SUMMARY:PN - Bleating Thing Magazine Seeking Submissions on: Gaudy Infinitesimal
DESCRIPTION:SUBMISSIONS ARE\nOPEN\nfor ISSUE 03:\nGAUDY INFINITESIMAL\n\nFOR THIS ISSUE\,\nwe are seeking work that luxuriates in petite miracles;\ncatalogues of tiny happinesses; the captured essence of little treats. \nwe’re seeking work that celebrates the small things\nworth living for. \n\n\ncontent\nguidelines\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBleating Thing is a magazine of poetry\, essays\, and printable hybrid work. At this time\, we do not publish fiction.\nWhile we prefer essays to memoir/CNF\, we recognize that these lines often blur. If you feel your piece has a strong perspective or theme that emerges in a dialectic way\, you may submit in the essay category with the understanding that we will consider it as such.\nPlease read our “About” page and at least one issue of the magazine prior to submitting work.\nWe favor the visceral marginalia. While we understand this may (perhaps\, even frequently) include the grotesque\, we do not publish gratuitous depictions of sexual assault\, violence\, or self-harm.\nWe do not tolerate bigotry of any kind.\nWe do not accept previously published material\, unless the previous publication is out of print and no digital archive exists. (This excludes personal social media or portfolios.)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nsubmission\nguidelines\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou may submit one packet per category during any given submission period.\nPlease do not include any identifying information in the submission document.\nSubmissions will be accepted from midnight the morning of opening day and until midnight in the evening of the closing day of each submission period. Anything sent outside of those dates will be ignored.\nSubmissions by form are preferred for organizational purposes\, but you may also email bleatingthingmag@gmail.com. If emailing\, please include the genre(s) of your submission in the subject line of the email.\nSimultaneous submissions are accepted! Please just indicate when submitting which piece(s) is/are simultaneous submissions and notify us ASAP if you’ve been accepted elsewhere (so we can cheer you on).\nCover letters are not required with submission (however\, if you include a lamb emoji in the cover letter field of our submission form or in the body of your email\, you will receive a virtual forehead kiss from our mascot lamb).\nAuthor/Artist bios will be requested upon acceptance.\nWhile some responses may come sooner\, all decisions will be sent about 2 months after the end of submission period.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nupon\npublication\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBy publishing with us\, you consent to have your work reproduced digitally (including for use in promotional graphics) & in print. For visual artists\, this may include having your image manipulated and/or color treated for promotional materials only.\nOnce the issue is live\, all rights to published work(s) revert to you\, the author. All we ask is that you acknowledge us as the original publishers of your work.\nEach contributor will receive a print-ready .PDF of the issue.\nIn the interest of accessibility\, any print issues will be sold at cost. This does mean that at this time\, we are unable to provide contributor prints.\nIf accepted\, we ask that you wait one year from the postdate of your accepted submission before submitting again (for example\, if you submit in the winter for publication in the spring and are accepted\, we ask that you wait until winter the following year before submitting again).\nOur issues are formatted in A5 (5.83 x 8.27 inches).\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\npoetry\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSend up to 3 poems in a .doc\, .docx\, or .pdf file using the form.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nessays\n\n\n\n\nSend up to 1500 words in a .doc\, .docx\, or .pdf file using the form.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhybrid\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSend up to 3 pieces blending multiple forms (e.g. collage poetry\, collage essay\, essay with poems in the footnotes\, poem with an essay in the footnotes\, etc.) in a .doc\, .docx\, .pdf\, or .JPEG file using the form.

SUMMARY:PFN - Call for Submissions to NonBinary Review. Theme: Mistaken Identity
DESCRIPTION:NonBinary Review is currently open for submissions on the theme of MISTAKEN IDENTITY. \nHow often have you waved to a friend across a room\, only to realize the person you waved to isn’t who you thought they were? These benign little episodes of mistaken identity can be laughed off\, but there are so many times and so many ways mistaken identity can be humiliating\, criminal\, traumatic\, life-altering\, transforming. Whether you are the one who made the mistake or the one who is being mistaken for someone else\, there are so many ways it can happen\, and so many ways to respond. \nWe want your weird\, wonderful\, bizarre\, impossible stories of mistaken identity. We don’t want “I accidentally met the love of my life because I mistook them for my friend” stories. More like “I accidentally stopped the Earth from being blown to bits because I mistook the alien invaders for mosquitos and sprayed them with bug spray.” We want to be captivated by the unlikeliness of a story that probably could never really happen. \nIMPORTANT NOTICE\nZoetic Press does not accept AI generated content. If our editors judge that your content is AI-generated\, it will be declined. \nIf your work was accepted for Issue #37: False Memories or Issue #38: Rituals\, we’re sorry\, but we cannot accept your work at this time (see our general guidelines.) \nWe have different teams evaluating poetry\, and prose. If you submit to the wrong genre\, your submission will be declined. \nPoetry\nAll submissions must have a clear relationship to our theme and be submitted in 12pt Times New Roman\, or they will be rejected. Submitters may include up to THREE poems per submission\, but each must be a separate file. NonBinary Review pays a $10 flat fee for poetry. \nProse\nAll submissions must have a clear relationship to our theme\, and be double-spaced in 12pt Times New Roman or they will be rejected. NonBinary Review  pays 1¢ per word for prose with a limit of 3000 words.

