The Fabulist Flash,<\/em>\u00a0a new flash-fiction project from\u00a0The Fabulist Words & Art<\/a>, welcomes submissions from November 6-12 for fantastical and speculative writings of up to 1,000 words.<\/p>\n The Fabulist Flash<\/em>\u00a0will debut in 2024, and run in parallel to our current short-fiction programming. Great work will shine through.<\/p>\n \u2022 Zombies, zombie apocalypse, teen vampire\/werewolf romance, cute Cthulhu\/nice baby Elder God, etc.<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0Splatter\/gore\/brutality<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0Virtual-reality visitations with the beloved deceased<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0Mundane fantasies of revenge, sex, financial and business success, etc.<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0\u201cAnother Friday Night at the Elftown Police Station\u201d \u2014 or really anything that takes fantastical archetypes or plot devices and makes them vernacular or silly: drinking hard liquor and shit-talking with a primal entity (Death, Cupid, Santa, Time), for example, or an all-powerful god with an ordinary mortal name and ordinary mortal foibles (\u201cBob, creator of the Universe, woke up one Sunday with a headache\u201d). Maybe you ARE the next Neil Gaiman \u2014 but probably not?<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0\u201cAnd then she\/he\/they woke up\u201d (which includes not just\u00a0it-was-all-a-dream<\/em>\u00a0but also\u00a0we\u2019re-all-living-in-a-giant-simulation<\/em>)<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0Suicide and self-harm (we realize this stuff is real and we write to deal with it, just saying that successfully deploying it as a trope in the fantastical fiction we run is very, very difficult to pull off)<\/p>\n That said \u2026 surprise us.
