SUMMARY:PFN - Reckoning: creative writing on environmental justice Seeks Submissions on the Theme: "Oceans"
DESCRIPTION:Submit\n\n\nWe’re currently reading for Reckoning 7; the theme is oceans\, and the deadline is September 22\, 2022. Read the submission calls from editors Tim Fab-Eme (poetry)\, Priya Chand (nonfiction) and Octavia Cade (fiction). \nTo see what we’re looking for\, try Reckoning 6\, 5\, 4\, 3\, 2\, 1\, the interviews\, twitter\, or even LCRW 33. \nThe short version: creative writing about environmental justice. The fiction we publish is mostly\, but not exclusively\, speculative; the nonfiction is more creative than journalistic\, the poetry tends towards the narrative\, preferably with some thematic heft. The heart of what we want is your personal\, visceral\, idiosyncratic understanding of the world and the people in it as it has been\, as it is\, as it will be\, as it could be\, as a consequence of humanity’s relationship with the earth. \nWe are always seeking work from Indigenous writers and artists\, writers and artists of color\, queer and trans writers and artists\, and anyone who has suffered the consequences\, intended or otherwise\, of dominant society’s systemic disconnect with and mistreatment of the natural world. And we’re seeking new ways to reach all of the above. Seriously\, if you know of a way we can do that\, please share. \nWe’d love to publish more work in translation! We’re currently open to considering writing in Spanish\, French or Swedish for potential translation. For work already translated into English\, we pay the same rate to both author and translator. \nWe don’t publish ecofascism or work we perceive to be prejudiced in any form\, including sexism\, racism\, ableism\, ageism. We reserve the right to point it out—respectfully—when we see it\, though we’re as prone to mistakes and misunderstanding as anyone else. Here’s a start on a list of what else doesn’t work for us. \nWe’re no longer accepting submissions by email; queries are ok\, though not necessary. Simultaneous submissions are ok. Multiple submissions are discouraged\, except for poetry\, where we prefer 3-5 poems or 10 pages\, whichever is shorter\, combined in a single document. Feel free to submit again after you hear back. Query for reprints. Length: 0 – 20\,000 words (query for longer). Response time has ranged from one to four months and is slowest October – January as we’re putting together the new issue. \nThere are no fees to submit. Payment is 8 cents per word (US) for prose\, $30 per page for poetry\, art negotiable\, minimum $25 per piece. Sample contract is here. \nSubmit your work via Moksha! \nAll of the above shall be subject hopefully not to too much change but certainly to clarification\, evolution and adaptation.

SUMMARY:PFN - Capsule Stories Winter 2022 Edition: Hibernation
DESCRIPTION:Our Winter 2022 Edition theme is Hibernation. We’re looking for stories\, poems\, and essays about hunkering down for the winter and quietly resting. Write about animals hibernating\, or write about you hibernating. Send us pieces full of longing and patience as you hide out\, slow down\, and wait for the end of winter. Write about snow days or sick days and taking a break instead of being productive. Write about fallow periods for the land—and your writing. We are especially interested in quiet\, lingering pieces that take place in winter and evoke the feeling of the season. \nCapsule Stories Submission Guidelines\nWe accept short stories\, poems\, and remarkably written essays. For short stories and essays\, we’re interested in pieces under 3\,000 words. You may include up to five poems in a single poetry submission (please send them all in one Word document)\, and only send one story or essay at a time. Please send previously unpublished work only (“published” includes pieces that have been posted or made publicly available on a blog\, website\, or social media platform). You may only submit one submission per edition. Simultaneous submissions are okay\, but please let us know if your submission is accepted elsewhere. Please include a brief third-person bio with your submission\, and attach your submissions in a Word document (no PDFs unless your poetry has very specific formatting\, please!). \nAll writers are welcome to submit\, especially writers of color\, LGBTQ writers\, writers with disabilities\, and all writers from marginalized backgrounds. \nContributors who have been previously published in Capsule Stories are welcome to submit. There is no waiting period or restriction on submitting after we’ve published your work. \nCapsule Stories does not tolerate plagiarism. We run pieces through Copyscape to check for duplicate content before sending acceptances. \nA note on privacy and safety: You will be asked to enter your mailing address before submitting on Submittable\, as this speeds up our acceptance process. However\, we want you to feel safe. If you do not want to enter your address into Submittable for privacy or safety reasons\, please enter a placeholder and let us know in your cover letter that the address is a placeholder. Likewise\, feel free to enter a placeholder phone number as we don’t need that info from you. \nWe are currently reading submissions for our blog and Capsule Stories Winter 2022 Edition: Hibernation.

