SUMMARY:PFN - Swim Meet Lit Mag Call for Submissions\, Theme "Submerge"
DESCRIPTION:Submissions to Issue 3: SUBMERGE will open on June 10th\nThe theme for Issue 3 is SUBMERGE. Feeling under the weather lately? Diving into a pool of cold\, calm water? Been sinking deeper into the social media algorithm every night? Ten drafts deep into rewriting a poem? SUBMERGE can be interpreted in many ways\, and we’re excited to see how submitters respond to this prompt. Above all\, though\, we’re just looking for great work. If your piece doesn’t respond to the theme\, we will still consider it with equal weight. \nAll submissions will be considered with equal weight\, but we will move Tip Jar submissions to the top of our queue for an even quicker response! \nFree General Submissions – open on June 10th\, 2022 \n$3.00 Tip Jar Submissions: open on June 10th\, 2022 \n$12.00 Feedback Option: open on June 10th\, 2022 (please send only one piece per submission\, regardless of genre) \nPoetry: Up to 3 poems\, up to 50 lines each\, in one document. Please begin each poem on a new page. \nProse submissions: One piece of up to 1500 words. Flash pieces are also welcome! Please include the word count in the submitted document. If you have something longer\, please email us with a pitch (it doesn’t have to be formal – just communicate how long the piece is\, what it’s about\, and why it might be a good fit for us). \nWe don’t have a strict theme\, but our editor is particularly interested in submissions from swimmers (current or former)\, or about swimming – whatever that means to you. Swim meets bring many people together\, and we hope to offer an accessible place for a diverse range of creators to share their work on swim meet lit mag. If your work has nothing to do with swimming\, that doesn’t mean we don’t want to see it! Above all\, we want quality\, even if it doesn’t respond to our themes. \nAs a publication based in Meanjin (Brisbane\, Australia)\, we’d like to offer a space for local creatives\, emerging and established\, to share their work and build a community. However\, we are happy to receive submissions from anywhere in the world.

DESCRIPTION:The Krazines welcome your submissions of prose (fiction and nonfiction) and poetry for its upcoming issue. \nLife is fraught with mishaps and misadventures\, so we are creating a full-color issue dedicated to work about errors in judgment\, getting lost\, stumbles and falls\, things not going according to plan\, strokes of bad luck\, setbacks and disasters\, accidents\, breakdowns\, bad breaks and blunders. \nDEADLINE: Wednesday\, July 6\, 2022. Send to info@krazines.com. \nSubmissions of Stories\, Essays & Poems\n\nPlease send text submissions in .doc\, .docx or PDF formats to info@krazines.com.  We are more apt to accept short works\, as our publication is digest-size\, but we don’t have a word limit.  Check out some of our past issues to get an idea on the style and length of written work that we have published. \nYou may provide multiple submissions\, but don’t go crazy. Someone has to read all of the stuff that comes across our desk. We’re OK with simultaneous submissions and previously published work. Just cite the place where your writing previously appeared. SUMMARY:PFN - The Bellevue Literary Review Prizes in Poetry and Prose
DESCRIPTION:The BLR Prizes award outstanding writing related to themes of health\, healing\, illness\, the mind\, and the body. Winners are published in the spring issue of BLR. For each genre\, first prize is $1000 and honorable mention is $250. Goldenberg Prize for Fiction \n\n\nFelice Buckvar Prize for Nonfiction\nJohn & Eileen Allman Prize for Poetry\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFiction: We seek character-driven fiction with original voices and strong settings. We do not publish genre fiction (romance\, sci-fi\, horror). We have only occasionally published flash fiction. While we are always interested in creative explorations in style\, we do lean toward classic short stories.\nNonfiction: We are looking for essays that reach beyond the standard ‘illness narrative’ to develop a topic in an engaging and original manner. Incorporate engaging and creative analysis that allows anecdotes to serve a larger purpose. (Please\, no academic discourses or works with footnotes. )\nPoetry: We encourage poems that are accessible to a wide audience. Characteristics we look for are vivid writing\, strong narrative\, and rendering the familiar new. We encourage you to peruse back issues in our archive to get a sense of our ethos.\n\n\n\n\nGUIDELINES\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe happily consider simultaneous submissions\, but please inform us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.\n\n\nManuscripts can only be accepted electronically via Submittable.\n\n\nFiction/nonfiction word max is 5\,000 words (though most of our published prose is in the range of 2\,000-4\,000 words.) Please submit no more than three poems. Each poem should be on a separate page within a single document.\n\n\nDo not put your name or other identifying information on the manuscript document (or in the filename) so that the submissions can be read blindly. No cover letter needed.\n\n\nStudents/friends/colleagues/relations of a judge are not permitted to enter submissions to that judge’s genre.\n\n\nThere is a $20 fee per contest submission. Contest submission qualifies you for a 50% discount on a BLR subscription. (The fee helps BLR fund the contest and the journal\, but if it’s a hardship for you\, please contact us.)\n\n\nWinners from each genre (poetry\, fiction\, nonfiction) receive $1000. Honorable mentions from each genre receive $250.\n\n\nAll contest submissions are automatically considered for general publication as well.\n\n\nAll submissions must be of previously unpublished work.*  BLR acquires First North American rights\, and the right to reprint in anthologies and online. After publication\, all other rights revert to the author and the work may be reprinted as long as appropriate acknowledgement to BLR is made.

