Speckled Trout Review is an independent literary magazine. We like good storytelling in poems metaphorically rich and ripe with imagery, poems in which every word counts, poems that look like poems. Good rhythm is nice, too. However, abstract is not our thing; neither is overt political stuff. Appalachian poets are welcome here, in addition to many other subjects, styles, and work from poets spanning the globe.<\/p>\n

Call for submissions: Fall 2021 (3.2) Childhood memories (print issue)Submission window opens September 1, closing November 1.<\/p>\n

We often have a penchant to wax nostalgic about our childhood memories or a desire to idealize them. However, the reality is more measured. We know that we may carry these formative recollections, visceral and vivid, with us throughout our lives, even as we perceive them to be warm and nourishing or perhaps frightening. We want poems that leave the front porch and go beyond the trees.<\/p>\n

Editors of\u00a0Speckled Trout Review<\/em>\u00a0welcome submissions of unpublished poetry (nothing previously published in an electronic publication of any kind or in print) for its Fall 2021 (3.2) print issue.\u00a0Poets can paste up to 4 poems, followed by a 50-word writer\u2019s biography and mailing address, in the body of an e-mail to\u00a0speckledtroutreview@hotmail.com<\/a>. Please note: attachments will go unread.<\/strong>\u00a0Poems with overt political messages are not for\u00a0Speckled Trout Review<\/em>. Simultaneous submissions are fine, but please share the good news when a poem finds a home elsewhere. For any questions about submissions or\u00a0Speckled Trout Review<\/em>, reach out to us at the above e-mail address. Poets whose work is selected for Fall 2021 (3.2) will receive a complimentary copy of the issue.<\/p>\n

For contributors whose work appears in either a fall or spring issue, we ask poets acknowledge\u00a0Speckled Trout<\/em>\u00a0Review<\/em>\u00a0as the original publisher of the poem(s) in any subsequent publication thereafter.