SUMMARY:PFN - Blood & Bourbon Seeking Submissions on the Theme: Ocean
DESCRIPTION:A drop in the ocean\n\n\nWith the year soon coming to a close\, we have decided to give our loyal followers a bit more time to write and submit pieces for the new issue. I think we all need a bit of time to take care of ourselves after a tumultuous\, fast-paced year that was 2024. \nIn a way\, this year has been much like the ocean: calm and welcoming one minute\, yet capricious and unpredictable the next. The ocean\, though\, is always trying to lure us back to its depth\, but we are careful not to overstay our welcome in this vast unknown. Are you tempted to discover what secrets the waters hold or do you feel safer with your feet planted in the sand on shore? Do you go to the harbour for loud parties with like-minded strangers or to find solace and peace? \n\nSubmissions\n\n\nBlood & Bourbon is here to showcase all things hard\, gritty\, and raw. That time you got in a bar fight\, that time you went to an S&M club\, that time you had an opinion that sparked a heated argument over a family dinner. We’re actively seeking submissions in the following categories: \n\nShort fiction or non-fiction\, 5000 words or less\nOpinion pieces or essays on any subjects\, 5000 words or less\nPoetry\, up to three pieces per submission\nBlack and white photography and illustrations.\n\nWe accept simultaneous submissions and reprints. We provide author copies upon request with a small donation of $5. \nWe are now open for submissions until January 31\, 2025. The theme of the next issue is Ocean. \nWe’re interested in diverse voices and want to hear from you regardless of what you look like\, where you’re from\, what you believe\, who you like to fuck\, et cetera. \nSend your material to bandbsubmissions (AT) gmail.com. Your submission should be attached as a .doc\, .docx or .rtf file\, with your name\, address\, email address\, the story title (if applicable) and total word count at the top of the first page. Include a 50-word bio in the body of the email or in the Word doc. \nOur Process\nWe will send you an email at the end of the submission period\, letting you know if your work has been accepted. Please don’t expect to hear from us sooner\, but let us know if your work has been accepted anywhere else during this submission period. We accept about 30 submissions per issue. \nWe then assign one of our editors to work with you to polish your submission and apply our house style guide. Keep in mind that we are a Canadian publication\, so Canadian spelling will be applied to all work. Editing phase usually lasts about 2 months. \nOnce we receive all the final documents from our editors\, we’ll work on layout. You will have a chance to see and approve the print proof before the launch of the issue. Layout and proofreading phase takes about a week. \nWe will share the links to the issue with you\, so you can spread the word to your peers and followers. We currently publish on Amazon and Kobo\, in print and e-book format.