SUMMARY:PFN - Musing Publications Magazine Seeks Submissions on The Nuances of New-Age Feminism
DESCRIPTION:At Musing Publications we aim to uplift voices of writers and artists from all backgrounds. Our main goal is to publish works from underrepresented communities – writers/artists that are women\, people of color\, disabled and LGBTQ+ identifying. \n\n\n\n\nMagazine Submissions\n\nThe theme of our first zine is The Nuances of New-Age Feminism.. With modern day feminism being so multi-faceted\, we’ve seen many new waves of feminism taking off in corners of the internet. From dissociative feminism to girl-boss feminism\, new subsets of the movement have been rising rapidly on social media. It’s left many of us wondering\, where does the feminist movement go from here? Is one form of feminism supposed to bring us more liberation than another?  Musing Publications wants to hear how you’re dissecting your own place in the movement in the age of social media. \nWe want your poetry\, short stories\, visual art\, photography\, essays – any medium you choose to express yourself in is welcome!  For poetry submissions\, please submit up to three poems. For art or photography\, please submit up to five pieces. Short stories should be 2000 words or less and essays should be 1000 words or less. Fees for all submissions to the magazine are $3. \nOur magazine is released quarterly\, with the inaugural edition set to release in fall of 2022. We are accepting submissions for this quarter’s magazine until September 15th\, 2022. All contributors accepted to this edition will receive 2 copies of the zine once it has been printed. SUMMARY:PFN - Passager Journal Seeks Submissions on the Theme of "Ancestral or Generational Trauma"
DESCRIPTION:Writers must be age 50 or older at the time of publication to submit.\nPublication: January/February\, Guest Editor: Christine Lincoln\nAccepted genres: poetry\, memoir\, short fiction\nUp to 5 poems\, 40-line max ea. OR 4\,000 words of prose\nNo reading fee\nAbout the theme: Ancestral or Generational Trauma \nWe hear the words ancestral trauma and we might immediately think of childhood sexual or physical abuse\, or the dissolution of our parents’ marriage\, or the discovery some awful family secret. Secrets and generational trauma often go hand in hand. \nBut there are other less obvious ways we can and\, most likely\, have experienced ancestral trauma. Generational trauma can be something as seemingly insignificant as being raised to fear people who live in the inner city\, or something as quietly insidious as growing up poor\, or it could be something as prevalent as bearing witness in a family that did not treat its women with the highest regard. \nThe truth is only you\, the writer\, the artist\, can decide the kinds of trauma that have been passed down as easily as mother’s milk\, the limiting beliefs and damaging ideas handed down as succinctly as family myths and bedtime stories—the legacy of pain that has been perpetuated by our ancestors\, because they could not do any better\, but also the generational trauma we have inadvertently continued\, because of our inability—until now—to look straight into the shadows where these things hide\, to heal\, and transcend\, create a new legacy. \nWriters must be age 50 or older at the time of publication to submit. \nYou can send paper submissions by postal mail or submit online via Submittable.

DESCRIPTION:At Paddler Press\, we are outdoors people and our site pages are named accordingly to canoe trip lingo. The Put In is where the trip begins. The Trip Log is a reminder of where we’ve been\, the details of The Journey. The Portage is where we get out of our boats\, stretch our legs\, and carry our junk to the next put in. The Campfire is where we drink coffee\, tell stories (for the umpteenth time)\, laugh\, and many time\, just sit and reflect. \nVolume 6’s theme is Changes. This issue will be released in October\, when many of us will be putting the summer things away and embracing the crisp fall air\, early frosts\, and beautiful colours. Changes can be physical or philosophical\, real or imagined. What are changes to you? \nAll work should reflect the theme of Changes as you interpret it. If you’re not sure\, please send it in anyway. We’d love to read your work. \nSubmission Guidelines\nSubmission guidelines are pretty straightforward. Please read\, Especially #2. \n\nPlease submit up to five original poems in one .docx or PDF file attached to your email. We are looking for poems that are not overly long\, and would also enjoy and encourage micro-poetry. If you’re not sure\, send it along anyway. Simultaneous submissions are fine\, but let us know if your work is picked up elsewhere (and huge congratulations!). Poems should be previously unpublished. Poems appearing on your personal blog or social media are fine\, though we’d love to be able to share brand new works with the world. Include a third-person bio of 100 words or so. Please limit your recent publications to three or four. Include social media handles if you’d like and we’ll support you online. Send your work to paddler@canoeideas.ca.\nPlease use last name – submission as the subject and the name of your document. This makes finding your work in our downloads folder much easier. Really. Please. I beg of you. Why won’t people do this?\n\nI will do my very best to get back to you as soon as I can. If you don’t hear from me within a month after submitting\, give me a shout. Life gets busy and this isn’t my regular gig.

