We\u2019re looking for your most ambitious, imaginative writing on any touchpoint within this theme, whether it\u2019s the childhood games you played, the songs you can\u2019t leave behind, the seeds you plant in the daylight, or the secrets you whisper in the dark.\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

ALL submissions are accepted through our Submittable portal only<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We only accept previously unpublished work;\u00a0Riddle Fence<\/em>\u00a0contributors may appear in the magazine once per calendar year. At this time, we do not accept work that is written, co-written, or assisted by AI.<\/p>\n

Riddle Fence<\/em> licenses first serial rights (copyright remains with the author) and pays $50 per published page.<\/p>\n

A FEW OTHER GUIDELINES:<\/b><\/p>\n

Make sure your name and the title appear on\u00a0every page<\/i>\u00a0of your submission.
\nRiddle Fence\u00a0<\/i>accepts simultaneous submissions, but you MUST inform us immediately if your work has been accepted elsewhere<\/p>\n

IN YOUR COVER LETTER:<\/b><\/p>\n

Please include the title of your story,\u00a0a word count,<\/b>\u00a0and a brief biographical statement.<\/p>\n

Please only submit one story during each free submission window.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

For fiction:\u00a0<\/strong>We are interested in the stories that best represent your literary voice.\u00a0 We appreciate sharp prose, well constructed stories, and bold writing.<\/p>\n

Please be sure to submit a .doc or .docx file. Submissions should be double-spaced and in 12-point font.\u00a0 Our suggested maximum word count is 3,000 words.<\/p>\n

For creative non-fiction:\u00a0<\/strong>Please submit your work as a .doc or .docx file. All other formats will be rejected. Double-space. Make sure your name, title, and word count appear on\u00a0every page<\/em>\u00a0of your submission.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re seeking work with a taut narrative drive, emotional resonance, and thoughtful explorations that grapple with a theme. The grappling is key. Tension is non-negotiable, as is strong prose.<\/p>\n

Shorter essays are more likely to be published. Our suggested maximum word count is 3,000 words. Occasionally a\u00a0complex and brilliant piece will demand more words but that is extremely rare.<\/p>\n

For poetry<\/strong>: All poems in a single submission should be included in a single document. Poetry submissions may be single-spaced. Please submit no more than 10 pages per submission (3 to 5 poems is best). No more than one poem on a page.<\/p>\n