SUMMARY:PFN - After Happy Hour: A Journal of Literature and Art Seeking Reprints from now-defunct markets
DESCRIPTION:Even an excellent literary magazine doesn’t necessarily last forever. There are quite a few journals the After Happy Hour editors used to read (or were published in) that now no longer exist–and that’s a shame\, because they published great stuff that people should still be able to read. \nWe’d like to help fix that with a special online issue dedicated solely to work that was published in now-closed markets. What we specifically mean by that: \n\nFor print publications: They are no longer publishing new content in any format and past issues are no longer available for purchase directly from the publisher (or will be unavailable by May 2025\, for print journals that just announced their closure).\nFor online publications: Either a) the website is inactive\, or b) the journal has shown no signs of activity on their website and social media accounts for 3+ years\n\nAny creative work that was published in a journal that meets one of those qualifications is eligible for this call. This includes stories\, poems\, and personal essays\, along with hybrids and mixes of the above. We’re interested in works from any and all genres\, and especially in ones that blend\, blur\, or fall between genres. \nWe are only looking for reprints for this call. Unpublished work will be rejected unread. If you have unpublished pieces that fit our current contest theme (Food) you can submit them on that form. Otherwise\, please wait for our next unthemed open call\, which will open March 1st\, 2025. \nAll work selected for this issue will be paid a flat rate of $10 per piece. The reading period will be open concurrent with this year’s contest\, from November 1st\, 2024 through January 31st\, 2025. \nGeneral submission guidelines \nPoetry: no line or word limits. \nFiction: We have no hard word count limits\, though we are unlikely to publish something of novella length. \nCreative nonfiction: We are specifically looking for lyric or narrative nonfiction\, not scholarly essays (though if you’re using the tropes of scholarly essays within the context of a personal essay\, that we do want to see). \nSuites: Send up to 5 linked works that will be considered as a set. Individual works within a suite can be poems or flash or micro-length prose (under 1\,000 words each). \nHybrid/Cross-Genre: Yes\, please. Follow whichever of the above guidelines makes the most sense for your work. \nFor all submissions: \n\nPlease include a brief (100 words max) 3rd-person bio with your submission.\nTo limit editor bias\, we read all submissions anonymously. Please remove your name and contact information from the document (including the headers\, top of the first page\, under the title\, etc.) before submitting it.\nUse standard manuscript format (11- or 12-point font like Times New Roman\, double-space prose/single-space poetry\, etc.). We won’t reject you for weird spacing or a bad font (probably)\, but following this standard makes things easier to read\, and that makes the editors happy. Poets/experimental prose writers have more liberty here if the non-standard formatting is used for formal or stylistic reasons. Straightforward prose writers have no excuse.\nWe accept submissions only through Submittable. Submissions sent to our e-mail will be deleted unread.\nSimultaneous submissions are accepted\, just please withdraw your submission if it’s accepted somewhere that would prohibit After Happy Hour from publishing it (e.g. a market with a post-publication period of exclusivity).\nMultiple submissions are accepted.\nIf you need to withdraw a longer prose piece\, or an entire packet of poems or flash prose\, you can choose the “withdraw” option on Submittable. To withdraw a single poem or flash piece from a packet\, you can message us through Submittable or e-mail us (afterhappyhour [at] gmail [dot] com).\nAccepted submissions may be edited for grammar. All changes will be sent to the author for approval before publication.\nWe request one-time publication rights (we can publish your work once) and non-exclusive electronic archive rights (we can keep the issue with your work in it online in our back issue archives). The author always holds the copyright to their work and retains all other rights\, including the right to publish the piece elsewhere after its publication in After Happy Hour.

SUMMARY:PFN - Call for Submissions to Catamaran Literary Reader. Theme: Fashion
DESCRIPTION:This issue considers “Fashion” in all its forms used in literary writing to reveal character. Think of elements of fashion that are a filter for underlying human emotion and a lens into identity. The garments themselves can be used to tell a story as well…from denim to silk\, from to sunglasses and swimwear to military attire. Settings can include anything that exudes fashion to generate meaning from the elaborate styles on the runway to the hats worn in formal gatherings. Topics can include exploration of characters who are identified by their attire\, like in Breakfast at Tiffany’s or The Great Gatsby. Poems can explore the mysteries of what we wear. Essays can investigate the evolution of certain attire\, or the personal meaning a specific style might have for the author. Let’s make this issue colorful and full of new insight! \nPlease submit your original\, previously unpublished short fiction\, creative nonfiction\, or poetry. Select one genre per submission to this category. For fiction or nonfiction\, it can be any page length. For poetry a selection of 3-5 poems. In your cover letter please include a brief bio of one paragraph and a mailing address for contributor copies. \nThis category will close when the submissions cap of 200 is reached.

