SUMMARY:PFN - Longleaf Review Seeks Submissions for the Wayback Issue
DESCRIPTION:  \n\nWhat do you miss? Who do you long for? What lies buried in the past that you wish you could reclaim? \nWe’re calling this the Wayback Issue\, a space where past and present collide\, a place to rest in restlessness. Give us your take on wayward youth and liminal adolescence. Throw some light time travel our way. Don’t be afraid to get a little speculative\, a little retro\, a little sci-fi. Revise history — new endings most welcome. Tell us about your firsts\, your lasts\, your just-can’t-get-you-out-of-my-heads. \nShow us the dark side of nostalgia\, all its risks and rewards. There’s a danger to romanticizing the past\, and we’re interested in that too — the ways that wistfulness can poison and uplift in equal measure. Tell us: If you lose yourself to the bygone entirely\, can you still find your way back? But also: What don’t you want to go back to? What do you wish could be left behind? \nLay down your burdens\, your unwrittens\, your words waiting patiently with their hands raised high\, willing themselves to be called on. For the next issue of Longleaf\, we’ll read it all. \nGuidelines\nPlease review our guidelines. It’ll make us super happy (and way more likely to publish your brilliant writing). \n\nYou can submit work in one category per submission period. We accept poetry\, fiction (1 piece 500 – 5\,000 words\, or 1 – 3 pieces no more than 500 words each)\, creative nonfiction (1 piece 500 – 5\,000 words\, or 1 – 3 pieces no more than 500 words each)\, and hybrid (image-prose and image-poems). Please include your name\, pronouns\, and any relevant content warnings on the first page of your submission.\nWe prioritize #OwnVoices submissions\, so if your work centers the knowledge or experience of a marginalized group\, please also include an identity statement on the first page so we know your relationship to that group.\nGenerally\, we only accept unpublished work. However\, if you pulled your work because of harassment or bigotry\, we’d like to consider it. Please explain your work’s publication history (to the extent that you’re comfortable) on the first page of your submission.\nWe’ve pledged with VIDA’s #saferLIT campaign. This means we don’t tolerate or accept anti-Semitism\, racism\, sexism\, misogyny\, transphobia\, homophobia\, fatphobia\, Islamophobia\, xenophobia\, or stories that in any way perpetuate negative stereotypes.\nWe accept simultaneous submissions\, but if your submission is published elsewhere\, please let us know by withdrawing it in Submittable. If you need to withdraw one part of your submission but not the whole thing\, send us a message in Submittable.\nWe take one-time nonexclusive electronic rights and archival rights to your work. At this time we don’t provide contracts. By submitting to us\, you’re agreeing to the above terms.

DESCRIPTION:Creative Details\nWe are looking for beautiful works exploring Furrows; fields and farming\, working with (or against) the natural environment\, traditional childhoods\, countryside life and imagery around earth and growth are all interpretations of this theme we’d particularly like to see\, and we will be selecting work for inclusion based on how well it relates to these themes. Work centred around other lifecycles\, or features such as “furrowed brows” that use the imagery of a furrow outside of farming will also be considered\, although we would prefer if these works contained some link to the natural world. \nSubmission Details\n\n\nPoems no longer than an A4 page – we prefer shorter work generally\, but no longer than an A4 page is our only length limit. \n\n\nInclude a short bio in your submission\, including any personal social media handles or other links you would like to have listed \n\n\nNo more than 3 poems per submission \n\n\nSubmissions formatted as a word document or PDF attached to an email\, or in the body of the email itself. \n\n\nWork of an overtly sexual nature\, or that promotes any form of hatred\, racism\, or overt political stances will not be considered. \n\n\nSubmit your work by emailing us at editors@greeninkpoetry.co.uk – Please ensure that the email subject line includes “Furrows Submission”. \n\n\nOther Information\nThere is a limit of 30 contributor spaces in the collection\, however we will be offering discounted copies to contributors. Depending on the success of our first print collection of the year\, we will also aim to offer a free copy to any contributors based in the UK. \nWe will be publishing your submissions online\, and in print\, so please do not submit your work unless you are happy for us to use these mediums. This will require non-exclusive\, limited rights to publish your work and hold archival copies – all other rights remain with you\, and you will be fully credited. \nWe will do our best to preserve any formatting you include in your submission in the print edition\, but there may be minor changes due to differences in format between your submission and our working document for the printers – we will take all possible steps to ensure your desired format is preserved. \nIf you need modifications to be made to the digital edition once it is published\, or need the version to be taken down\, please let us know as soon as you are able via email. \nIf you have any questions about our submission requirements\, or any other part of Green Ink Poetry and our digital or print collections\, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