SUMMARY:PFN - THEMA's Call for Submissions. Theme: "The Crumpled Yellow Paper"
DESCRIPTION:ALL SHORT STORIES AND POEMS MUST RELATE TO THE PREMISE “THE CRUMPLED YELLOW PAPER” \nThe premise (target theme) must be an integral part of the plot\, not necessarily the central theme but not merely incidental. Fewer than 20 double-spaced typewritten pages preferred. Indicate premise (target theme) on title page. Be sure to Indicate target theme in cover letter or on first page of manuscript. Include self-addressed\, stamped envelope (SASE) with each submission. Rejected manuscripts unaccompanied by an SASE will not be returned. Response time: 3 months after premise deadline. Note: No handwritten manuscripts will be considered. \nNO READER’S FEE. \nNOTE: Previously published pieces are welcome\, provided that the submission fits the theme and that the author owns the copyright. \nMail to: THEMA\, Box 8747\, Metairie\, LA 70011-8747. \nOutside the US: email thema@cox.net \nOn acceptance for publication\, we will pay the following amount: short story\, $25; short-short piece (up to 1000 words)\, $10; poem. \nCopyright reverts to author after publication. \nUnlike many publishers\, we prefer works submitted by the authors themselves\, without the involvement of an agent. \nNo handwritten manuscripts will be considered. \nNOTE: We do not accept e-mailed submissions EXCEPT from authors who live outside the U.S. \nFor those living outside the U.S.\, submit manuscript as an email attachment (readable by MSWord ― either as a DOC file or an RTF file)\, and include the following information on the title page: target theme\, title of work\, name of author\, email address and physical address. \n\n\n\n\nShort Stories: All types welcome―both traditional and experimental \nSend to: Virginia Howard\, editor\, Box 8747\, Metairie\, LA 70011-8747 \nOutside the US: email to Virginia Howard at thema@cox.net \n\n\n\n\n\nWhat we like: a carefully constructed plot; good character delineation; clever plot twists \nWhat we don’t like: bedroom/bathroom profanity.  Why? \n\nIt’s boring! Writers should be more creative than to depend on the same tired and dubious language crutches to express surprise\, disdain\, shock\, bemusement\, anger\, sadness\, and other emotions.\nSuch profanity\, used in excess\, often serves as a camouflage for a weak plot. If the plot is good\, the story can be told much more effectively in nonscatologic language even though a character in the story may be sleazy.\nStories of lasting quality rarely need it.\n\nPoetry: All types of poetic form welcome. Submit no more than three poems per theme\, please. If more than three poems are submitted\, we will read only the first three poems in the stack. \nSend to: Gail Howard\, poetry editor\, Box 8747\, Metairie\, LA 70011-8747 \nOutside the US: email to Gail Howard at thema@cox.net \nWhat we like: poems that are thoughtfully constructed and carefully distilled. \nWhat we don’t like: sexually explicit wording. Subtlety is more creative.