SUMMARY:PFN - Halfway Down the Stairs Seeking Submissions on the Theme of Midnight
DESCRIPTION:GENERAL GUIDELINES \n\nWe are looking for serious writers with an appreciation for language and the craft of writing. We want fiction with memorable characters and realistic plots\, poetry that is fresh and original\, and nonfiction that is both thoughtful and entertaining.\nWe will accept only writing that has been proofread for spelling and grammar. Trust us on this one. We keep our virtual machete very sharp for people who are grammatically challenged\, and we are not afraid to use it.\nHaving said that\, as an international ‘zine\, we accept differences in spelling usages (e.g. British vs American English) and will publish whatever is considered correct in an author’s home country.\nWe are not interested in explicit sexual content\, gratuitous violence\, or repetitive swearing\, unless it is essential to the plot and not included solely for shock value.\nPlease do not send us any of the following: poetry that sounds like it ought to be on a Hallmark card\, poetry you copied from a Hallmark card\, how-to articles\, first drafts of anything\, fanfiction\, anything full of sentimentality\, or religious and/or political propaganda disguised as fiction.\nThis ought to be obvious\, but only send us your own work\, humans. If you send us anything plagiarized or written by a robot\, remember we have a machete.\nWe do not accept previously published work. This includes not only formal publications in print and online journals\, but any pieces you may have posted to a blog\, personal website\, etc. If it’s already available to the public in some form\, we do not accept it.\nWe do accept simultaneous submissions\, but please let us know immediately if your piece is accepted by another journal.\nAs above\, we do not consider or accept submissions outside the specified submission period.\nWe reserve the right to make minor editorial changes without consultation\, where there are unintentional errors or inconsistencies in punctuation\, spelling or grammar. We will consult authors about anything more substantive.\nThe editors are all responsive to shameless flattery and to gifts of chocolate.\n\nPoetry Guidelines \nWe accept poetry of roughly 500 words or less\, although we are not terribly strict about this guideline.  We are rarely willing to be lenient with the theme when it comes to poetry\, and will do so only if the submission is very good. \nPlease note that we only accept three poems at any one time from a single author and\, for the most part\, publish only one poem from any one author per edition. \nFiction Guidelines \nWe accept fiction of roughly 5\,000 words or less related to the theme of the issue.   The fiction editors are looking mostly for short stories\, but we are happy to consider well-crafted flash fiction. We don’t want to be too strict with the guidelines\, because we appreciate originality\, creativity\, and stories that are off the beaten path. We like stories that grab us from the beginning\, make us think\, and keep us enthralled. Stories should be written confidently and fluidly\, avoiding too many adjectives or too much dialogue. We will be negatively distracted by poor grammar/spelling\, clichés\, and a lack of editing. \nPlease submit only one piece of fiction at a time\, and ensure stories are formatted as requested below. \nNonfiction Guidelines \nWe accept creative nonfiction of 3\,000 words or less. Halfway Down the Stairs is specifically looking for essays and memoir with a strong voice and a unique point of view. We publish well-written\, honest writing that inspires emotion. Humor is also appreciated. \nWe are not looking for stream of consciousness rants of a political or religious nature. Save those for your blog. We respond negatively to spelling and grammatical errors\, so please proofread your work closely if you wish to have it seriously considered. \nPlease submit only one piece of nonfiction at a time. \nSUBMISSIONS PROCESS\n \n\nPlease send all writing submissions to halfway . stairs @ gmail . com.\nDO NOT send your work as an attachment. (More details on why under point 5 below.)\nYour subject line should look like this: submission\, genre\, and title of your piece.  (Example: “Submission\, Fiction\, Monsoon Nights.”)  If you are submitting multiple poems\, state the number of poetry submissions instead of the title of the piece. (Example:  “Submission\, Three Poems by William C. Fredrikson.”) Please do not submit multiple genres in a single e-mail; if you would like to submit poetry and fiction\, send us two separate e-mails.\nWithin the body of your e-mail\, give us the following information: the title(s) of your submission(s)\, the name under which you wish to be published\, your e-mail address\, if the piece you are submitting has ever been published elsewhere\, if the piece you are submitting is a simultaneous submission\, and a brief introduction written in the 3rd person point of view.  If you are submitting multiple poems\, include these statements at the beginning of your e-mail\, and follow it with the actual poems. Example:\n\nThree Poems \nby William C. Fredrikson. \ncrazywillie57@gmail.com. \nNo\, the submitted poems have never published elsewhere. \nMonsoon Nights is not a simultaneous submission.  Elsewhere and Lady Luck are both simultaneous submissions.William C. Fredrikson teaches grade seven social studies in British Columbia.   His students think he looks exactly like Jack Nicholson.  In his spare time\, William enjoys playing the guitar\, reading Hemingway\, studying World War II history\, and making fun of reality television. \n\nIf we do choose to publish your piece\, we will also publish your biography. Your e-mail address is confidential\, and we will never publish it or give it out.\nAfter your introduction\, please post your piece within the body of your e-mail.  Please do not send your work as an attachment.  Please single space your work\, double spacing between paragraphs.  Please do not indent your paragraphs.\nProvide a content warning if it’s warranted: Let us know upfront if there is some kind of explicit content in your submission which we should be warned about in advance. We’ll leave this up to your discretion\, but examples could include abuse\, neglect\, self harm\, or violence.\nOptional: Let us know how you found us.  We’re curious as to where our readers and writers are coming from.\nOptional: Let us know if there’s a kind of image you visualize with your piece\, or even if you have an image you would like us to use if it is published (guidelines below). We reserve the right to choose alternatives – but we are happy to consider your suggestions.\n\nWe aim to respond to all submissions within 4-8 weeks of receipt\, and you will never wait more than three months for a response.