SUMMARY:P - Burrow e-journal asks: What does mental health (good or otherwise) look like through the prism of place?
DESCRIPTION:The provocation for the September 2022 issue of Burrow is: ‘What does mental health (good or otherwise) look like through the prism of place?’ \nHow does a sense of place help you with mental wellbeing? How do you value the custodianship of First Nations? Is your sense of place informed/transformed by such commitments as environmentalism\, social justice\, nationalism\, or political/religious idealism? Is your sense of place confined to home or club or family? Do you feel connected or disconnected from society and place? What would enhance your sense of belonging and how might this contribute to your experience of mental wellbeing? \nWe interpret the provocation very loosely. It is really up to you to define or reimagine the theme in a way that is helpful. Be brave and bold\, have a go\, and send us your best. We are inclusive and value our readers and contributors. We can’t wait to read what you come up with. \nTo contribute to Burrow: \n\nin one email\, send up to five poems responding to the provocation as an attachment in MS Word\nif you like to scatter your lines\, please use the space bar rather than tabs as wordpress does not recognise tabs\ninclude a short bio of around 100 words. Bios are written in the third person\nEmail your poems to Rhiannon and Phillip by July 20 at: oldwaterratpublishing@gmail.com\nfor the September issue\, a short contextual essay to your poem is optional and photos are welcome but must be the property of the poet\nFor an example of what we like to read\, travel over to our ‘poetics’ post\, or explore the work in our past and current issues\nBurrow receives over 1000 submissions for each issue\, and all the editors volunteer their time to keep the journal going so\, we do not have time to read submissions that have not followed the guidelines\n\nFor more information about the work we publish and how it should be presented please take a look at our poetics and at the poems and bios of our past and current issues.

SUMMARY:F - Blink-Ink Seeks Submissions With the Theme "Storm"
DESCRIPTION:Submissions are open for Storm \nLong before and long after the tempest of The Tempest\, the typhoon of Conrad’s Typhoon\, Zora Neale Hurston’s hurricane in Their Eyes Were Watching God\, the blizzard of Orhan Pamuk’s Snow and the tornado that blew Dorothy to OZ\, storms have raged through literature. They have been plot points\, settings\, themes\, atmosphere\, metaphors and characters. Send us your best stories of approximately 50 words that feature or reference a storm. \nWhat we love most is writing that has found that preternatural detail of thought or thing that cracks the story open and allows it to matter or to reveal a truth \nWe want your best\, original and unpublished work and will consider up to four stories at any one time. We do reply personally to every submission and every query. We aim to treat you right. \nSometimes we wish to make small changes in a piece we want to publish but will never do that without consulting you— with one exception: If you have offset the final line of a piece for no good reason\, we will put it back in the body of the piece where it belongs. \nSend submissions in the body of an email to blinkinkinfo@gmail.com \nNo poetry\, bios\, or attachments\, please. No Fees. Timely response.

