Water is essential for life. We drink it, wash with it, swim in it. Some of our earliest memories involve the taste or smell or sound of it. Water has the power to change landscapes, it can soothe and frighten us, but one thing is for sure, we can\u2019t live without it.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This competition will look for poems that speak to us about what we inherit from water and what that means depends on your own relationship with it. We want to see poems which show what you get from water in all its many forms. Poems that show what water provides and what it takes away. How being near it and in it makes you feel and what it\u2019s like to be without it. Use water to write about something else. Tell us how it is, tell us how it isn\u2019t!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The competition judge is Mark Connors. First prize is \u00a3200, second prize \u00a350.00 and the third prize \u00a325.00. The prizewinning and longlisted poems will all be included in an anthology entitled \u2018What we Inherit from Water\u2019, to be published under the Yaffle\u2019s Nest banner next year and launched on a date and at a venue tbc.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

RULES<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Only poems of 40 lines or less will be considered.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The poems may be in any style.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Work deemed to be offensive will not be considered.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

All entries must be the work of the poet submitting.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Previously published poems are not permitted.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We will not be accepting translations of poetry.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

No changes can be made to poems once they have been submitted.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Any entries in violation to the above will be disqualified.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

No refunds will be given once work has been submitted.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The decision from our judges is final.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

No correspondence regarding entries will be entered into.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

**As the poems are blind judged, to keep anonymity,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

poems which have been workshopped by the judge will be disqualified<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