Additionally\, thousands of readers\, editors\, and journals will receive micro chapbook access through our newsletter. The winners will be offered the opportunity to work with Palette editors to revise the manuscript. \nWe hope that you enjoy curating a micro chapbook from your body of work that would best fit one of the following themes: \nWinter \nPoems about retreat\, rescue\, camaraderie\, coldness\, mentorship\, stirring\, archiving\, forests\, chopping\, sinking\, wrapping\, and dreaming. \nSpring \nPoems about travel\, colors\, digging\, dancing\, sewing\, singing\, feathers\, heartbreak\, parks\, seeking\, citrus\, and softness. \nSummer \nPoems about emptiness\, sky\, expanse\, eating\, flowing\, running\, reaching\, towers\, shouting\, fingertips\, swimming\, and glass. \nFall \nPoems about cobblestones\, fire\, arguments\, graveyards\, ink\, candles\, blankets\, apartments\, planning\, reading\, and watching. \nSubmission Guidelines: Please read carefully! \n\nFor this prize\, we are only accepting collections consisting of ten to fifteen pages (not including cover page\, table of contents\, or acknowledgments) containing no more than ten poems.\nSubmissions are open internationally\, to any poet writing in English—inclusion of other languages is welcome\, as long as the poem is largely written in English.\nSome of your micro chapbook may contain poems that have been previously published. We ask that at least one-third of the micro chapbook is unpublished at the time of submission. Of course\, it is not necessary for any of the poems to be previously published—we are excited to celebrate micro chapbooks of brand-new work as well!\nWe accept simultaneous submissions—just please send us a note if your work is accepted for publication elsewhere.\nYour submission must be no more than ten poems and no more than fifteen pages. Please submit all your poems in ONE document. Please begin each poem on a new page and include each poem’s individual title. In the same document\, please also include: a cover page with the micro chapbook title and your name\, a table of contents\, and an acknowledgements page with any previous publication credits.\nWhen you submit\, you can indicate which season you think your micro chapbook best fits. However\, we will also consider it for other seasons\, so don’t feel the need to get this designation exactly right.\nWe do accept multiple submissions; for example\, if you would like to submit a different micro chapbook for a different theme\, each submission will include the $20 reading fee.\nPlease include a brief cover letter in the cover letter box with your publication history\, if any. To safeguard our reading staff\, please include content warnings in the cover letter\, if applicable\, as well.\nReview our FAQ page for frequently asked questions.\nNOTE: If after submitting you notice an error in your submission\, please message us rather than withdrawing and resubmitting your submission. We can open it to editing once so you can correct the error.\nPalette Poetry does not accept AI-produced work.\nSubmitters will be notified of their submission status sixteen to twenty weeks after the contest’s closing date.\n\nIncluded Unique Opportunities and Discounts \nAs a thank you for your support for Palette\, we’d like to offer a 10% off discount code on a writing class from The Writing Salon. Find a class and use the code included in the confirmation message at checkout. \nEditorial Feedback Option \nThis manuscript review costs $99 and will provide you with three pages of detailed and actionable feedback on your micro chapbook. Our guest editors will evaluate the themes\, strengths\, and opportunities for revision in your micro chapbook as a whole\, and may give more specific feedback on individual poems. Our guest editors are paid a significant portion of the fee and are all incredibly astute poets.

SUMMARY:P - Call for Submissions to Cordite Poetry Review. Theme: Remember
DESCRIPTION:How is memory assailed by states\, by time\, by the formation of institutional practices of commemoration? \nAlessandro Portelli once wrote that oral testimonies ‘are not always fully reliable … Rather than being a weakness\, this is however\, their strength: errors\, inventions\, and myths lead us through and beyond facts to their meaning’. \nWhat are the bigger truths beyond facticity and how is the present enriched and unsettled by what we REMEMBER? \nSubmissions\n\nSubmission to Cordite 116: REMEMBER\, with poetry guest-edited by Micaela Sahhar and Anne-Marie Te Whiu\, closes 11.59pm Melbourne time on Sunday\, 2 February 2025. \n*Submissions for Cordite Scholarly are always accepted. \nSubmissions of poetry in translation can be sent to our Translations Editor at any time: alice [@] cordite.org.au. \nThe following conditions apply to all poetry submissions: \n\nWe will only read submissions sent during our official submission periods.\nCordite maintains a hybrid submissions policy. This means that the guest editor may invite five (5) Australian and five (5) overseas authors directly to submit to the issue. In addition\, the guest-editor will anonymously select an additional 30-35 works from Australian authors and use their discretion to select further overseas works. For each issue\, the guest editor does not know the identities of the online contributors (via Submittable) until after the final selections have been made.\nSimultaneous submissions? Sure. Just inform us or withdraw if the work is accepted elsewhere.\nPlease place up to three (3) poems in one (1) Word or RTF document (unless specifically noted otherwise for special issues)\, with no identifying details in the document itself.\nWe are not able to offer feedback on individual poems.\nSubmissions will only be accepted via Submittable …\nSubmissions may need to be developed to adhere to our Guide for Indigenous Editing and Writing.\n\n

