Form Poetry<\/strong><\/p>\n

The next issue’s theme is form poetry. The choice is yours, but\u00a0you must “specify” the form under the title of your poem<\/strong><\/u><\/em>. For instance, if you write a sonnet, tell us it is a Shakespearean Sonnet, Modern Sonnet, etc. (Any sonnet, including “modern,” must have 14 lines.<\/u>) Or if you write a version of the ghazal, name the type of ghazal, such as “modern” ghazal. The same goes for all other form poem categories, including the examples below:<\/p>\n

Blank verse (rather than Free verse)<\/p>\n

Sonnet (no matter the type you choose, it must have 14 lines)<\/p>\n

Epic<\/p>\n

Haiku<\/p>\n

Senru<\/p>\n

Villanelle<\/p>\n

Ghazal<\/p>\n

Quatrain<\/p>\n

Rondel<\/p>\n

Ode<\/p>\n

Ballad<\/p>\n

Writing form poetry is a great way to hone your technique. If you don\u2019t typically practice forms, you may want to draft a few now, well before the next deadline.<\/p>\n

Remember,\u00a0specify the exact form you have chosen for each submission and place it under the poem’s title. If it is a “modern” sonnet, say so, don’t simply name it a sonnet. Make certain all other required information is included in the submission as listed under the GUIDELINES tab (Item #3).<\/i><\/p>\n

HOW TO SUBMIT<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Failure to follow these simple guidelines will result in your submission being discarded or returned to you unread!<\/strong><\/h3>\n

  1. Please resist the urge to include anything with your submission that we do not specifically request<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/u>especially your bio<\/u>\u00a0<\/strong>(we like to read as blindly as possible), credits (we treat the novice and the experienced equally), or explanatory notes (if you believe your poem requires an explanation, please revise it until it doesn’t).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    1. Submit up to THREE poems\u00a0<\/strong>to: \u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      1. Your Subject Line\u00a0<\/strong>should be formatted as follows: \u00a0[Poetry Submission][Title][Name\u00a0Specific Type of Form poem<\/em>]<\/strong>[Poet’s Last Name]<\/li>\n
      2. If you are submitting more than one poem, each should appear in a separate email, and each email should include a separate cover letter.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>If your poem has multiple numbered sections, each section will “count” as ONE poem. \u00a0If your poem contains more than three sections, query first.<\/li>\n
      3. Your poem(s) must appear in the body of your email(s<\/strong>). \u00a0WE DO NOT ACCEPT ATTACHMENTS FOR POETRY.\u00a0\u00a0If your poem needs to be presented in an attachment due to special formatting, query first.<\/li>\n
      4. Include a cover letter in the body of your email(s) with answers to the following questions<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