SUMMARY:PFN - Moss Piglet Zine Call for Submissions. Theme: "Lost or Found"
DESCRIPTION:Our theme is Lost or Found. You can pick one – Lost or Found– or both to use as an onramp for your creative journey.  You may think literally on loss\, such as lost things\, people\, or pets\, or metaphorically: loss of innocence\, for example.  The same applies to the word\, found. Consider things that are found – a new route through your town or a lost pet or doll\, or think of metaphors for found\, such as finding a new lease on life.\nThe Krazines  welcome submissions of prose and poetry for publication in its full-color\, monthly zine\, Moss Piglet.  Anyone of any age or talent level may contribute work (but please\, no politics.)  Each issue has a theme in place to jumpstart your imagination.  You may interpret these themes widely.\n\n\n\n\nSubmissions of Stories\, Essays & Poems\n\nPlease send text submissions in .doc\, .docx or PDF formats to info@krazines.com.  We are more apt to accept short works\, as our publication is digest-size\, but we don’t have a word limit.  Check out some of our past issues to get an idea on the style and length of written work that we have published. \nYou may provide multiple submissions\, but don’t go crazy. Someone has to read all of the stuff that comes across our desk. We’re OK with simultaneous submissions and previously published work. Just cite the place where your writing previously appeared. If you have a fancy title like Poet Laureate\, Writer-In-Residence\, or you have been knighted by the Queen\, we’d be happy to include that information in our publication right next to your name.

SUMMARY:PN - Parabola Magazine's Call for Submissions on the Theme of "Darkness & Light"
DESCRIPTION:Parabola is a quarterly journal devoted to the exploration of the quest for meaning as it is expressed in the world’s myths\, symbols\, and religious traditions\, with particular emphasis on the relationship between this store of wisdom and our modern life. \nEach issue of Parabola is organized around a theme. Examples of themes we have explored in the past include The Quest\, Happiness\, The Wild\, and Presence. \nParabola welcomes original essays and translations. We look for lively\, penetrating material unencumbered by jargon or academic argument. We prefer well-researched\, objective\, and unsentimental pieces that are grounded in one or more religious or cultural tradition; articles that focus on dreams\, visions\, or other very personal experiences are unlikely to be accepted. \nSend your submission to the email or physical address listed below\, along with a brief autobiography (2-3 sentences). Emails should include the article attached as a .doc\, .txt\, or .rtf file. \nPoetry must be submitted as email attachments in the following file formats: \n.doc (MS word)\,\n.txt (standard text file) or\n.rtf (formatted text file). \nSubmissions in other formats will not be considered. \nSubmissions are limited to a maximum of five (5) poems per author.\nThe file must be transmitted under the author’s last name\, with all poems in a single file\, separated by page breaks. Each page must have the author’s name on it. \nSubmissions should be sent by email to poetry@parabola.org

SUMMARY:PFN - Great Lakes Review Seeks Submissions for the Indigenous Issue
DESCRIPTION:Voluntary Fees: This project accepts voluntary fees for “tip jar” submissions.\nSubmit\n\n\nGreat Lakes Review is open for submissions to our Special Indigenous Issue from July 1\, 2022\, through September 1\, 2022. Regular submissions will be open starting September 1\, 2022. \nApproximately 120 bands of Indigenous and First Nations peoples have occupied the Great Lakes basin over the course of recorded history. As the only regional literary journal solely dedicated to the Great Lakes region\, Great Lakes Review is excited to curate an Indigenous special issue. By doing so\, we aspire to bring awareness of the journal to Indigenous and First Nations writers of the Great Lakes and abroad\, in turn allowing us to share their creations with the world. \nAs always\, we welcome fiction\, poetry\, and nonfiction created in and about the Great Lakes region. However\, for this issue\, we’re accepting work by Indigenous and First Nations creators only. These creators can be native to the region\, native to other regions but creating work from within the basin of the Great Lakes\, or native to other regions but creating work informed by the Great Lakes region. \nRegional Connection\nBe certain that either you are or have been a resident of the Great Lakes Region of the United States or Canada or that the manuscript you’re submitting involves the Great Lakes region of either the United States or Canada. Great Lakes Review is a regional journal; therefore\, the regional connection must be apparent. \nJust to be clear\, you can be a current or past resident of the Great Lakes and submit work that doesn’t necessarily have to do with the region\, or you can be from somewhere other than the Great Lakes but submit work in which the Great Lakes is integral to the work. In short\, you cannot be from somewhere other than the Great Lakes and submit work that has nothing to do with the Great Lakes. \nSubmission Statement\nWith your submission\, please include a Submission Statement of three to five sentences explaining either your connection to the Great Lakes or your work’s connection to the Great Lakes. Please include this statement in the Submittable form and in the body of your submission as well\, preferably at the start. \nPlease do not include explicit identifying information (name\, race\, gender\, sexual orientation\, or past publications) in your Submission Statement. We want to judge all submissions on the quality of the writing only. The Submission Statements will dictate whether or not the editors proceed considering your submission\, so please take time to ensure your statement is anonymous and the connection to the region is explicit.