SUMMARY:F - Stone's Throw Submissions Theme for March: In Like a Lamb; Out Like a Lion
DESCRIPTION:March is in like a lion and out like a lamb\, but this month at Stone’s Throw\, we want to reverse it. Give us meek characters who find their fire by the end of the story. What happens when repression gives way to hedonism and rage? Or maybe your protagonist was already a secret badass\, and just needed that nudge to show their true stripes? Maybe they go too far\, and have to make sense of what they’ve done when they come back to their senses? Keep it within the usual RHP boundaries. \nStone’s Throw is the monthly online companion to Rock and a Hard Place Magazine\, delivering shorter\, sharper content on a regular basis in an electronic medium\, before collecting all 12 stories for an annual print anthology. Each month\, writers will be given a submission prompt\, and the best of the best\, by our estimation\, will be posted here the following month. \nInterested in Submitting?\nStone’s Throw will open for submissions the first three days of every month\, from 12AM on the first through 12AM on the fourth (with some wiggle room here and there to account for the editors being human). We’re looking for all the same dark fiction\, crime\, and noir as our usual submissions\, but with a target length between 1\,000 and 2\,000 words\, and aligned with the monthly submissions prompt (see below). We’ll read through each story\, choose the one story that shines brightest\, and publish it online the following month\, paying $25 per accepted story. \nAfter a year\, we’ll collect all twelve stories into a Stone’s Throw Annual Anthology\, to be published alongside our other print issues. \nPLEASE NOTE — If you have been accepted within the calendar year for Stone’s Throw\, you are ineligible to submit again during that same calendar year. However\, we look forward to reading your submissions during our regular RHP Magazine open calls!

They aren’t highbrow pursuits reserved only for intellectuals—literature and art are for everyone. Fresh voices are essential\, and we love fledgling artists. We are passionate about helping you find your niche\, whether it’s through our feedback or the resources provided on our website. Yes\, we want to hear from you veteran crafters too\, so please send us your work as well. We want to hear what you have to say. \nWe are looking for mixed media submissions (prose\, poetry\, art\, photography\, and videos) of all genres. We are especially drawn to pieces that showcase vulnerability and draw from real life experiences. That does not mean we don’t enjoy comedic takes on life\, fantasy epics\, and unconventional pieces. We like to uphold the unique\, showcase the weird\, and embrace the uncomfortable.

SUMMARY:N - Call for Submissions to Griffith Review. Theme: Here Be Monsters
DESCRIPTION:Griffith Review 89: Here Be Monsters \nPortent\, symbol\, metaphor: from the Bunyip of Aboriginal folklore to the Slenderman of social media\, from Count Dracula to the (far more sinister) emotional vampire\, monsters of all forms have offered us ways to express and exorcise our fears for thousands of years. This edition of Griffith Review surveys beasts and bogeymen past and present\, real and imagined\, to peel back the layers of our social and cultural anxieties. What are we most afraid of? When is monstrosity alluring rather than frightening? And what form might the monsters of the future take? \nThings for you to note: \n* We’re looking for non-fiction only that responds to the theme. \n* We want pieces that are no longer than 4\,000 words (they can\, of course\, be much shorter than this). \n* Attention poets! We’ll be opening a separate poetry call-out on 3 March – keep an eye on our social media and newsletter for more details soon. \n* We’ll let you know the outcome of your submission within eight weeks of the call-out closing date. \nSubmissions close: 11:59 pm AEST\, 16 February 2025 \nPublication date: August 2025

SUMMARY:FN - Waffle Fried: A Literary Magazine Seeking: Flash fiction and nonfiction up to 750 words
DESCRIPTION:Flash February\n(Online Submission Call) \nflash [/flaSH/] – adjective: brief; sudden.\nFebrurary – feb(y)əˌwerē: The second month of the year.\nDo you know how to pronounce February? That’s okay\, neither do we.  \nThankfully\, we’re not asking for you to pronounce February\, we’re just asking you to send us 750 words about something. Anything. Literally anything at all.  \n(Though please do read our guidelines) \nThe plan is: \nWe’ll publish 1-2 fiction pieces and 1-2 CNF pieces every Friday throughout the month of February\, because we’re big fans of alliteration. We say 1-2 because it kinda depends on how many submissions we get\, etc.  \nWe’ve said it once and we’ll say it again: we’re not quite sure what we’re doing but at least five people are here for it so no one can stop us now. We’ve already made a website.  \nSEND US YOUR WORDS! \nWord count limit for fiction and creative non-fiction is 750 words.  \nFormatting \nOur submission manager\, Duosoma\, will guide you through this\, but we accept doc\, docx\, pdf\, jpg\, tif and png files. \nWe’re not picky about font but for the love of God do not use Comic Sans (even if graphic design is your passion). Reasonable font size please and preferably 1.5 or double spaced. \nThird person bio. 50 words max. We find the most intimidating part of submitting to be cover letters so we’re not asking for a whole lot. A simple “oh hey!” Or even “whaddup” will suffice. Maybe just tell us a fun fact about you (like what your favorite color or shape or dinosaur is!). Just acknowledge that we exist because our therapists said it’s good for us.

