Our title is\u00a0Good News\u2026.?\u00a0<\/em>The work \u201cgospel\u201d really means good news. But is what we regard as good news always good news? Even the loveliness of Christmas and the birth of the special baby is tinged with sadness; the beautiful Coventry carol isn\u2019t about the little baby Jesus but about one of the children who was going to be slaughtered because Herod thought a new king had arrived.<\/p>\n

Many of the Jews who survived the Holocaust fled to Israel \u2026 only to be plunged into another conflict that has flared up time and time again. And look what\u2019s happening now.<\/p>\n

Great, World War II ended in 1945. In 1947 the Indian sub-continent was torn apart.<\/p>\n

On 20 April 1889 a woman was delighted to have given birth to a baby boy she named Adolf. Her husband would be pleased. Only he grew up to be abused by a step-father and in turn did his own abusing. Big time.<\/p>\n

Yes, the technology for electric vehicles is improving all the time. Except that many electronic parts come from the Ukraine and most of the lithium for the batteries comes from Afghanistan. And what of the carbon footprint that making them creates?<\/p>\n

It seems we can\u2019t do right for doing wrong.<\/p>\n

There may be a sense of \u201cbe careful what you wish for\u201d.<\/p>\n

Or: is the good news a trace of hope in a bleak time? Perhaps those elements of our lives for which we should be grateful?<\/p>\n

Another thought: good news doesn\u2019t sell newspapers. Therefore there are a lot of good news stories that don\u2019t get told. Can you unearth one?<\/p>\n

Perhaps even what looks like bad news is actually good.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

  • Try to avoid having the word “Good News” in your title but if you must make sure there are other words.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • Texts should be:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Between 1,000 and 5,000 words<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Previously unpublished<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Double-spaced (Please do not put an extra double-space between paragraphs but do indent new paragraphs \u2013 use the Word paragraph settings to set this up)<\/strong><\/p>\n

      In a regular font \u2013 e.g. Times New Roman or Arial, 12 point<\/strong><\/p>\n

      • Your name should not appear anywhere on your text.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n
      • Please use the header and footer function in Word to create headers and footers. Include the title of your story and the anthology in the header and page numbers in the footer.
        \n<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Please adhere to these guidelines even if they sound pernickety \u2013 it really helps us if you submit this way. Although we wouldn\u2019t necessarily reject your story if it was fantastic and you\u2019d done something a little out of kilter, if you\u2019re borderline or your story is very similar to another this could be a deciding factor.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