SUMMARY:PN - Rituals Anthology Seeks Submission on the Theme of Rituals
DESCRIPTION:Rituals are a core part of the human experience. Whether sacred or secular\, they provide a point of connection to the world beyond us\, and even to our deeper selves. When we take a step back and examine our lives\, we find that our existence is weaved together by rituals— whether they involve our morning habit of grinding coffee beans as we prepare breakfast\, or something large-scale such as a cultural or religious holiday. Whatever their purpose\, rituals ground us in a society that’s in constant flux. In this anthology\, writers can explore the underlying significance\, emotional aspects\, and nuances of a particular ritual. \nAnthology edited by Brina Patel \nAll writers are paid in royalties and receive an advance of $15 Canadian prior to publication. Royalties are shared equally among all contributors and are not based on page or word count.  Full payment details provided in a publication contract. If you would like more details on payment before submitting\, please contact Angela at angela [at] bellpressbooks.com. \nThere are no word count guidelines\, but keep in mind that pages are limited and longer pieces may be less likely to have a place because of this. \nOne submission per writer\, though you may submit up to 3 poems if sending poetry (multiple submissions\, even if of a different style\, will be ignored). Previously unpublished work only (no reprints). \nWe strongly encourage submissions from BIPOC and LGBTQ2S+ writers. International submissions welcome.

SUMMARY:PFN - Kaleidoscoped Magazine. Theme "Ghosts & Gossip"
DESCRIPTION:While often perceived as unnecessary\, unkind\, and belittling\, gossip can serve as a bonding agent between others\, a comradery. Gossip is not idle talk but dendrites branching and connecting as substitute for touch during years of isolation. Commiseration alchemized to solace. Gossip is community. To gossip can provide a healing\, one of levity and mirth or of health and intimacy. But gossip is a balm\, not a remedy. Loneliness\, mourning\, and rage haunt in the background of the chatter. Like spectral beings\, they re-emerge when we least expect them to. Loved ones pass. Crisis arises. Memories twist and pull in ways we don’t understand. These ghosts decide to stay whether we like it or not.\n\nGhosts and gossip weave together. Gossip starts as euphoric and sweet entry points for confessions massacring our insides out. Ghosts shake our shoulders for attention. Feed them sacrifices. Gossip gives rise to rumor\, becoming a ghost itself. \nAnd so we declare ghosts as genre\, gossip as genre. Tell us about your hauntings\, your voicemails and saved memos\, your ephemera\, your fortune cookies and your tarot cards. Gives us your secrets and your safe zones. We are particularly interested in experimental and hybrid works across all mediums: send the almost\, the unexplainable\, the confessions\, the collaged. Send us your poems\, your verse\, your translations\, your drawn\, your ballads\, your photographs\, your tea\, and your double scoops with no napkins.

