The Writing Contest is open to GCWA members and the public, aged 18 and older.
\n\uf0b7 All entries should be mailed to:

\n\uf0b7 Original, unpublished submissions only (see formatting requirements below):
\no Your entry must be original, in English, unpublished, and unproduced, not accepted by any other publisher or producer before April 1, 2022.
\n\uf0b7 Word count:
\no Fiction \/ Nonfiction \/ Children\u2019s Stories \u20141500 words maximum
\no Poetry \u2013 40 lines maximum\uf0b7 Nonfiction includes essay, memoir, and creative nonfiction.
\n\uf0b7\uf0b7 If submitting by mail or in person, submit three (3) copies. Your submission(s) will not be returned.
\no Note: If there are fewer than six (6) entries in a category, the judges may deem a \u201cno contest\u201d situation, in which case entry fees shall be returned in that category. NOTE: If there are fewer than six (6) entries in the Children\u2019s Stories category, those may be combined and judged with the Fiction category, at the judges\u2019 discretion.
\n\uf0b7 All entry fees are due in U.S. Dollars, accompanied by an entry form.
\n\uf0b7 Deadline:
\no Entries postmarked or received electronically after 11:59 pm, January 31, 2022, will not be accepted.
\n\uf0b7 If you submit a portion of a novel, please understand that it will be judged as a complete story.
\n\uf0b7 The decisions of the judges are final.
\n\u25cb Judges will consider: characterization, plot, structure, spelling, grammar, and
\npunctuation. Visit our Website https:\/\/gulfwriters.org\/contest\/ for judging criteria forms.
\n\u25cb Judges reserve the right to NOT select a winner if entries fail to meet quality criteria.
\n\uf0b7 Winner notification: by US mail and email before March 31, 2022.
\n\uf0b7 The winning submissions (top three in each category) will be published on GCWA\u2019s Website (& possibly the Ft Myers Magazine) with author permission.
\no GCWA has only first rights. Copyright and all other rights remain property of author.
\no Winners will be announced at the GCWA meeting in April, 2022.
\n\uf0b7 You may submit as many entries as you like in each of the following categories:
\no Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, Children\u2019s Stories.
\no No gratuitous violence or erotica.
\no While there is no limit on the number of entries you may submit, only one prize
\nawarded per author.
\n\uf0b7 If submitting by mail or in person, entries must be typewritten only (handwritten submissions will be disregarded), 3 copies.
\n\uf0b7 Formatting:

\no Font: Times New Roman, Font size: 12
\no Margins: top\/bottom 1\u201d, left\/right 1\u201d, text unjustified (ragged right margin).
\no Fiction\/ Nonfiction\/Children\u2019s: double spaced, single side on 8 \u00bd x 11 white paper.
\nIndent first line of paragraphs.
\no No illustrations for Children\u2019s Stories.
\no Poetry may be single or double spaced as best befits the work.
\no Judging is done by blind entry method. (DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR NAME ON
\nENTRY SUBMISSION PAGES.)
\no You must include the title of your entry on each page.
\no All pages must be numbered \u2013 bottom center of page.
\no Children\u2019s Stories entries should list intended age level at top of page.
\no If submitting by mail or in person, please staple each of your three copies of each entry in top left corner.

\n\u25cb Entry form should NOT be stapled to entry (Judging by blind entry method)
\no Author\u2019s name (Pen names are allowed. We only need your real name if you are chosen as a winner \u2013 in order to issue prizes.)
