFN - Terrain.org: Online Environmental Magazine of Literature and Place Seeking "Climate Stories in Action"
DESCRIPTION:By some research estimates\, 98 percent of climate and environmental reporting is negative. Climate stories tend to focus on the overall issue and impact by explaining climate science or consequences. Very few focus on action or offer examples of what successful and inspiring collective climate action looks like. \nPsychologists have been studying how stories about climate change affect people. They tell us that the doom and disaster narratives that dominate newsfeeds often lead us to withdraw\, shut down and feel isolated. Stories about climate solutions and actions do the opposite. Narratives and art that center solutions\, introduce us to everyday climate heroes\, and showcase the joy discovered through community engagement often lead to feelings of agency and possibility. \nThe “Climate Stories in Action” series will expand our vision of climate activism and help people imagine meaningful ways to be involved. We are inviting storytellers to submit poetry\, nonfiction\, and fiction that showcase climate activism in professional\, civic and community life. We are interested in stories that help shift our cultural mindset from despair to creative possibility and from isolation to collective purpose. \nWe welcome submissions about how being a part of this critical climate movement can help us live better\, more meaningful\, lives. We are interested in stories that help us dream about what is possible\, that bring to life why collective action matters\, and that inspire people to find or redefine their roles in the climate movement. \nThis groundswell of new climate stories—narratives and art that people can see themselves in—is essential to building the collective response needed at this hingepoint for humans and the planet. \nSubmission Period and Payment\nPriority submission deadline is April 8\, 2024\, at midnight. Notifications will be made beginning in May 2024. \nFrom those submitted\, a review committee will select 12 pieces for publication in the “Climate Stories in Action” series. \nAll contributions will receive $200. There is no entry fee to submit. \nGenres\nOriginal\, previously unpublished submissions will be considered for the following genres. You are welcome to submit pieces in more than one genre\, but do not submit more than two submissions until you have heard back from us. \nPlease include a cover letter containing your brief bio with your submission\, and indicate whether your submission is poetry\, nonfiction\, fiction\, art\, video\, or mixed media/genre/hybrid in the cover letter. \n\nPoetry need not follow any particular form. Submit from one to six poems of any length in a single document. We also consider poem/image combinations. Photos or other graphics may be inserted into the document\, but if accepted will be requested as separate files.\nNonfiction may include creative nonfiction\, personal essays/memoir\, photo essays\, and other essays or articles\, which need not follow any particular style. Accompanying resource links\, graphics\, and sidebars are encouraged. Photos or other graphics may be inserted into the document\, but if accepted will be requested as separate files. 5\,000 words maximum.\nFiction including short stories\, excerpts from unpublished novels\, flash fiction\, and other forms of fiction will be considered. 5\,000 words maximum.

SUMMARY:PN - Tiny Spoon: a bite-size experimental literary magazine: Celestial eclipse!
DESCRIPTION:As we embark on our twelfth issue amid the spring of a solar eclipse\, we turn our attention to the vast expanse and endless awe that is our celestial ceiling. We sojourn into soft\, vacant space\, illuminate with drifting\, cosmic light. How are we connected – to ether\, each other – as we witness again our midday sun become nothing more than a corona of light embracing our lunar sister? What fragments of light reach us? \n“Humans became human when they started looking up” – a Delphi tour guide told us this when we pondered the mountain peaks from afar\, speaking of celestial abyss we wonder about the explosions and ruptures which catalog our dreams above our very heads as we turn\, in our own moments of stillness\, on an Earth with such mighty force we do not notice\, yet it rules everything surrounding everything. Magic! \nAstronauts ponder the depths of the space belly illuminating the galaxy\, the velvet frontier of meaning. Planets aligning\, lunar energy moving ripples upon the water and shifting the whole of the galaxy. Moons clinging to the bellies of planets like dear companions. Companionship and space as a relationship to the offerings of potential. The galaxy is a soup and the planets are the bobbing meatballs. \nEclipse is the hovering of two beings meeting in a dance of universe\, blocking\, occultation