No fee is required for submissions to this issue.<\/p>\n<p>The theme for this issue is\u00a0<strong>Return<\/strong>. As in,\u00a0<em>to return to a former place, person, or situation<\/em>. Haven\u2019t we been here before?<\/p>\n<p>By its nature, return evokes a reconstellation of questions: Can we? \u00a0Should we? Have we? We go back, we give back, we turn back, we come \u00a0back&#8211;we return&#8211;but to what?<\/p>\n<p>You may submit up to three poems, or one piece of short prose \u00a0(fiction or nonfiction) of up to 3500 words; you may also submit up to \u00a0three pieces of flash prose totaling no more than 3500 words. Please \u00a0also include a cover letter that briefly explains how you see your work connecting to the theme. Note: work submitted \u00a0without this information may be withdrawn. Acceptable file formats are \u00a0.doc, .docx, .rtf, and .pdf.<\/p>\n<p>Submissions sent via snail mail or submitted through our print \u00a0edition general submissions forms will not be considered for this issue.<\/p>\n<p>Please do not send multiple submissions or previously published \u00a0work. Simultaneous submissions are okay as long as they are identified \u00a0as such in a cover letter. Please withdraw your submission immediately \u00a0upon acceptance elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>Authors whose work is selected for this special feature will receive a \u00a0small honorarium ($25 per poem, $75 per story or essay) and a \u00a0complimentary 2-\u00adyear subscription to Ninth Letter<\/p>\n<p>*<\/p>\n<p><strong>GENERAL SUBMISSION GUIDELINES (PRINT EDITION)\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Ninth Letter\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><strong>is accepting submissions of fiction, poetry, and essays for our print edition from September 1 to February 28 (postmark dates).<\/strong>\u00a0Please note our fee schedule as follows:<\/p>\n<p>September and October: $3.00 per submission<\/p>\n<p>November and December: no submission fee required<\/p>\n<p>January and February: $3.00 per submission<\/p>\n<p><em>Ninth Letter\u00a0<\/em>is published semi-annually in print at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. We are interested in prose and poetry that experiment with form, narrative, and nontraditional subject matter, as well as more traditional literary work. To make life easier for everyone, including yourself, please adhere to the following guidelines when submitting your work to\u00a0<em>Ninth Letter<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p>For poetry, submit 3-6 poems (max. 10 pages) at a time. For fiction and nonfiction, please send only one story or one essay at a time, or up to three pieces of flash prose, up to 8,000 words.<\/p>\n<p>Please do not send a second submission until you have received a response to the first. We do not accept previously published work. Simultaneous submissions are okay as long as they are identified as such in a cover letter. All mailed submissions must include an SASE for reply; we recommend a stamped business-sized envelope. If you wish to have your manuscript returned, you must include adequate postage and a properly sized envelope, and indicate such in your cover letter. We will recycle all unreturned manuscripts.<\/p>\n<p>You should hear from us regarding your submission within 16 weeks; if you haven&#8217;t heard from us in that time you are welcome to query about the status of your manuscript at\u00a0<a class=\"sbm-text link accessible-link\" href=\"mailto:info@ninthletter.com\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">info@ninthletter.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We can only review two submissions per author per reading period; if you have submitted twice before the end of the reading period, please do not submit again unless solicited to do so by an editor.<\/p>\n<p>For material accepted to our print edition,\u00a0<em>Ninth Letter<\/em>\u00a0pays $25 per printed page, with a maximum payment of $150, as well as two complimentary copies of the issue in which the work appears.
