Books of cartoons and graphic novels are eligible only if they contain a substantial amount of textual material.<\/li>\n<li>All entries must carry an ISBN.<\/li>\n<li>All entries must have been published in the current year (2021).<\/li>\n<li>The author or authors must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants and living at the time of publication.<\/li>\n<li>The language of the entry must be English. In the case of a translation from another language, the translation must have been published in the current year (2021).<\/li>\n<li>The following are not eligible:<br \/>\n\u2013 Books of which significant or substantial parts have been previously published in book form.<br \/>\n\u2013 Collections of writings compiled by someone other than the original author.<br \/>\n\u2013 Books with more than two authors.<br \/>\n\u2013 Electronic books.<\/li>\n<li>The deadline for submissions is December 31\u00a0of the current year (2021), but earlier submissions are appreciated by the judges.<\/li>\n<li>Submitted books are distributed among the judges and\/or added to collections of works of Canadian humour held for purposes of literary research in the Orillia Public Library and in libraries of the following universities: McGill, Toronto, McMaster and Alberta. They are, therefore, not returnable.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>NOTE:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<strong>All three\u00a0finalists must be available to attend the Gala Award Dinner in September.<\/strong>\u00a0Further details to be announced.<\/p>\n<p>Please see submission instructions below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TIMETABLE:<\/strong><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A\u00a0long list\u00a0<\/strong>of 10 books\u00a0will be released June 1, 2022.<br \/>\n<strong>A short list<\/strong>\u00a0of three books will be released August 15, 2022.<br \/>\n<strong>The winner and runners-up<\/strong>\u00a0will be announced at our Gala Dinner on September 17, 2022.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"submissions\" name=\"submissions\"><\/a>Submission Instructions<\/h2>\n<p>Starting with the award for 2021, we introduced a new way of accepting book submissions.\u00a0 Instead of providing a fillable PDF submission form, we now ask authors and publishers to enter the submission details on-line.<\/p>\n<p>The steps in this process are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enter the details about your book, author and publisher on the online\u00a0<a title=\"Submission_Form\" href=\"https:\/\/leacock.ca\/subform.php\">Submission Form<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>After you click on the Submit button, you will be asked to save and print your personalized submission form with its identifying Submission ID.\u00a0 You should also upload the author&#8217;s bio and photo, and book cover photo if possible.<\/li>\n<li>Print your form and include a copy of it in the package that you mail to the Awards Chair, with eight (8) copies of the book and your submission fee.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>This package must arrive or be postmarked no later than the submission deadline date.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>You will receive an automated acknowledgement email with clickable links that allow\u00a0you to print additional copies of the form after you leave the website, or to upload the author&#8217;s bio and photo, and book cover photo.<\/li>\n<li>Your book will be added to the list of entries on our website when we have received\u00a0<strong>all\u00a0<\/strong>of the following:\n<ul>\n<li>your cheque,<\/li>\n<li>the paper copy of the submission form,<\/li>\n<li>8 copies of the book,<\/li>\n<li>the electronic files for the author bio,\u00a0author photo and book cover photo.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>When entering the data:<\/h3>\n<p>Please fill in as much information as you can, beyond those items marked as essential.\u00a0 This means full addresses.\u00a0 Self-publishers do not need to fill in all the publisher details.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Your package must include:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Printout of the submission form.<\/li>\n<li>The entry fee of $200 payable by cheque or money order to Stephen Leacock Associates.<\/li>\n<li>Eight (8) copies of the book. ** We cannot return entered books. **<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>author&#8217;s bio and photo, and a photo of the book cover<\/strong>\u00a0<u><strong>must<\/strong><\/u>\u00a0<strong>also be uploaded<\/strong>\u00a0using our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/leacock.ca\/upphotobio.php\">Author Bio and Photo Upload Facility<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A comprehensive\u00a0<strong>author&#8217;s bio<\/strong>\u00a0must be provided as a PDF file with the file extension &#8220;<strong>.pdf<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>The two photos must be in high resolution\u00a0(at least 1MB\/300 dpi, but no wider than 2500 pixels) and must be uploaded in\u00a0<strong>jpg<\/strong>\u00a0(jpeg) format.\u00a0 The first is a\u00a0\u00a0<u>portrait style<\/u>\u00a0coloured head shot of the\u00a0<strong>author<\/strong>\u00a0on a\u00a0<strong>plain<\/strong>\u00a0background and the second is a\u00a0<u>portrait style<\/u>\u00a0colour shot of the\u00a0<strong>book cover<\/strong>.
