Statement<\/em>‘s mission is to inspire its readers to diversify and deepen their relationships through literature and art.<\/p>\n

General Call for Submissions:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Home is where we want to belong and feel safe. Home is how we find comfort and respite whenever we feel lost. What is home to you? Is it a place, a person, a feeling, a flavor, a scent, a song? Each of us encompasses a unique definition. Whether it\u2019s the refuge of a childhood room, an emotional attachment to a physical item, or a memory; home is anything we cherish in our hearts.<\/p>\n

Statement<\/em>\u00a0is proud to present its 76th year as a home of inspiration for new and accomplished artists from around the world. Share your best work and vision of \u201cHome\u201d with us!<\/p>\n

Statement\u00a0<\/em>welcomes poetry, short stories, essays, translation, or something entirely your own.<\/p>\n

Statement’s\u00a0<\/em>2025-26 issue\u00a0<\/em>will address theme of “Home”. We welcome literary and visual art including, but not limited to, fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, translation, and visual art. Submit your best work!<\/p>\n

How to Submit Work to\u00a0<\/strong>Statement<\/strong><\/em>:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Please include the type of submission in the title (ex: Poetry Submission).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

What Can You Submit?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Written submissions should be a maximum of 1500 words and may be full pieces or excerpts of longer works that can stand alone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 There is a limit of four (4) total submissions per individual. Submitters are not limited to working in only one medium and\/or genre.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 We ask that\u00a0no previously published or simultaneous submissions be submitted<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

What You Should Include for Literary Submissions:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

All persons wishing to submit work are welcomed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cover Sheet\u00a0<\/em>(required):<\/em>\u00a0A single .doc or .docx file with your name, CIN number (for current Cal State LA students), email address, the title(s) of your submission(s), and a short biography (max. of 75 words). This is the only place where your name should appear.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Prepare Your Submission:<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 File name must be formatted with the\u00a0Title of Work<\/em>. (ex. TheLoveStory.doc)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Written work must be in .doc or .docx format.\u00a0Include a .pdf file of the work as well.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Only the title of the piece and a word count should be included on the first page.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Each writing submission must be submitted in a separate file.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0We are employing a blind submission process; DO NOT INCLUDE any headers or footers with information that identifies you such as your name, identification number, or your email address inside the submission file.<\/strong>\u00a0(ex. Smith1, or jsmith@gmail)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
