Ideal submissions are well-crafted, fresh and edgy. We are committed to enriching and continuing the tradition of poetry in the present day. We welcome submissions that deepen our understanding of what poetry is and can be. We are open to most styles, whether experimental or traditional \u2013 though issues are usually put together with an underlying theme in mind, so not all poetry can be accepted, even if it is genius!<\/p>\n<p>Vallum&#8217;s Chapbook Series has published work from Bhanu Kapil, Sina Queyras, Nicole Brossard, George Elliott Clarke, Er\u00edn Moure, Franz Wright, Fanny Howe, John Kinsella, and many more. Past winners of the Vallum Chapbook Award have won the bpNichol Chapbook Prize, been nominated for the Nelson Ball Prize for poetry of observation, and the Griffin Poetry Prize!<\/p>\n<p><strong>ENTRY FEE:\u00a0<\/strong>$25 for Canadian entrants, $30 for US and international entrants, and\u00a0<strong>includes a free one-year print subscription to\u00a0<\/strong><em><strong>Vallum<\/strong><\/em><strong>\u00a0magazine<\/strong>. Payment can be made through Submittable or by cheque (payable to &#8220;Vallum&#8221;). You may unsubscribe at any time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONTEST RULES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The entry fee covers one chapbook submission of 12-30 pages. Do not label your chapbook with your name or address; instead include a cover letter with all pertinent information.<\/li>\n<li>Chapbooks may be on any theme or subject, but must be original and not previously published (individual poems appearing in the manuscript that have been published elsewhere are fine).<\/li>\n<li>The winning chapbook will receive publication as part of the Vallum Chapbook Series and a $300 prize, plus promotion via social media and website. Selections from the chapbook will also be published in our print and digital magazine.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Vallum (VSEAL) strongly encourages submissions from LGBTQIA+, Indigenous writers, writers of colour, gender non-conforming writers, differently abled writers or persons with mental or physical challenges, and all who are otherwise affected by structural inequality.