SUMMARY:PFN - 3Elements Literary Review Seeking Submissions with "Prophecy\, Attic\, and Isolation" for the Spring Issue
DESCRIPTION:Submission Guidelines\nThe three elements for the current submission period are: Prophecy\, attic\, isolation. \n\nDue February 28\, 2025\, for our spring issue\, no. 46.\n\n\nWhat does 3Elements enjoy reading?\nWe appreciate good writing in any genre. We especially like edgy writing that offers insight into darkness. We prefer character-driven stories as opposed to plot-driven ones. We relish a piece with a great deal of heart and more than a little bit of Truth (note the capital “T”). We want to read a story that makes us feel edified or philosophical or amused or creeped out or angry or melancholy or inspired or\, best yet\, all of these things together. \nWe find stories that include gratuitous violence distasteful. Sexism\, racism\, or other forms of intolerance are intolerable to us. That said\, you can certainly reveal a character through his/her prejudices; just don’t use a story to perpetuate negative stereotypes or ignorance. The world is already bursting with both. \nUsing the elements\n3Elements Literary Review  is a themed literary journal\, and all THREE elements (the specific words\, Prophecy\, attic\, isolation—art & photography excluded) given for the submission period must be included in your story or poem for your work to be considered for publication. NO EXCEPTIONS WHATSOEVER. \nYour story or poem doesn’t have to be about the three elements or even revolve around them; simply use your imagination to create whatever you want. You can use any form of the words/elements for the given submission period. For example\, if the elements are: Flash\, Whimsy\, and Seizure; we would accept the usage of Flashed\, Whimsical\, and Seizures \nHow to submit your work\nWe will only accept previously unpublished (including digital/online content) work submitted to us through Submittable. You can easily submit material to us from our Submit page. Any work that is sent to us as an attachment\, or in the body of an email\, through our ‘Contact’ page\, or any other way outside of Submittable will automatically be declined. \nLength\nThere is no minimum word count\, but please keep your fiction and nonfiction submissions under 3\,500 words. Poetry must be under two typed pages. \nBio\nIf you’re accepted for publication in 3Elements Literary Review\, we\, as well as the readers of our publication will naturally want to know a little more about you\, as well as your writing background\, so providing us with a bio is very helpful!

How did you internalize it? \n\n\n\n\nCreative nonfiction (1 submission per author per issue) must be between 100 and 2\,000 words. Poetry (up to 2 poems per author per issue\, grouped into a single document) may be any length. \n\n\nSubmissions do not need to be in English but must include an English translation. \n\n\nNo previously published work will be accepted at this time—this includes all printed and online material; simultaneous submissions are okay but please let us know when you send in your submission(s) and if a submission is published elsewhere in the interim\, email submissions@yellowarrowpublishing.com immediately. \n\n\nAre You Ready to Submit?\nTo submit to UNFURL (Vol. X\, No. 1\, spring 2025)\, send an email to submissions@yellowarrowpublishing.com and include: \n\n\nSubject: Vol. #\, No. # Theme – type of submission [nonfiction\, poetry\, or cover art] (required) \n\n\nYour full name (and name you would want Yellow Arrow to use)\, nationality\, and current city/state/country of residence (required) \n\n\nOur writers and readers come from all walks of life and so do we. We are taking steps across our portfolio to increase representation and give greater visibility to the voices of underrepresented women-identifying storytellers. If you are comfortable doing so\, please share with us which underrepresented communities you identify with that may make you uniquely positioned to connect with a particular group of readers (optional) \n\n\nYour pronouns and age (optional) \n\n\nWhere you heard about us (optional) \n\n\nAuthors/artists should only submit one type of submission per issue; no agents. \nNote that submissions are anonymously reviewed in-house; the information you provide above is used only to better understand the composition of our audience. \nAttach your submission to your email. Accepted files for creative nonfiction and poetry submissions include .doc/.docx\, .rtf\, or .pdf (.doc/.docx preferred)—use minimal document styling and do not include identifying information (only within your email). Accepted files for cover art include .jpeg/.jpg\, .tiff/.tif\, .gif\, .eps\, or .psd—a low resolution is preferable at this time. \nBy sending your submission you agree to the following statements: \n\n\nYou are a writer or artist who identifies as a woman \n\n\nYou have completely read and submitted within the guidelines. \n\n\nDue to the volume of submissions and the nature of our submission process\, authors/artists will not receive an email confirming receipt of submission. Rather\, all who submit within the guidelines\, whether accepted to the next issue or not\, will receive an email after submissions have closed—please do not email us to inquire about a submission. Submissions for UNFURL (Vol. X\, No. 1\, spring 2025) are open February 1-28.