SUMMARY:PFN - Swim Meet Lit Mag Call for Submissions\, Theme "Submerge"
DESCRIPTION:Submissions to Issue 3: SUBMERGE will open on June 10th\nThe theme for Issue 3 is SUBMERGE. Feeling under the weather lately? Diving into a pool of cold\, calm water? Been sinking deeper into the social media algorithm every night? Ten drafts deep into rewriting a poem? SUBMERGE can be interpreted in many ways\, and we’re excited to see how submitters respond to this prompt. Above all\, though\, we’re just looking for great work. If your piece doesn’t respond to the theme\, we will still consider it with equal weight. \nAll submissions will be considered with equal weight\, but we will move Tip Jar submissions to the top of our queue for an even quicker response! \nFree General Submissions – open on June 10th\, 2022 \n$3.00 Tip Jar Submissions: open on June 10th\, 2022 \n$12.00 Feedback Option: open on June 10th\, 2022 (please send only one piece per submission\, regardless of genre) \nPoetry: Up to 3 poems\, up to 50 lines each\, in one document. Please begin each poem on a new page. \nProse submissions: One piece of up to 1500 words. Flash pieces are also welcome! Please include the word count in the submitted document. If you have something longer\, please email us with a pitch (it doesn’t have to be formal – just communicate how long the piece is\, what it’s about\, and why it might be a good fit for us). \nWe don’t have a strict theme\, but our editor is particularly interested in submissions from swimmers (current or former)\, or about swimming – whatever that means to you. Swim meets bring many people together\, and we hope to offer an accessible place for a diverse range of creators to share their work on swim meet lit mag. If your work has nothing to do with swimming\, that doesn’t mean we don’t want to see it! Above all\, we want quality\, even if it doesn’t respond to our themes. \nAs a publication based in Meanjin (Brisbane\, Australia)\, we’d like to offer a space for local creatives\, emerging and established\, to share their work and build a community. However\, we are happy to receive submissions from anywhere in the world.

SUMMARY:PFN - Moss Piglet Zine call for Submissions. Theme: "Mishaps & Misadventures"
DESCRIPTION:The Krazines welcome your submissions of prose (fiction and nonfiction) and poetry for its upcoming issue. \nLife is fraught with mishaps and misadventures\, so we are creating a full-color issue dedicated to work about errors in judgment\, getting lost\, stumbles and falls\, things not going according to plan\, strokes of bad luck\, setbacks and disasters\, accidents\, breakdowns\, bad breaks and blunders. \nDEADLINE: Wednesday\, July 6\, 2022. Send to info@krazines.com. \nSubmissions of Stories\, Essays & Poems\n\nPlease send text submissions in .doc\, .docx or PDF formats to info@krazines.com.  We are more apt to accept short works\, as our publication is digest-size\, but we don’t have a word limit.  Check out some of our past issues to get an idea on the style and length of written work that we have published. \nYou may provide multiple submissions\, but don’t go crazy. Someone has to read all of the stuff that comes across our desk. We’re OK with simultaneous submissions and previously published work. Just cite the place where your writing previously appeared. If you have a fancy title like Poet Laureate\, Writer-In-Residence\, or you have been knighted by the Queen\, we’d be happy to include that information in our publication right next to your name.

SUMMARY:PFN - The Bellevue Literary Review Prizes in Poetry and Prose
DESCRIPTION:The BLR Prizes award outstanding writing related to themes of health\, healing\, illness\, the mind\, and the body. Winners are published in the spring issue of BLR. For each genre\, first prize is $1000 and honorable mention is $250. Goldenberg Prize for Fiction \n\n\nFelice Buckvar Prize for Nonfiction\nJohn & Eileen Allman Prize for Poetry\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFiction: We seek character-driven fiction with original voices and strong settings. We do not publish genre fiction (romance\, sci-fi\, horror). We have only occasionally published flash fiction. While we are always interested in creative explorations in style\, we do lean toward classic short stories.\nNonfiction: We are looking for essays that reach beyond the standard ‘illness narrative’ to develop a topic in an engaging and original manner. Incorporate engaging and creative analysis that allows anecdotes to serve a larger purpose. (Please\, no academic discourses or works with footnotes. )\nPoetry: We encourage poems that are accessible to a wide audience. Characteristics we look for are vivid writing\, strong narrative\, and rendering the familiar new. We encourage you to peruse back issues in our archive to get a sense of our ethos.\n\n\n\n\nGUIDELINES\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe happily consider simultaneous submissions\, but please inform us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.\n\n\nManuscripts can only be accepted electronically via Submittable.\n\n\nFiction/nonfiction word max is 5\,000 words (though most of our published prose is in the range of 2\,000-4\,000 words.) Please submit no more than three poems. Each poem should be on a separate page within a single document.\n\n\nDo not put your name or other identifying information on the manuscript document (or in the filename) so that the submissions can be read blindly. No cover letter needed.\n\n\nStudents/friends/colleagues/relations of a judge are not permitted to enter submissions to that judge’s genre.\n\n\nThere is a $20 fee per contest submission. Contest submission qualifies you for a 50% discount on a BLR subscription. (The fee helps BLR fund the contest and the journal\, but if it’s a hardship for you\, please contact us.)\n\n\nWinners from each genre (poetry\, fiction\, nonfiction) receive $1000. Honorable mentions from each genre receive $250.\n\n\nAll contest submissions are automatically considered for general publication as well.\n\n\nAll submissions must be of previously unpublished work.*  BLR acquires First North American rights\, and the right to reprint in anthologies and online. After publication\, all other rights revert to the author and the work may be reprinted as long as appropriate acknowledgement to BLR is made.

