In Issue 20, we are exploring the themes of sound and melody. We are inspired by Robert Frost:<\/div>\n
\u201cHe would declare and could himself believe
\nThat the birds there in all the garden round
\nFrom having heard the daylong voice of Eve
\nHad added to their own an oversound,
\nHer tone of meaning but without the words.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2014From \u201cNever Again Would Birds\u2019 Song Be the Same\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n

Ideas we would love to see explored include:<\/em><\/p>\n

  • What is the most frightening sound you’ve ever heard?<\/li>\n
  • What is the most glorious sound you’ve ever heard?<\/li>\n
  • How is nature the ultimate musician?<\/li>\n
  • Do you remember the first song that ever struck a chord in your soul?<\/li>\n
  • What do you suppose the last word to ever be spoken by a human will be?<\/li>\n
  • Can a body in motion be a melody, too?<\/li>\n
  • How can silence sometimes be the loudest sound of all?<\/li>\n
  • What sounds soothe your soul? From small arias like the clink of a spoon while stirring coffee, or the roll of a marble over the ground, to grand hymns, like thunder?<\/li>\n
  • Where do you go, or what do you do, to escape the noise of your own consciousness?<\/li>\n
  • How do you find harmony in the chaotic clamor of humanity?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    We accept fiction, nonfiction, and poetry of all flavors, from free verse to found. We are also interested in submissions that include raven artwork.<\/p><\/div>\n

    Submission Guidelines:<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    All texts should use 12-point New Roman font and be double spaced. Poetry may be single spaced. Text file attachments may be submitted in .doc, .docx, or .rtf.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    • Fiction and Nonfiction:<\/strong>\u00a0Entries should not exceed ten pages in length. Limit of 2 entries per submission.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • Poetry:\u00a0<\/strong>Limit of 5 poems per submission.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Do not submit to more than\u00a02 categories\u00a0<\/strong>at the same time.<\/p>\n

        Please include proper MLA citations for all quotations.<\/p>\n

        Please note that we do not accept previously published work or AI generated material, and neither are we interested in profanity, gratuitous violence, or erotic material. However, we do accept material that was published on personal blogs and personal online art portfolios.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
