Theme: &#8220;Endings&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Submission Guidelines:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Must be under 1,500 words<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Manuscripts should be a Word or PDF document. Please use the title of your story as your document name.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">In your cover letter, please include your name, contact information, a brief third-person bio.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Simultaneous submissions are permitted. Please let us know immediately if your manuscript is accepted elsewhere while under our consideration.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">All rights revert to the author after publication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Prizes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First, second, and third place winners in each category will receive publication, promotion, and the following cash prizes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First place:\u00a0<strong>$500<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Second place:\u00a0<strong>$250<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Third Place:\u00a0<strong>$100<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>The MAYDAY Short Fiction Prize<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Submit a story that responds to or somehow reflects the theme \u201cEndings.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Submissions should be 1,500 words or less and previously unpublished.<\/li>\n<li>Please double-space your manuscript.<\/li>\n<li>Our guest judge will be\u00a0<strong>Alissa Hattman<\/strong>, author of the novel Sift. Her writing has appeared in\u00a0<em>The Rumpus<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Carve<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Gravity of the Thing<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Propeller<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Big Other<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Shirley Magazine<\/em>,\u00a0<em>MAYDAY<\/em>, and elsewhere. She holds an MFA in Fiction from Pacific University and a MA in English Literature from Portland State University. Alissa has worked as a fiction editor, book reviewer, zine librarian, writing group facilitator, and teacher.
