Baseball is winding down, football is starting up. Basketball players are at camp, and hockey players are on ice. Meanwhile, Uncle Nicky can\u2019t stay away from the track. That’s right, this month, we want stories about sports. About the dreams involved. About the gambling. About the competition. About the broken bones. If it involves sports and it\u2019s noir, we\u2019ll see you at the finish line.<\/p>\n

Stone\u2019s Throw<\/strong> will open for submissions from the first of every month. We\u2019re looking for all the same dark fiction, crime and noir as our usual submissions, but with a target length between 1,000 and 2,000 words, and aligned with the monthly submissions prompt (see below). We\u2019ll read through the best, choose the one story that shines brightest, and publish it online the following month, paying $25 per accepted story<\/em>.<\/p>\n

After a year, we\u2019ll collect all twelve stories into a Stone\u2019s Throw Anthology<\/strong>, to be published alongside our other print issues.<\/p>\n

PLEASE <\/strong>NOTE:<\/strong> Contributors are asked to limit submissions to one written work per open call and we\u2019re only publishing one accepted story per author per calendar year over at Stone\u2019s Throw<\/strong><\/a>, since the year\u2019s stories will be collected in a standalone anthology at the end of the year.<\/p>\n

And from the Department of Things We Never Thought We’d Have to Say Department<\/strong>: Anyone found to be submitting a story that uses AI or language modeling software will have their story instantly rejected; they will be banned for life from submitting to any other RHP open calls; and they will be the object of open public ridicule and scorn.
