The ones passed down. The ones that keep you up at night. The ones you\u2019re still trying to understand.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re interested in the fractures and the fight, the moments of stillness, the ridiculous. What does it mean to carry culture, to carry knowledge in a world that wants us to forget? What does survival feel like today \u2014 and what does joy look like in the cracks?<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re not looking for permission, politeness or performance. We want truth. Weirdness. Rage. Love. The absurdity of life in the colony.<\/p>\n<p>Connect us to Country. To memory. To each other. Make us laugh, make us ache, make us pause.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What can I submit?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>We accept up to 2 x submissions per writer for everything except poetry.<\/p>\n<p>For poetry, we accept up to 3 x stand-alone poem submissions per writer, or submission of 1 x poetry collection.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Full pieces (finished work):<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Poetry \u00a0<\/strong><a class=\"link-color sbm-text link accessible-link\" href=\"https:\/\/writerssa.submittable.com\/projects\/edit\/158469d1-b852-4f33-87c0-b1f911f09d6a?tab=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Poems and poetry collections that crack things open with beauty and insight.<\/p>\n<p><em>Publication payment of<\/em>\u00a0<em>$250 per stand-alone poem or $450 per poetry collection.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fiction<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Up to 8,000 words long and any genre \u00a0\u2013 just make it strong and moving.<\/p>\n<p><em>Publication payment of $900.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Memoir<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A personal story that teaches us something deeper.<\/p>\n<p><em>Publication payment of $600.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Experimental work<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Surprise us \u2013 break the mould.<\/p>\n<p><em>Publication payment based on the nature of the work, but in line with the rates shown here. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>When do I need to submit?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Submissions close at\u00a0<strong>11:59pm\u00a0<\/strong>(Australian Central Standard Time) on\u00a0<strong>August 3<\/strong>. The best place to track the progress of your submission is here on Submittable.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Good to Know<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>\u00b7 Work must be original (your own work), no AI use.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Work should not be previously published, including online.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 You keep copyright.
