Based on the Oxford English Dictionary\u2019s definition of &#8220;travel: to make a journey of some length&#8221;, we are looking for creative non-fiction that redefines travel writing. Surprise and amaze us with your work about journeys and voyages through places, spaces and time by\u00a0<strong>23.59 GMT on 13th September 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At Hinterland we are committed to publishing the best in creative non-fiction from around the globe. We are always thrilled to feature work from established, well-known authors but have a particular interest in discovering new voices and in pieces that sit outside the usual categories: we ask only that it be a work of non-fiction.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Submissions should be made via Submittable only (see below).<\/li>\n<li>Before you submit, we strongly recommend purchasing a copy of Hinterland in order to get a feel for the range and style of nonfiction that we publish (<a class=\"link-color sbm-text link accessible-link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hinterlandnonfiction.com\/shop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.hinterlandnonfiction.com\/shop<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>All work should be new,\u00a0<strong>previously unpublished material<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>We accept simultaneous submissions<\/strong>. If your work is accepted elsewhere, kindly let us know.<\/li>\n<li>For our Non-fiction Open Call, we accept work between 1251-5000 words. We also accept extracts from longer works, or works in progress; please ensure the extract works as a stand-alone piece. If you have a short piece of between 500-1250 words, please submit this through our\u00a0<a class=\"link-color sbm-text link accessible-link\" href=\"https:\/\/hinterlandnonfiction.submittable.com\/submit\/132847\/flash-non-fiction-open-call\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flash Non-fiction Call<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Please submit your work in a<strong>\u00a0legible 12pt font<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>double-spaced<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Your work will be considered for all upcoming issues; it might help you to know that we operate a\u00a0<strong>4- to 5-month editorial lead time<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>We typically pay \u00a3100 for a long-form article, or \u00a325 for shorter articles and contributions to our regular features.<\/li>\n<li>We charge a small readers&#8217; fee of \u00a33 for all submissions. Please\u00a0<a class=\"link-color sbm-text link accessible-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hinterlandnonfiction.com\/contact-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">get in touch with us<\/a>\u00a0if this fee presents a hardship for whatever reason. Subscribers can submit their work to us for free.<\/li>\n<li>Please do not submit the same piece to multiple calls.
