This centuries-old art form uses fragments of multicolored rocks\, glasses\, or other seemingly scrapable materials to weave itself into an exquisite artwork. Despite its fragmentary nature\, the art form comes together as a whole to depict the beauty present in the mundane.\n\nHumanity\, as an inspiration for art\, also forms a mosaic of sorts. The complex and layered emotions\, the multifarious expressions of identities that integrate into an individual or the cultural and social fusion formed by the diversity of people in our daily life\, are transposed forms of mosaic art. From a myriad of shades\, contrasting ideas\, and challenging stories\, an elegant whole can be formed. DESCRIPTION:The writing in Atticus Review is unashamed\, unadorned\, and unafraid. The stories we love are often lonely\, and sometimes ugly\, but we’re also deeply attracted to the bright\, bold\, and hope-infused. \nWe like hybrid\, unconventional work that pushes boundaries\, elevates and edifies on an intellectual level\, that investigates the inscrutable essence of a thing\, that avoids artifice to stand firmly in its unique voice. \nISSUE THREE: OPEN with a Special Folio on Language\nFor the December 2022 issue\, Atticus Review is looking for work for our open-themed issue. We are\, however\,  especially interested in work that engages with notions and explorations  of language. We are open to any and all interpretations of the prompt. \nThank you for your interest in publishing your work with Atticus Review. We are an online journal that publishes stories\, poems\, essays and other forms of creative digital media. \n Poetry: \nPlease submit 1-5 poems through Submittable. Simultaneous submissions are OK. Please place Autumn Moon in the subject line of any submission. \nAt the editor’s discretion\, submissions may be selected for publication in regular editions of Plum Tree tavern. \n\nPlum Tree Tavern invites original and previously unpublished poetry of green witness and red protest. \nClimate change and social and economic repression are inextricably linked. The crowd denying or preventing effective responses to global warming is the same crowd repressing equality within society. \nFor the green witness and ecopoetic half of the equation\, Plum Tree seeks work focusing on specific images of physical nature. Work that focuses on the image in nature as it exists is greatly preferred over the writer’s judgments of the image. \nThe term “red protest” is deliberately used here to call for poetical works of leftist resistance. The tavern is not looking for wishy washy give peace a chance plea bargains but for work with a sharper edge. But manifesto\, diatribe and polemic without poetical structure or elements isn’t the ticket either. \n\nWorks of up to 40 lines sounds about right. Longer work will be considered. DESCRIPTION:NonBinary Review is open for submissions on the theme of “family.” Just as each of us carries many identities within us\, each of us belongs to many families. There’s our family of origin\, often complicated and tumultuous\, that leaves an indelible impression on our physical selves (as powerfully expressed in the poetry of Philip Larkin). Some of us have foster or adoptive families that further complicated our childhood sense of ourselves in the world. There’s our family of choice\, those people we gather to us to be our support system as we grow and change. There are families of affinity: people with whom we share common interests or experiences. But those aren’t the sum total of possibility. \nWho are your family? How do you relate to them? How has family shaped your life and your responses to the world? What is the gulf between the family you need and the family you have? We want to know about your relationships and how they shaped you\, rather than hearing the story of your (no doubt wonderful) grandpa\, Auntie Bertha\, or Little Timmy. We want to hear about your accidental families\, your surprise families\, your fucked up families\, and the ways you have carved out a place in your life and heart for them\, or managed to build a much-needed barrier between you and them. \nAll submissions must have a clear relationship to our theme\, and be submitted (double-spaced for prose) in 12pt Times New Roman or they will be rejected. Pema Chödrön\, a Buddhist nun\, says that the origins of aggression and war reside in our hearts and that the way we respond to the challenges that face us can either build on that culture of violence\, or create a culture of kindness and compassion. \nPrairie Fire is seeking fiction\, poetry and creative non-fiction that looks at the depth of peace\, and the struggles that we’ve all had when it comes to creating peace instead of war. Creating peace within ourselves and with others is a journey\, what does your journey look like? When have you chosen peace as an act of rebellion\, found a moment of personal peace in a war zone (literally or figuratively)\, found inner peace despite the chaos\, made peace with a loved one\, made peace with an idea\, made peace with all the little battles that rage inside us every day of our lives. And\, perhaps peace\, no matter how hard you tried hasn’t come yet\, and you’re still waiting.