of two bodies rupturing the sight line before your eye. Shadowing of the sun\, veiling the bride of life in an obscure darkness. The atmosphere is a blanket of time. \nCelestial bodies held in orbit around one another. What are our gravitational pulls? What kismet and timing allow for one to shroud the other so that a halo of light might frame the moon? What does this mean for other moments that feel cosmic? For moments that might be in alignment / misalignment / disalignment? What might be other natural or forced altered perspectives? \nWe want your whimsy\, spaced-out dreams\, your illuminations and darkness. We want your astrological projections and zodiac antics. We want your universe unveiled within Issue 12 CELESTIAL ECLIPSE. \nWHAT WE LOOK FOR:\nHere at Tiny Spoon\, we are especially interested in experimental work\, although not exclusively. If you’ve had trouble finding a home for your work because it doesn’t fit into generally recognized categories\, chances are your home is right here with us. \nWe seek work that pushes the boundaries of conventional genres; work that is daring\, experimental\, innovative\, quirky\, thoughtful\, vulnerable\, electric\, eccentric. In other words\, your inner workings expanded and exposed\, raw and immediate; your fragile soul parted at the seams into our bound paper glossary of tiny wonder. Your voice is beautiful\, edgy\, infinite\, and unique\, and we want to raise it. \n\n\n\n\n\nSUBMIT\n\n\nPlease submit through our official form. Only those submitted here within the open call for submissions will be considered. \n\n\n\nGUIDELINES:\n\nFormat text: sent as .doc\, .docx\, .rtf\, or .pdf\nArt: .jpeg or .tif\nPlease label the file “Last Name_Title of Work”\nLength per piece: 1\,000 words max\nFont: 12 pt Garamond or a similar font\nUp to three pieces per submission. Any additional work after the first three will not be reviewed. Please refrain from inserting text submissions directly into the body of the email.\nPlease limit to one submission per issue.\nSimultaneous submissions allowed. Please let us know if it is published elsewhere.\nSubmissions are free!\nPlease provide a one sentence bio about yourself.\nCover letters are not required\, but you may send one if you’d like. We won’t show preference based on this.\nYou will maintain the rights to your work; if it is published elsewhere or in a collection\, we simply ask that you give us credit for first publication.\nSubmitted work will be considered for our print and/or online blog\, which allows us to accept more submissions since print space is limited.

SUMMARY:PFN - Sinister Wisdom: A Multicultural Lesbian Literary & Art Journal Seeking Submissions for The Music Issue
DESCRIPTION:Did the sounds of women’s music at your local coffeehouse or a house party encourage you to come out? Did you break up with a lover to the sound of women’s voices? Were you raised listening to women’s music or attending women’s music events? Did you wonder why Aretha\, Gladys\, and Chaka weren’t considered women’s music? Do you understand women’s music as pedestrian\, thrilling\, conservative and/or a site for resistance? \nThis upcoming issue of Sinister Wisdom will be a holistic retrospective on the women’s music cultural movement. We invite contributions that both reflect and shed new light on the complex herstories of the women’s music movement—joys\, sorrows\, triumphs\, challenges\, and lessons. This is an explicitly trans-inclusive issue that welcomes submissions from people of all genders and walks of life who have experiences with the women’s music movement. \nSome topics of interest for this issue include: \n\n\n\n\n\nWomen’s festivals and other sites of performance\n\n(e.g.\, festivals in the Southern states\, coffeehouses\, bookstores\, restaurants)\n\n \nThe women’s music industry\n\n(e.g.\, technicians\, producers\, record labels\, and record distribution systems)\n\n \nExperiences hearing women’s music outside of traditional performance venues/spaces\n\n(e.g.\, first encounters with women’s music in a friend’s living room)\n\n \nBIPOC experiences in the women’s music movement\nDisabled experiences in the women’s music movement\n\n(e.g.\, Deaf and HoH experiences with ASL interpreting at concerts\, lived experience with DART\, OASIS\, and similar programs throughout the years)\n\n \nTrans experiences in the women’s music movement\n\n(e.g.\, trans men and women at festivals and in women’s musical community\, transmasculine performers with histories in the women’s music movement\, experiences of genderqueer teens)\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nPublishing since 1976\, Sinister Wisdom works to create a multicultural\, multi-class lesbian space. Sinister Wisdom seeks to open\, consider\, and advance the exploration of lesbian community issues.\nThe deadline to submit is April 1.