SUMMARY:PFN - Call for Submissions to Exist Otherwise Literary Journal Issue 14. Theme: We Are Not Going Back!
DESCRIPTION:To be honest\, I posted a theme and prompt for Issue 14 a couple weeks before the election. But I completely freaked out when I woke up Nov. 6 and saw the election results. I was shocked and horrified. I was also triggered. I felt shame and betrayal at what this country has become. I had to take some time off and I had to re-focus. \nIssue 14 will be a reaction\, a declaration of resistance\, a doubling down of queer and trans voices. Claude Cahun and her partner\, Marcel Moore\, were strident anti-fascists. They were so active in the resistance that they were captured\, imprisoned\, and sentenced to death. They only escaped that fate by the end of the war. So here’s the new theme for 14: \nWe Are Not Going Back!\n  \nWhat to Submit\nWriting\nWe accept any kind of written work: poetry\, prose\, essays\, fiction\, creative non-fiction\, scripts\, hybrid\, experimental writing\, whatever. \n500 Words or Less: You may submit up to three (3) per issue. \n500-1000 Words: You may submit up to one (1) per issue. \nWhat Not to Submit\n\nDon’t submit work that you do not have the rights to.\nErotica is fine\, but nothing explicit.\nWe appreciate horror as a genre\, but it’s not what we’re looking for.\nNo hate\, racism\, sexism\, misogyny\, transphobia\, torture\, gratuitous violence\, or anything that aspires to cause harm.\n\nHow to Submit\nWhat follows are our requirements for submissions of work to us. We will not typically reject a submission if it doesn’t meet these requirements exactly. However\, any contributor who consistently submits work that is sloppy or hard to understand\, is less likely to receive a notice of acceptance. \nWe require submissions to come from our Submission Form. This allows us to better keep track of them. \nWriting Submissions Format\nWe accept works submitted in plain text\, .rtf\, .doc\, .docx\, or .pdf. \nIf your work requires any special formatting\, pdf is suggested. In some cases\, it might make sense to send your work as an image\, in which case\, jpg is fine. \nStyle Guide for Writing Submissions\n\nTypeface – The only thing we care about is that we can read your work with ease and clarity. Serif and Sans Serif are both fine\, but please use something common\, such as Times or Helvetica.\nType size – Goldilocks! (Not too small\, not too large.) 11-13 points is ideal.\nPage Size – We don’t care\, as long as the work is readable.\nMargins – We don’t care\, as long as the work is readable.\nLine Spacing (Leading) – We don’t care\, as long as the work is readable.\nType & Background Color – Black on white is preferred.\nSpecial Situations – Some contemporary writing breaks conventions and incorporates elements of visual art and/or experimentation. This is wonderful. The use of specialized fonts\, typefaces\, or type sizing\, mixed typefaces\, special characters\, etc. is all the more reason to submit work in PDF or JPG format. We reserve the right to treat some of these types of work as text-based\, and some as visual art. But we can’t make any broad guidelines here. These kinds of works will necessarily involve conversations between author and publisher so that decisions can be made jointly.\n\nWritten work will be formatted and displayed according to our internal style guide. Any exceptions to this must be negotiated on an individual basis. \n\nPayment\n\nWe pay $15 per published written work.\nPayment is issued within 1-3 days of publishing.\n\nWe can only guarantee payment through Paypal or Venmo. If you are unable to use either of those\, let us know ahead of time and we’ll try to work something out. \n\nRights\nUpon completion of the Contributor Agreement (sent by email with notice of acceptance)\, we reserve the right to publish your submitted work on this site\, and in a downloadable PDF version of the issue. Both of these shall remain available here for a minimum of 60 days from the publish date. \nOur right to publish your work is not exclusive. You may publish it elsewhere while it is published here. \nAfter 60 days\, you may request that your work be removed for any reason. Absent such request\, your work will remain available on the web site and in a downloadable PDF for as long as this journal continues. \nWe retain no other rights to your work.