SUMMARY:PFN - Minerva Rising Seeks Submissions: Then\, Now\, and Future
DESCRIPTION:Minerva Rising\, an independent literary press that celebrates the creativity and wisdom in every woman\, will be accepting submissions for its special 10th anniversary anthology. \nThen\, Now\, and Future –– the editorial team is looking to publish both previous and new contributors’ poetry\, fiction\, and creative nonfiction work to help celebrate the themes of growth\, change\, and reflection. As writers\, we constantly catalog and memorialize ourselves and experiences into succinct pieces that act\, at times\, as time capsules. Our writing often begs us to consider who we were a year ago\, five years ago\, ten years ago. As artists\, our writing captures and reflects the changes enacted in our personal lives. There is power in both the act of writing but also in the sharing. Inviting readers to explore our work showcases vulnerability\, strength\, and connection. Often\, we learn who we were or who we can become from rereading previous work. There’s a prompting of reflection that pushes us to ask what’s next? We’re often taught not to look back\, to live in the present\, to not focus on the future\, but what if that curiosity propelled reflection and introspection? What if\, instead of labeling writing as old and new\, we celebrated it like we celebrate our lives with loved ones? What if we collected ourselves\, and the work of others\, into a collection that spoke of hope? \nThe reading period for Then\, Now\, and Future will be open until June 5\, 2020. We look forward to reading your work.

SUMMARY:PN - Kosmos Journal Quarterly Seeks Submissions: "Blessed Community | The Families We Make"
DESCRIPTION:  \nCircle of Friends\, Nancy Earle\nDuring the pandemic\, many found comfort in forming pods\, (small groups of loved ones and friends)\, and in joining online groups and sharing circles that supported co-learning\, activism\, spiritual connection\, or simply provided moral support. Such connections can bind us more strongly than our blood-family relationships. \nIntentional communities are not new. They include ecovillages\, housing cooperatives and spiritual communities such as monasteries. Yet\, these are also evolving to serve the needs of new generations. Transition Towns\, residential land trusts and farming cooperatives have strengthened local economies and cultures of sharing. \nSuch groups\, large and small\, often have a set of values members hold in common\, like confidentiality\, mentorship\, and recognition of historic trauma. Circles may use story\, art and music help members heal and  provide a deep sense of belonging. We are reinventing community from the ground up! \nWhat are the intentional groups\, circles and heart-families you have created or joined? How would you describe the values or guiding principles of the group? In what ways have your groups transformed you? What does the term ‘blessed community’ mean to you? How has ‘coming to circle’ awakened something deep within you or enabled you to serve your community in a new way? \nThese are some of the questions we seek to explore in the Summer edition of Kosmos Quarterly. We welcome your essays up to 1200 words\, poems\, art and other works. Please review our submission guidelines carefully.

SUMMARY:N - Seeking Submissions on: "Cars Against Humanity"
DESCRIPTION:Accepting Submissions\n\n\nWe want the essays in this volume to help readers understand the deadly automotive ecologies that have emerged around the world over the past century.  Because we expect this anthology to provoke as wide as possible a discussion about whether the sacrifices we’ve made for cars are worth it\, we especially welcome: \n\nsubmissions that address the peculiarities of a local transit culture\nsubmissions by people who don’t think of themselves as writers or scholars\nsubmissions from authors outside the global North\n\nAlthough essays may contain a personal element\, contributions should focus on description and exploration of the anti-life ecology created by cars. \nWe’re not looking for: essays on carbon emissions and global warming (this volume will focus on local ecologies)\, personal stories about driver-caused death and injury (unless such stories are situated as part of a broader ecological analysis)\, essays written by cars pretending to be people. \n\n\nTopics might include: \n\nroadkill disposal work\nbody-car encounters\nhow cars change laws\nhighway geographies and urban segregation\ncars and masculinities\nthe impact of cars and roads on multi-species worlds\nautomobile soundscapes vs. avian soundscapes\nasphalt economies\nanimal/human mobilities and disabilities vs. automobilities\nthe ineffable romance of being stuck in traffic\ncars as housing\nanimals living in or destroying cars\n\n…and many others we haven’t thought of. \n\n\nWord count:\n500-4500 words per piece.