SUMMARY:PFN - THEMA's Call for Submissions. Theme: "The Crumpled Yellow Paper"
DESCRIPTION:ALL SHORT STORIES AND POEMS MUST RELATE TO THE PREMISE “THE CRUMPLED YELLOW PAPER” \nThe premise (target theme) must be an integral part of the plot\, not necessarily the central theme but not merely incidental. Fewer than 20 double-spaced typewritten pages preferred. Indicate premise (target theme) on title page. Be sure to Indicate target theme in cover letter or on first page of manuscript. Include self-addressed\, stamped envelope (SASE) with each submission. Rejected manuscripts unaccompanied by an SASE will not be returned. Response time: 3 months after premise deadline. Note: No handwritten manuscripts will be considered. \nNO READER’S FEE. \nNOTE: Previously published pieces are welcome\, provided that the submission fits the theme and that the author owns the copyright. \nMail to: THEMA\, Box 8747\, Metairie\, LA 70011-8747. \nOutside the US: email thema@cox.net \nOn acceptance for publication\, we will pay the following amount: short story\, $25; short-short piece (up to 1000 words)\, $10; poem. \nCopyright reverts to author after publication. \nUnlike many publishers\, we prefer works submitted by the authors themselves\, without the involvement of an agent. \nNo handwritten manuscripts will be considered. \nNOTE: We do not accept e-mailed submissions EXCEPT from authors who live outside the U.S. \nFor those living outside the U.S.\, submit manuscript as an email attachment (readable by MSWord ― either as a DOC file or an RTF file)\, and include the following information on the title page: target theme\, title of work\, name of author\, email address and physical address. \n\n\n\n\nShort Stories: All types welcome―both traditional and experimental \nSend to: Virginia Howard\, editor\, Box 8747\, Metairie\, LA 70011-8747 \nOutside the US: email to Virginia Howard at thema@cox.net \n\n\n\n\n\nWhat we like: a carefully constructed plot; good character delineation; clever plot twists \nWhat we don’t like: bedroom/bathroom profanity.  Why? \n\nIt’s boring! Writers should be more creative than to depend on the same tired and dubious language crutches to express surprise\, disdain\, shock\, bemusement\, anger\, sadness\, and other emotions.\nSuch profanity\, used in excess\, often serves as a camouflage for a weak plot. If the plot is good\, the story can be told much more effectively in nonscatologic language even though a character in the story may be sleazy.\nStories of lasting quality rarely need it.\n\nPoetry: All types of poetic form welcome. Submit no more than three poems per theme\, please. If more than three poems are submitted\, we will read only the first three poems in the stack. \nSend to: Gail Howard\, poetry editor\, Box 8747\, Metairie\, LA 70011-8747 \nOutside the US: email to Gail Howard at thema@cox.net \nWhat we like: poems that are thoughtfully constructed and carefully distilled. \nWhat we don’t like: sexually explicit wording. Subtlety is more creative.
