Actually, mostly people aren\u2019t: cats, sharks, trees, rocks, and everyone in between each hold histories and vital relationships that are too often sidelined in favor of anthropocentric narratives. For this call, I want to see stories in which the idea(l) of human individualism is narratively and poetically challenged. Stretch and break the bounds of who is typically afforded a voice; who matters; who counts as an ally in the struggle for collective liberation; and who determines what it means to be a person at all. In addition to more conventionally multispecies\/nonhuman narratives, I\u2019m particularly interested in works by\/featuring <a href=\"https:\/\/alterhuman.miraheze.org\/wiki\/Alterhuman\"><strong>alterhuman<\/strong><\/a> characters and themes, and am looking for the complex, imaginative, thoughtful over the polemic\/educational.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Regular fwp length guidelines apply (up to 1500 words\/no more than 3 pages of poetry\/hybrid pieces).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Please submit via Duosuma; unless we have made prior arrangements with you, email submissions will not be considered. Please allow 2-4 weeks for your submission to be processed. Submissions that are not formatted correctly or contain any racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise intolerant content will not be considered. (Work that is based on lived experiences involving these topics is ok provided it does not glorify that kind of behavior.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Content warnings: <\/strong>We reserve the right to apply content warnings for sensitive topics to your work when published. Please also include them in your cover letter when submitting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Please only send submissions via Duosuma unless you have been specifically given instructions to do otherwise. If you have accessibility concerns, please reach out and we\u2019ll make every effort to accommodate your submission.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">For written work, we offer a handful of optional add-ons related to feedback and expedited response times. Due to the volume of submissions we receive, we are unable to provide feedback on submissions unless it has been selected and paid for at the time of submission.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">We always accept reprints if you have the rights to give them, including work published on personal blogs, websites, and social media. Also, in the case of web portfolios, Patreon &amp; similar services, and social media, we don\u2019t require that you inform us they were previously published, since we don\u2019t consider that \u201cpublished\u201d ourselves.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Anthology and blog submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis during open periods, with average response time between 4-6 weeks. Group photozine submissions and <em>GARLAND<\/em> submissions will be reviewed at the end of the submission period, with average response time within 4 weeks. Manuscripts will be reviewed at the end of the submission period, with average response time within 2 months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Submissions that are not formatted correctly or contain any racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise bigoted content will not be considered. We don\u2019t tolerate right-wing bullshit, or anything resembling it. Writing or artwork that is based on lived experiences from a marginalized perspective is okay provided it does not glorify bigoted behavior.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>We do not accept work that has been created or assisted by Artificial Intelligence (AI).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Repeated violations of submission guidelines will result in a permanent ban from submitting.<\/strong> Boundaries are important.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">We pay contributors in the form of either profit-sharing (for published editions) or contributor stipends (for anthologies, zines, and blog pitches). Blog features offer free submissions but are unpaid.