SUMMARY:P - Cæsura Seeks Poetry with the Theme: Reset
DESCRIPTION:Cæsura 2022: Reset \nThe Call: Blinded by fractured light through the broken view of a kaleidoscope that has twisted our senses into a cloud of fever dreams; we reach\, strive for a pattern of hope\, a tessellation that integrates all our broken parts into a creation of beauty. Together we replant the seeds. We reset our gaze on the intricate and fertile patterns of empathy and love. \nThe editors will judge from blind lists to create the two unique versions of Cæsura Reset\, the print version and the online version. \nNEW and UNPUBLISHED poets\, every year we recruit\, appreciate\, and publish your work. Please add the comment “Not yet published” to your cover page. \nEveryone may submit up to 3 literary works \nWe reserve first-print publication rights and the right to post work for publication on our website. Previously published work\, in print or online\, will not be considered. \nWe are partial to poems of 32 lines or fewer\, but make exceptions for longer poems that are too good to pass up. \nWe prefer prose of 320 words\, but will consider anything less than 1000. \nLonger works of any style or format will be considered for the print edition but are more likely to appear online.

DESCRIPTION:The Krazines welcome your submissions of prose and poetry for its upcoming issue. \nShow us or tell us about favorite (and least favorite) dishes\, about gardening and farming for food\, about hunting\, home canning and jarring\, about childhood memories\, about eating\, cooking\, or serving food in restaurants or at home. If you have a fancy title like Poet Laureate\, Writer-In-Residence\, or you have been knighted by the Queen\, we’d be happy to include that information in our publication right next to your name.

SUMMARY:PFN - Eternal Haunted Summer Seeks Submissions on: "Other-Than-Human Realms"
DESCRIPTION:Other-Than-Human Realms.  In many cosmologies\, Earth is the middle realm\, the land of mortals. Other realms — above\, below\, sideways and sidewise — are home to other-than-human peoples. Some of these lands are forbidden to mortals\, while some we can visit only in dreams or trance. But wherever and whatever they are\, they are not our home; they belong to Others. Send us poems about Olympus and Hyperborea\, Annwn and Alfheim. Send us short stories about the court of a Fae Queen\, the garden of a peri\, Hy-Brasil and Feather Mountain. Send us essays about the Garden of the Hesperides\, the Land of Manu\, and fiery Muspelheim. [Please note that we are not interested in fictional lands such as Narnia\, Wonderland\, or Oz.] b \nWhat are the Submission Guidelines? We’re looking for hymns to Odin and Inanna and Sekhmet. Prayers to Hermes and Brigid and Asherah. Short stories featuring (or otherwise referencing) Lugh and Yinepu and Hekate. Every poetic form\, from sonnet to rhyming couplet to free form\, is acceptable. There is no set length. Any genre of short story is welcome\, from mystery to fantasy to true lifeish to reimaginings of classic myths\, provided the Deities and heroes are treated respectfully (no bashing someone else’s Gods\, please!). There is no length limit\, but if you are planning to write a novella\, please discuss that with the editors of EHS in advance; any story over 5000 words will likely be serialized across two or more issues. \nPoems or stories that feature Deities from pantheons generally considered to be outside the Pagan umbrella\, but which are still from polytheistic traditions — such as a poem to the Hawaiian Pele or a short story focusing on the Shinto Amaterasu-omikami — are absolutely welcome. The wider the diversity of traditions represented\, the happier the editors are. \nWe are also interested in essays which address the nature of the Deities\, the mythologies of the various pantheons\, folklore\, ritual\, et cetera and et cetera. So\, for example\, we would be keen to read your essay on Hermanubis and how He relates to Hermes and Anubis. Or\, your essay examining primary sources for The Cailleach. Or\, a discussion of the evolution of Veles from (benevolent) God of the Underworld to (Christian) demon and how Polish and Slavic Pagans are resurrecting His worship. \nWhat we do not want: anything about Atlantis\, Mu\, UFOs\, aliens\, or subterranean civilizations. No gore or excessive violence. Sexual content will be judged on a submission by submission basis.