SUMMARY:PFN - Longleaf Review Seeks Submissions for the Wayback Issue
DESCRIPTION:  \n\nWhat do you miss? Who do you long for? What lies buried in the past that you wish you could reclaim? \nWe’re calling this the Wayback Issue\, a space where past and present collide\, a place to rest in restlessness. Give us your take on wayward youth and liminal adolescence. Throw some light time travel our way. Don’t be afraid to get a little speculative\, a little retro\, a little sci-fi. Revise history — new endings most welcome. Tell us about your firsts\, your lasts\, your just-can’t-get-you-out-of-my-heads. \nShow us the dark side of nostalgia\, all its risks and rewards. There’s a danger to romanticizing the past\, and we’re interested in that too — the ways that wistfulness can poison and uplift in equal measure. Tell us: If you lose yourself to the bygone entirely\, can you still find your way back? But also: What don’t you want to go back to? What do you wish could be left behind? \nLay down your burdens\, your unwrittens\, your words waiting patiently with their hands raised high\, willing themselves to be called on. For the next issue of Longleaf\, we’ll read it all. \nGuidelines\nPlease review our guidelines. It’ll make us super happy (and way more likely to publish your brilliant writing). \n\nYou can submit work in one category per submission period. We accept poetry\, fiction (1 piece 500 – 5\,000 words\, or 1 – 3 pieces no more than 500 words each)\, creative nonfiction (1 piece 500 – 5\,000 words\, or 1 – 3 pieces no more than 500 words each)\, and hybrid (image-prose and image-poems). Please include your name\, pronouns\, and any relevant content warnings on the first page of your submission.\nWe prioritize #OwnVoices submissions\, so if your work centers the knowledge or experience of a marginalized group\, please also include an identity statement on the first page so we know your relationship to that group.\nGenerally\, we only accept unpublished work. However\, if you pulled your work because of harassment or bigotry\, we’d like to consider it. Please explain your work’s publication history (to the extent that you’re comfortable) on the first page of your submission.\nWe’ve pledged with VIDA’s #saferLIT campaign. This means we don’t tolerate or accept anti-Semitism\, racism\, sexism\, misogyny\, transphobia\, homophobia\, fatphobia\, Islamophobia\, xenophobia\, or stories that in any way perpetuate negative stereotypes.\nWe accept simultaneous submissions\, but if your submission is published elsewhere\, please let us know by withdrawing it in Submittable. If you need to withdraw one part of your submission but not the whole thing\, send us a message in Submittable.\nWe take one-time nonexclusive electronic rights and archival rights to your work. At this time we don’t provide contracts. By submitting to us\, you’re agreeing to the above terms.

SUMMARY:P - Green Ink Poetry's Deep Earth Collection 2: "Furrows"
DESCRIPTION:Creative Details\nWe are looking for beautiful works exploring Furrows; fields and farming\, working with (or against) the natural environment\, traditional childhoods\, countryside life and imagery around earth and growth are all interpretations of this theme we’d particularly like to see\, and we will be selecting work for inclusion based on how well it relates to these themes. Work centred around other lifecycles\, or features such as “furrowed brows” that use the imagery of a furrow outside of farming will also be considered\, although we would prefer if these works contained some link to the natural world. \nSubmission Details\n\n\nPoems no longer than an A4 page – we prefer shorter work generally\, but no longer than an A4 page is our only length limit. \n\n\nInclude a short bio in your submission\, including any personal social media handles or other links you would like to have listed \n\n\nNo more than 3 poems per submission \n\n\nSubmissions formatted as a word document or PDF attached to an email\, or in the body of the email itself. \n\n\nWork of an overtly sexual nature\, or that promotes any form of hatred\, racism\, or overt political stances will not be considered. \n\n\nSubmit your work by emailing us at editors@greeninkpoetry.co.uk – Please ensure that the email subject line includes “Furrows Submission”. \n\n\nOther Information\nThere is a limit of 30 contributor spaces in the collection\, however we will be offering discounted copies to contributors. Depending on the success of our first print collection of the year\, we will also aim to offer a free copy to any contributors based in the UK. \nWe will be publishing your submissions online\, and in print\, so please do not submit your work unless you are happy for us to use these mediums. This will require non-exclusive\, limited rights to publish your work and hold archival copies – all other rights remain with you\, and you will be fully credited. \nWe will do our best to preserve any formatting you include in your submission in the print edition\, but there may be minor changes due to differences in format between your submission and our working document for the printers – we will take all possible steps to ensure your desired format is preserved. \nIf you need modifications to be made to the digital edition once it is published\, or need the version to be taken down\, please let us know as soon as you are able via email. \nIf you have any questions about our submission requirements\, or any other part of Green Ink Poetry and our digital or print collections\, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
